Nothing wrong with that bowl that a good flush wouldn't cure.

Some decent suggestions for improvement there
but it’s still lipstick on a pig.
The only time we ever watched it were the Super Bowl years when we weren’t quite ready for the season to end and just wanted to see more highlights of the victory and hear more talk about how great our team was. The games themselves were always unmemorable.
The skills competitions might be an interesting twist, or even some type of flag football tourney, but we’re not even having our group over this Sunday and the game won’t even be on in the background. There’s absolutely zero interest from our die-hard football crowd.
Keep the faith!
There's football this weekend? I thought it was just the Pro Bowl....

Roger Goodell already declared the switch a success
Sombody call the Puh-leeze department:
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says switching the Pro Bowl to the week before the Super Bowl is already a success because the game is drawing more attention than ever.
Success sure shouldn’t mean what he thinks it means.
Keep the faith!
It's like when your kid acts up to get attention.
In his mind, he successfully got your attention. In your mind, you’ve got a broken lamp.
Different viewpoint.

I have to agree with Goodell on this one. Being a fan for many years, not once have I ever seen the Pro Bowl. After the season and Super Bowl were over, I had no interest in this game before. I’m planning to watch this one, even if it’ll be played by the 4th stringers just because the season isn’t over until the Super Bowl is played. I’ve watched the MLB, NHL all star games just about every year since the 60’s, why not this one? I don’t expect the guys to try to kill each other but it would be nice to see some talented guys from some teams to play with talented guys from other teams. Halftime might be almost as entertaining as the Super Bowl even if the Who aren’t playing in this one.

I can never forgive the Pro Bowl...
… for what it did to Robert Edwards

The Rookie Beach Bowl
A stupid idea that fell in the “It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt” department, and was discontinued after that year.
Robert Edwards was a stud first-round draft pick by the Patriots in 1998. He rushed for 1,115 yards and made Pro Bowl. I remember being excited at how good he looked playing his first year, and how unbelievably lousy it was watching the game when he blew out his knee. The damage was so bad, he almost had to have his leg amputated.
Keep the faith!
Imagine if it never happened.
How different things might have gone, though, had he not been injured? Instead of Terry Allen toting the ball for Pete Carroll, it would have been Edwards. What impact would that have had? We could have missed out on Belichick entirely, because Edwards could have bought Carroll a couple more years.
+1
I just recall hearing about this around when it was happening, and marvelled at the stupidity of the concept of a game between NFL players on sand. Yeah, no one’s gonna risk a serious joint injury when running/getting hit in the sand.

Edwards did come back- so to speak!
I was living in Quebec when Edwards came to play for the Montreal Alouettes in 2005. In his first two seasons in the CFL, he rushed for over 1000 yards and was selected to the All Star team. Too bad he never went back to the NFL.
