LB Thomas Williams added to active roster
While placing Wes Welker on Injured Reserve, the Patriots have made a few moves, including adding the 6'1" 237 lb Linebacker Thomas Williams to the 53 man squad. According to Patriots.com, they have also added two WRs to the practice squad, Robert Ortiz and Nick Moore.
Drafted in the 5th round of the 2008 draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars, Thomas Williams played in 6 games, recording only one tackle. I'd assume he figures to be a special teams player alongside Sam Aiken and Kyle Arrington, but may seem some time if we build a lead. I thought we would have brought another WR on to the active squad, so I was a little surprised by this move.

It takes longer to learn the offense than special teams

About adding a WR
This might (and I suggest, does) signal that Aiken and/or Matthew Slater are about to get far more offensive and a lot fewer special teams reps. Either one would need a special teams replacement, so they sign the new guy.
