Quick Recap: Texans defeat Patriots, 34-27
In yet another fourth quarter FAIL, our New England Patriots blow a 21 point lead in the final quarter to give the Texans a potential shot at a wild card berth. A Bernard Pollard interception of a Tom Brady pass gave Houston the final score they needed to ice the game. In what looked like a great drive by backup Brian Hoyer, an excellent pass putting the Patriots on the Texans' 13. A Stephen Neal hold brought the ball back.
But the story of the day is Wes Welker's knee injury. Now, before people start piling on Belichick about playing starters, an injury like that could happen to anyone at anytime. Hindsight's 20/20; it would've been impossible to predict that injury. It's my guess Felger and all the other morons at 98.5 will be hammering NE for not sitting starters.
Houston's defense stepped up when needed and got the job done. Matt Schaub did a good job of finding the weak spots in our secondary and collecting 21 unanswered points in the final quarter. Props to the Texans.
Now it's time to think about the post season. It appears we've picked up the 4th seed meaning we'll host the 5th seed in Foxboro, MA. Here we go.

why is it taking so long to get a word about wes

wes is probably done for the year...
that didnt look good at all…
Whats the best case senario injury for welkers knee?
a sprained mcl acl?
dislocated kneecap?
whats an injury that looks severe but is only 1 or 2 weeks?
Even with a sprain...
…you’re looking at 4 weeks recovery, regardless of toughness. He can’t make the cuts he needs to make with even a mild strain…and that did NOT look mild.
so whats the best news that could come out
??
i guess its either no injury or hes done..
they do MRI's on monday...we'l know then i guess

4th Quarter play calling was atrocious.....again.
Even after a decent couple of weeks, O’Brien has reverted to his pass-happy, run-hating 4th quarter ways…with expected results.
the last drive with brady with brady was horrible
the calling was good on the td drive with taylor, but iunno why they were throwing it long in the last drive. To Aiken out of all people, i mean where was moss in the 4th quarter?
not to mention
hoyer was doing well passing. so why go away from what’s working? the running game was good early on, but houston picked it up in the 4th quarter.
iunoo wat to say abotu this game
pats seemed 50% ready to win 50% just playing safe. like switching back and forth. i mean with the lead in the 4th the pats play their 4th rb. And i don;t even think moss was playing in the 4th. half the defense was playing and for some reason whilite was covering johnson at the end. it’s annoying to lose but the big picture wise the game didn’t exactly mean much.
I say most pats fans are more concerned with welker’s knee than losing a game that doesn’t really matter.
But you've gotta make up your mind...
…if you’re not playing to win, DON’T play your starters. If you are, don’t take them out. I was very confused with the coaching decisions re: resting starters. Take Tom out, put him back in, take him back out…made little sense to me. It didn’t seem well thought out, which isn’t characteristic of BB.
yea that was was wweird
but i kinda see a point, of not just having brady sit for half the game, and letting him get some action. But the timing was just bad.
only makes sense from a 'scenario reps' viewpoint
I can rationalize them wanting to get practice doing specific things with the first team. If they felt they didn’t get the coverage earlier in the game on those things, then they decided to send them back in to work on them.
i thought the first time brady went back in was more of having him work with the other recievers more
well, that qualifies
as ‘things the first team needed to still work on’.
And there is no way they would send Brady out there without the rest of the starters as well. So if TB needed work, everybody else gets to go back out with him.

i hate them so much… the announcer were all over rothlisbergers shlong that he was playing with a supposed shoulder injury….
Don't hate them because the announcers are morons.
If we judged teams by the announcers that called their games, what would we think of the Pats?
Does anyone else think Daryl Johnston sounds like he’s calling a WWF (or WWE..whatever it is now) match?

