Patriots Announce Branch Trade, Place Kaczur on IR
Today, the Patriots made the Deion Branch trade official, announcing that the team had acquired the player that could easily be considered a "playoff hero" for the Patriots. Branch will wear #84.
However, in conjunction with the Branch acquisition, the team announced that they have place tackle/guard Nick Kaczur on injured reserve. As you have probably heard by now, Kaczur has been suffering from a neck ailment all season, undergoing surgery in August. The team left the door open with Kaczur, but have finally decided to let him get healthy for 2011.
With Dan Connolly playing exceptionally well, there isn't really much of a need for Kaczur at this point. Recent reports have also suggested that holdout guard Logan Mankins could report for the final six games of the season. While the team might not accept Mankins back with open arms, his potential presence (along with Connolly's performance and the recent re-signing of Quinn Ojinaka) makes it unnecessary for the team to hold a roster spot for Kaczur.
My feeling is that Kaczur will become a very valuable role player for the Patriots for next year. For now, however, it seems as though the team is doing just fine without him.

I'm not so sure there wasn't a need for Kaczur this year...
inasmuch as he was likely to be swing-tackle backup. He played his first NFL season as a backup to Matt Light and actually started games at LT when Light was on IR; it was only later that he became a starting RT. Even later than that, he slipped into the starting LG role that Mankins vacated, but I still think his main value would’ve been at T.
The reason I think this is that while he might not have been quite starter-quality with Light and Vollmer on the roster, he’d have been a very, very good backup at both LT and RT positions. Now they either have to find a legit backup to both, or find a swing tackle to play both. Anyone want to really say that Mark LeVoir is one, given most of his snaps have actually been at TE?

Two party or bicameral?
Neither. We stole adopted a German-style proportional representative system for central government. There’s one house – the House of Representatives (commonly but slightly erroneously called Parliament) of 120 seats. At a national election, parties have to get 5% of the vote as a threshold, and if they do, they get a proportionate percentage of the seats in the House.
There’s a main centre-left party – Labour – and a main centre-right party – National. There’s also a half-dozen smaller parties, either further left, further right, or single-issue parties (like the Greens). The system usually means either Labour or National usually make up the major party in Government, but have to go to smaller parties for support and compromises. At the moment, the Government is roughly centre-right – National as main party, ACT (libertarian in nature) and the Maori party (indigenous rights – really a left-wing party) forming support. Messy, but means there’s always a pretty good representation of views both in the House and in Government.

Price might find himself on the IR redshirt list, now they have Branch on board.
Sammy Aiken’s a free agent, now, too. If they get short of WRs they can either play Slater as WR or cut Ojinnaka or someone to add Aiken.

2 games, I think
2 games, 4 kick returns at a 25 yard average, and one end-around run for 12 yards or somesuch.

Tate was always close to IR since he was drafted.
They gave him a couple games to test the wheels, then some bed rest.

tore his acl(and mcl?) in his last year in college
he was healed more during the season, so we decided to give him a try in a couple series, then decided to rest him, and put him on IR, so we can have a fresh Tate next season. :)

I know he was hurt in college
but he hurt his knee playing against the Titans last year.
Keep the faith!
Different knee, too, I thought?

Is Price actually injured?
Or would that just be a strategy move?

He had an ankle sprain
but he’s been practicing. I get the impression that the coaches don’t think he’s ready to play just yet.
Keep the faith!
Strategy (mostly)
If it’s a choice of IR a rookie who isn’t expected to contribute much anyway, and cutting someone who’s potentially valuable this season, you might as well IR the rookie and keep the backup player, just in case.
It’s just a way of using 53 roster spots to keep 54 players, as such.

so
if a rookie has a headache and isn’t going to contribute in his rookie year…can they IR him?

He's *supposed* to have an injury...
but the severity of it is arguable. Find me any NFL player (or any professional sportsperson) without a niggle or two…
His knee is hurt enough to miss training, I suspect that’s easily ‘bad’ enough for IR if they so choose.

I wish Price was kept active and used a little.
I prefer to try their best to win this season. Maximize Brady’s play, and go for it.
Let a guy like Price be a bomb receiver [known fact to every defense]. They still have to run with him, and that can tire out a DB and/or a safety just enough for the next down when he is covering someone else. And, if Price catches a bomb, all the better from there on out. He’ll draw double coverage on every bomb thereafter.
Branch was a nice acquisition, but Price offers protection for Tate, Branch, and Edelman who have all been injured recently. I’d rather mature Price under fire than bring back Aiken. Not that Aiken wasn’t a nice role player, but I think Price has more upside as a WR, and the special teams are doing fine w/o Aiken. Price might not surpass Aiken’s performance, but we know Aiken’s potential. He’s shown what he can do, and it got him released. Let’s see what Price has for poetential.
Slater's probably in line to be a bomb threat before Price
It’s not like Slater’s slow, and he’s had some familiarity in the system.
