How would you treat the returning Randy Moss on Sunday?

Our own furiousd had an idea and I think it is a good one.  Sir Randy of Moss came here in 2007, lit up the scoreboards, and helped us to the first 18-0 season ever.  He was a good troop in 2008 when Matt Cassel did his best to fill in for the best QB evah, and continued to make some very Randy Moss plays (TD catch in the Jets game comes to mind).  He still put up over a thousand yards last season despite the receiver cupboard being relatively bare.

Now, unexpectedly and unexplicably, he's a Viking and he's coming back to town this Sunday.  If you were at the stadium, how would you greet him?

If I were there I'd be standing and hollering my head off when Randy's name is announced

Pre-game, of course. After that, I cheer for the Patriots.

Keep the faith!

True dat.

Me too. Like Belichick said, he did everything we asked of him.

Reminds me a little of Toy Story. Tommy had a favorite toy, but the offense grew up and that toy wasn’t going to get played with very much. Just the occasional time for nostalgia. But all good toys want to be played with, and so the toy asked to go where he could be played with. So they sent him to be with a guy that “plays like a kid out there.”

Ok, that last sentence made me puke a little in my mouth, but you get the idea.

But it is all too true… Farve when they do good reminds me of a kid… Brady does too… but there is something gleeful and childlike in those moments with Farve (and I say that despite not like him that much otherwise).

Agreed… Before the game it is great to go crazy for him— he gave the Patriots so many good moments, and it is hard for me to do anything but love him.

Once the game starts, he is just another player for the other team, and would be treated by me accordingly.

I don't know - I went with Clap and cheer but not go crazy

End of the day it ends up feeling like a pure business transaction with Randy.

Get him in for a song, get a solid return & pay accordingly. When the value decreases it’s mutually agreed to part ways.

No emotion in this really, just business. No O for me. I’ll save that for Teddy, Willie and Ty (Law)

Understood.

I’d clap my fool head off, though, just to be at the Razor.

You gotta cheer for him.

That should be an easy one. I hope he gets a standing ovation as well. I know I would stand.

I went with Standing O twice over

My thinking is…as the Vikings are an NFC team, we won’t get to play them again for another 4 years. And a lot could happen in those 4 years…Randy might possibly even retire. This could be the last opportunity Pats fans have to get a glimpse of Moss (stadium wise). For this reason, if I was there, I’d stand and lose my voice for him. It’s possibly the last time we get to honor a guy that gave us so many mind-boggling plays.

I don't think so. Homey don't play dat.

If there's a standing ovation, Brett Favre might think it's for him, and retire on the spot...

He's so vain, he probably thinks the clapping if for him...He's so vain...

he also thinks this song is about him….

I think we all know Brett won't retire for anything.

His press conferences are so ego-maniacal they hurt. “If it were anybody else, it (playing on Sunday) may not work”
I hate that guy!

Standing O. That guy was great here.

I’ll take 11 players with heart on the field over 11 guys with just talent. Talent is fleeting, it goes away over time. Heart is what drives you to be better. To push yourself beyond what you think your capabilities are. To show us that when you strive, all things are possible.- SMP

These players, a lot of other people didn't believe in them, but they believe in themselves. And that is all that matters."- Bill Belichick

Standing ovation and I'd be disappointed if he didn't get one

One other thing to note thought regarding Moss’s time with the Pats. You mention his solid output last year, but there’s that slightly important tidbit that he played the last 11 games of the season with a SEPARATED shoulder, along with the bulging back discs that he’d been battling with earlier in the year.

That guy absolutely gave it our all, and is one of the greatest players ever to put on a Patriots uniform

Ever so slight amusement

and just a hint of haughty derision.

He went to Minnesota, and the Patriots won.

Give him an ovation, though.

Glad to see so far

that ovation or positive clapping/cheering are favored. I would be down for either. I think there is a lot of behind the scenes stories about Randy and this team that never got any press, from the hard work he put in, to playing hurt, to motivational speeches, to what a good teammate he was, etc. I know it didn’t end very well, and for that there is a general feeling of bitterness, or just a sense of misfortune, but if I were at the razor, which I won’t be, I would give him a hearty cheer to let him know how much I loved seeing him in a Patriots Uni. I would hopefully also cheer as he leaves the field with the Viking in a tattered mess.

by furiousd on Oct 28, 2010 7:14 PM EDT reply actions

Definitely. Nothing but respect for him.

I think everyone here knows my answer, but i hope we whip there butts on Sunday.

Not because of Moss, but because of Favre.
PS~ Moss certainly won’t dare go middle of the field with the “hit happy” Meriweather lurking. That being said, if we are up by 2 or 3 td’s i’ll like him to get another dazzling, “how in the world did he do it” td.

Don't cut your locks Tom Terrific!

I hope we wallop the Vikings on Sunday as well- just because I would stand and show Randy love at the beginning of the game, does not mean that I want him to walk out with the “W”… I save that for our boys in Blue (or Red as this week’s uni will be).

I do wonder though (I think it's a fair question):

What will Moss do? Will he ignore it and shy away, or take everything in?

I don't think so. Homey don't play dat.

by AtomicDawg on Oct 28, 2010 7:52 PM EDT reply actions

Oh i think he'll take it in.

He’ll do the “peek-a-boo” thing he used to do back in 2007 through 2009. Remember when he and the fan wearing a Moss mask, was going back and forth?

Don't cut your locks Tom Terrific!

by PatNation85 on Oct 28, 2010 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, I think it was called "Seperation"

because his long TDs would “seperate” opposing defenses. I forgot who/whom I heard that from, though.

I don't think so. Homey don't play dat.

You get to meet Moss (and spit on him) and then hang with Plaxico

It’s win-win.

I'll always remember Randy for 2007

And then having a huge 2008 when Brady went down. I’d never boo him. He’s looking to boost his stats at the end of his career, not just be a decoy, and I can understand that.

Favre though. I want him FLATTENED.

Will I ever get to where I'm going?
If I do, will I know when I'm there?

Good to see the poll

shows a small minority does not appreciate the good things Randy did for our team. I like Randy Moss.