My bad.
It was actually Kevin Harlan, not DJ. Regardless, it was awful.
And Solomon WiIlcotts was on color. He still thinks it’s 2007.

i just hate them in general…

Well pats fans if welker lost for the playoffs is no biggie this team is no super contending team anyways and this is comming from a patriots fan are defense sucks we can’t even stop a fourth and fifty play and chung and butler look to be bust in the nfl anyways jonathan whilhite is probably the worst defensive player in the nfl right now, don’t understand why bill belichick substituted this bumb for springs in the first place they just went after him in the second half and scored how many three touchdowns no pass rush and brady i said it long ago he should of been bench atleast a game or so for his interceptions in the regular season, brian hoyer played like a true champ brady could learn something from him .
yes and no
springs and bodden for the play offs is a given. Butler is a good back up but no whilite. brady’s int was bad but once again it’s the play calling sending everyone long for sum reason. Also the fact that the pats gave up 100 yrd to a no name rb was a huge problem, but that has alot to do with no warren or wilfork, sinvce for the year they did decent jobs stopping top rb’s like mjd and etc.
also brady's int was more on the fact he got hit
most of the time his’ nt coems from a o-line break down
I hope this is a joke.
Because all I’m reading are ridiculous over-exaggerations and completely baseless, “fair weather fan” accusations.
it's the sky is falling mentality when ever the pats lose
i think people who just look at the 07 season expect the pats to never lose, forgetting the years prior when they weren’t exactly destroying every single team.

Very exciting game, guys
Shame about the Welker injury – he’s a thrill to watch. Good luck the rest of the way. Personally I don’t think it was a wise idea to play Brady so much, but it made it sweeter when we won.
In any event, it was a hell of a game. Hopefully we’ll meet again in the playoffs.

Thanks!
I’m mystified by the 4th quarter collapse or maybe I shouldn’t be; Pats have been doing it all year. Welker out is a bummer; looked bad from my vantage point.

if the ravens beat the raiders which is probably going to happen....
its PATRIOTS vs RAVENS…..
i think the ravens offense is not that hard to shut down and the pats arent going to have much trouble against them..
stop ray rice...force flacco to throw
they don’t have a true number 1 wide, springs and bodden can shut them down i believe. On the offensive side we need to stop them from pressuring brady too much. Their secondary aside from ed reed doesn’t match too well to the pats receivers.
na we should win ...but no welker :(

we should win against the ravens at home if we play them , i feel more comfortable with springs and bodden but if whilhite gets the node where done for this guy sux but still i think the ravens would win this game i don’t think the patriots defense is capable of stopping tim tebow and the florida offense maybe a good high school offense at best .
is wilhite THAT bad???
and what about butler??
i thought these guys were the future of patriots great cornerbacks…
what happened to them that they SUCK so badly..
good lord, half the defense wasn;t playing
no warren or wilfork so they ran all day on the pats. the opening the pass game. and having whilite on Johnson didn;t help. Plus bodden didn;t play. our defense is not as bad as they seem.
we had wilfork and warren and bodden against the saints and colts and dolphins and jets yeah thats kind of bad we lost those games what game you where seeing i don’t know but against the saints it was a patriots fan nightmare once again the defense couldn’t stop no one
are you serious?
jets game..the pats score only 9 points that was all on the offense.
Colts game was the small mistakes like endzone fumble AND TBC and warren going down.
Dolphins game, once again on brady, end zone pick, that other wise would have put the game away.
The saints game was all on defense but loses to the Broncos (we could have scored more than liek what? 17?, no second half offense), Jets, Dolphins AND colts were not all on the defense but also blamed on offense and it’s mistakes.
and what do they say defense wins games how many fouth quarter games have we lost because of the defense how many third and twelve and third and fifteens we keep giving up, a good defense doesn’t do that
right cuz all our problems is on defense
seriously did u just ignore my post on how it isn’t all trh defense’s fault? Brady has had trouble finishing a game all season. Why don’t you just ship now cuz you sure seem like your ready. forget the play offs. I mean the cardinals last year a had a great defense when we trounced them 49-7. No way they made the superbowl…oh rite..
AFC WILD CARD SPOTS right now
Jets are in if they win against the Bengals
Ravens are in if they win against the Raiders
Texans can get in if 2 of these teams lose: Broncos, Ravens or the Jets.
Broncos can get in if they win and a Jets lose to the Bengals tonight @ 8pm
Steelers can get in (since they won today) if Jets, Ravens and the Broncos…they are the long shot in the wildcard.

