Alabama NT Terrence Cody Trims Down
"Lastly, NT Terrence Cody weighed in at 349, five pounds less than what he weighed at the combine and drastically less than the 370 pounds he weighed during the Senior Bowl."
I know, some of you may be wondering why I'm posting this when we resigned Vince Wilfork. My thought, is that we utilized Wilfork at the DE position throughout the season- why can't we use Cody in the same manner?

Here's why I think we should give Cody another look-at:
One of the main reasons people shied away from Cody was his incredible size- they questioned his work ethic. Well, he’s shed 20 pounds and will probably drop a couple more. He had been heralded as the next Wilfork before his Senior Bowl weigh in- now he’s losing weight and is an even more attractive option.
He’s great against the run, which we need to improve. He’s not the best pass rusher, but as a NT his job is to more occupy space than reach the QB- his size and strength will allow the other players to get to the QB. My thoughts?
If Cody is available in the 2nd round, we should get him. A line of Cody, Wilfork and Warren has the potential to be incredible. We’d have the option of running an incredible 4-3 some of the time, we’d be better against the run and we’d have a D-Line of 3 players to command double teams. You know what that means? They’ll need 6 players to cover the line. Yeah. Throw in the Pass Rush OLB we’re grabbing/Tully Banta-Cain and we have a defense that is made for wreaking havoc.
So good for Cody for showing us commitment and not going the way of Andre Smith and staying overweight. I’ll keep my eye on him.
Possibly.
Oh, and good to see you using your name.

That report worries me
Are you suggesting we move Wilfork to DE (assuming we stick with a 3-4 alignment)? Seems like Cody has 0 versatility and wouldn’t succeed anywhere but DT. I don’t know if he’s worth a second-round pick, unless Hoodie’s planning on switching to 4-3.

Have to say that's an interesting option to consider
with my mind set on Wilfork, I had tuned out that position when thinking ahead to the Draft.
Keep the faith!
good point
but if a no huddle offense like the colts comes along…..wilfork is too heavy and prob get worn out

Cody
is overweight, he gets tired VERY easily, he “dogs it” whenever he feels like it during plays, and can get maneuvered around easily when in a passing situation. These are the negatives I evaluated from him.
Eh
I’d rather have Odrick. But if we take Kindle or Graham in the first round and Odrick isn’t available in the second, I’d consider Cody.
Odrick's more likely to go in the first-round
Kindle and Graham have knocks on them – Kindle’s a speed-rusher without enough versatility or skill to do anything else (yet), and Graham is a 4-3 DE who doesn’t seem to have the natural size or skill-base in coverage to be a 3-4 OLB (yet). There’s also a couple of other, similar guys pushing for first-round OLB status, so there’s a decent chance that Kindle and/or Graham could slide to the second-round, if only because someone else was rated higher (Ray Maualuga suffered the same fate as he went to the second round).
Odrick’s such a big, physical beast that there aren’t many guys who are comparable, so if a team really wants a guy like him, there’s only one or two options if you don’t have a top-5 pick. It’s just supply-and-demand, and as good as Kindle and Graham are, there are quite a few guys who are in-and-around that area of talent, meaning the rush to get one isn’t as pressing. Not so with Odrick.

Which is why, at this point, I'd take Odrick in the first and hope Kindle or Hughes is available in the second
Between them, they’d solve a lot of our problems in the front seven, and we’d still have two more second rounders to get us a TE and either a WR, a RB, a CB, or the replacement for Light or Kaczur, whichever doesn’t get cut or traded in the preseason.
I am liking that TE Greshman or somethin. I have been watching the combine and I am gettin excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ii we don’t sign Watson we need a sweet TE and If he falls to us I say we snag him.

I'm lukewarm on Gresham
Surefire talent and all that… but so was Watson. And Daniel Graham before him. And David Thomas, too – the Saints playoff run showed that. So if the Pats had at least three very good TEs and didn’t throw to them, I don’t hold out hopes that they’d suddenly start doing it now – and in the meantime, Gresham isn’t as good a blocker as Graham or Watson.
I do, however, see the Pats targeting TE in the draft – Hoodie has taken 8 or 9 of them in his time at New England (depending on whether you count Garrett Mills as a TE), and he hasn’t taken one in a while. Belichick seems due to take one.

We're pretty much stuck -- we have to take one
I don’t think anyone believes the TEs we have are capable of starting.
I want Ben back and I figured gresham's blocking was good considering 1 of my fav on NFL network said hes better blocker than Pettigrew who went to DET.

I don't think I would have wanted Pettigrew either, though
At least not in a TEs-are-blockers-first-dammit system. If I was passing to them, sure. If the Pats O system is the same in 2010 as it’s been the last 5? 10? years… not so much.
If I were to look for TEs that are likely to be drafted, I’d start scoping out any blocking-TEs that are 260+lbers with 4.60 second 40s. Big, fairly quick, good blockers. Kyle Brady with wheels, that kind of thing. Bonus points if they’re around the 5th or 6th round.
