First Half Notes: Week 8 (Patriots vs. Vikings)
A few quick thoughts at the end of the first half:
- The Patriots defense has looked alright to this point. They've been allowing the underneath throws, but have taken away the deep throws over the top (and have blanked Randy Moss to this point). Of course, the big 3rd and one stop was big in the first quarter. And at the end of the half, the goal line stop was HUGE. And while the Patriots have stepped up when it matters, I'd like to see them slow down Adrian Peterson on first and second downs, and force Brett Favre to throw down the field in 3rd and long situations.
- The Patriots have also looked pretty conservative on offense. Minnesota has shut down BenJarvus Green-Ellis on the ground, and have forced the Patriots to mostly underneath throws.
- This game has a similar feel to the Chargers game from last week. Hopefully the Patriots can get something going on offense and ultimately pull this game out.

Anyone want Jason McCourty, too?

haha that'd be awesome
give them similar looking numbers too and they won’t know which is which “is that the good mccourty or the average one? ahhh!”
Jason McCourty has picks in consecutive games, just like Devin
J. McCourty got a pick in week 3 against the Giants (yeah, he did what Asante Samuel couldn’t and intercepted Eli Manning), got hurt, and only came back for this week, just in time to pick of Phillip Rivers (who Devin intercepted last week).
Both of them have two picks in their last two games. They even both picked off Phillip Rivers. Did I mention they’re twins? Haha.

If we get them both, how about 32 and 23 for numbers....

These were written in the heat of battle.
I was on my Blackberry, watching away from home. Messed up on the thread to post to.
So sue me.

You jinxed that, thankfully.

Lots of great efforts by lots of players, but
if i had to pick two:
Offensive Player of the Game: BJGE. 112 yds, 2 TDs. And doing it against a very stout Vikings Run defense.
Defensive Player of the Game: DMC. He is stepping closer and closer to the upper elite CB status each week.
And he's doing it as a Pats-style corner
None of this Asante Samuel route-jumping, no-tackling business.

Moss say's he won't answer anymore questions for the rest of this season!!
He was obviously pissed that the league fined him earlier this week. But damn!

I thought the same thing.
If they feel like you’re one-upping them, they will really get on your back.

There is something called the NFLPA.
They might not like that.
What exactly was the reason for the run working in the 2nd half and not the first?
Better blocking, less predictability? etc.

this season bad 1st half..great 2nd half….

Right before the Tate TD
they started mixing in the run. It was working, so (for once) they keep the heat on and ran, ran, ran.
I don't think so. Homey don't play dat.
And they opened up the run as soon as they targeted a TE or two.

Young guys
Are making plays.
Zoltan had a pretty good day punting despite the wind. Herndo wasn’t much of a factor all game but had a nice 4th quarter catch. BJGE and Woodhead were great rushing/receiving respectively. Tate puts up his first hundred yard game and shows great prescience on a couple big plays. Pryor had a huge hit on Favre. Spikes/Mayo held back AP, especially when it mattered most.
This team isn’t going anywhere for a while.
"This team isn’t going anywhere for a while"?
You mean in terms of individuals leaving the team right? Not to a Superbowl i presume?
Don't cut your locks Tom Terrific!
Well, we have Bodden and a chunk of the D-line locked up for a while.
The O-Line will be revamped i’m sure, with a OT;C;OG in the upcoming draft. So we’ll see.

I think he means in terms of the top of the league
there were some out there who said “Pats demise”, “Is this season over”, yadda, yadda, yadda, you know….
I don't think so. Homey don't play dat.
The most idiotic thing ever, was when the freak'inNFL Network analyst was asking,
“Are the Patriots throwing the season?”