wow the cardinals had one bad game against the pats right well i would take their defense anytime over the pats and remember their in the nfc not as tough as the afc buddy and you think brady is suppose to win every game by himself what is he super man he doesn’t play defense he can do so much the rest falls on the defense and those games
afc is better then nfc?
thats why the afc will have 2 9 and 7 teams get in along with a 10-6 and another 10-6 while all the teams in the playoffs for he NFC are 11-5 or better
Are you friggin kidding me?
The cardinals had one of the worst defense that year. it was like middle of the field in pass and last in rushing def. They were lucky to be 9-7 and make the play offs. But you know why they got to the superbowl? They stepped up in the playoffs, which the pats can do too. GOD you act as if brady can do no wrong, but he has had trouble this year. It’s not all on the defense when your offense has trouble to CLOSE OUT a game. The fact the offense make tons of mistakes in the red zone and the end of the game, put the pressure on the defense to stop a team ona short field or a small lead. If you really think like that then jump off the band wagon NOW.
The Cardinals defence are old, wily vets
and the Pats defence is very young and inexperienced. The Cards D might be good at the moment, but they’ll only be around for another 2 years or so. The Pats D will have a solid core for another half a decade or more.

hey chief your the one in lala land brother i’m being a realistic pats fan the secondary is bad thats it i don’t know what games your watching check your tivo and see the games yourself why you think belichick ran a fourth and one in the colts game because he knew if peyton got the ball the defense would not be able to stop him the same with the saints plus we lost to the jets by a rookie qb who drop a bomb on who other than jonathan whilhite i’m not saying brady perfect but damn those interception came after we lost big leads in the fourth and brady with little time trying to bring us
The secondary is suspect
But we’re not playing whilite in the play offs hopefully and are using springs and bodden last for the last 3 weeks, (when we won) Spring’’s better than whilite and is a veteran and is smarter than butler. Bodden didn’t play today, and he’s our best corner. The pats had trouble yes but if you stupid enough to believe a team can;t step up in the play offs then stop watching football. See the cardinals and giants from te last two years. No one gave them a chance but the fact their teams stepped up in the post season allowed them to win. And what do you mean big leads? jets we had a 6 point lead, Miami we had a 2 point lead, and broncos we had a 7 point lead. right those are hugeeee leads. Have you seen the pats in the 2nd half? in all threw games the offense scored 0 vs jets, 7 vs maimi and 0 vs the broncos in the second half. I say we’re having more trouble in the second half offense. And in indi we had a key turnover in the redzone by maroney.
The secondary is young, not bad.
For most of the season, the most experienced guy on the field was Meriweather, and he was a rookie only a couple of years ago. The Pats defence has traditionally worked best when it was full of experienced vets (think Ty Law and Rodney Harrison) because it’s complicated; these guys have only had a few seasons at most to absorb it. Even given that inexperience, they’ve performed well. They’re top-5 on scoring defences, they’re pretty good on surrendered yardage, too. Statistically, they’re just not that bad. You’re claiming the sky is falling because a couple of rookie players played… like rookies? Uh…
Token southern hemisphere guy - 14,688km from Foxboro. That's 9128 miles, for you heathens.
ok we agree on one thing jonathan whihite should not play in the playoffs ok thats great but your saying that i’m saying that any givin sunday a team can’t just come out and play a great game and beat a dominant team no i didn’t say that i said thats not this team the patriots can do that especially if welker is lost for the rest of the playoffs remember in the nfc theirs not one true dominant team, in the afc you have the colts the steelers and the patriots chargers who are expected every year to be in the afc championship have you seen anyother team going to the super bowl decide these three i should say although the chargers always get close but anyways what i’m saying is the offense is not perfect everyone in patriots land knows that but i have to put more of the blamit’s on the defense especially without no pass rush to hurry up the opposing teams qp it seems where giving teams to much time time to pass which is are greatest weakness and those leads in those games you posted rather big or small the defense has to rise up and shut down the opposing offense
To be fair
the main problem this season seems to have been a complete lack of adjustment by the offence in the second half. The opposition defence adjusts to whatever the Pats have been doing in the first, and shuts the Pats down. Bill O’Brien, Brady, etc just haven’t been able to counter the half-time adjustments of the opposition, and find themselves unable to move the ball and eat up game-clock. No matter how good the defence is playing, they’ll give up points if they’re on the field for 80% of the second half and always have poor field position to work with.
