Nick Caserio Checks Out Boston College Pro Day; Talks About Draft Process
![]() |
Director of player personnel Nick Caserio, director of college scouting Jon Robinson and QB coach Bill O'Brien were on hand at Harvard University today for Boston College's Pro Day. While there aren't the big names this year like Matt Ryan and B.J. Raji that drew crowds in the past, some of the local talent was there — including BC’s OL Matt Tennant, LB Mike McLaughlin, and Holy Cross QB Dom Randolph.
Caserio talked to Albert Breer about where the college pro days fit in the scouting process when evaluating players.
"I’d say 80, 90 percent of it is done," Caserio said. "You’ve had the fall evaluation. Some have gone to an all-star game, so you’ve had the opportunity there. Some have gone to the combine, some haven’t, so this is kind of the last piece of their puzzle, and from there, you’re kind of processing all the information. And hopefully you have a snapshot – 'OK, here’s what the player is, based on all the information with his track record'.
What follows pro days are individual workouts and then in-house team visits for the more serious prospects. At that point, "it's all about figuring out the person, rather than the player." Caserio visited Rutgers' Pro Day on Wednesday and has another one on Friday. No off-season rest for the coaching staff yet.

QB Dom Randolph
Holy Cross is indeed a small school, but I’ve watched Randolph play and wasn’t surprised one bit to hear that he was getting some attention from NFL scouts. It would have been neglect if he hadn’t.
Dan Shaughnessy wrote about him back in November for Sports Illustrated, giving some national love to a local kid who wouldn’t otherwise be on anyone’s radar. Jennifer Toland (Worcester Telegram & Gazette) also wrote about him last month, noting that “Scouts from all 32 NFL teams came through Holy Cross last fall and got to see Randolph break the New England career passing yardage record.” Good for him.
Keep the faith!

What is he projected at? We could use more than 2 QBs. And we could see if he is a developmental prospect.
A project QB is always a possibility with a bunch of 7th round compensatory picks
Tom Brady himself was a low-round comp pick, and they targeted QB with it from the outset despite having a full QB battery. It wouldn’t surprise me if they looked at him for a 7th, assuming he drops that far.

When they took Brady they were tossing up between him and Patrick Ramsay
so if they’re going to go QB with one of those comp picks, it’ll probably be a decision based on who is there, what they offer, and what the gut reaction is. They did it pretty well in Brady, and again in Cassel, so maybe good things come in threes.

In saying that, I still quite like Hoyer
He looks like a decent NFL QB; a lot of rookie QBs don’t. Wouldn’t want him to start tomorrow or anything, but I do want him on the roster.

It's pertty cool to see a fellow Sader getting attention from all over the NFL.
He had a tremendous impact on HC’s football program. Back in 2005-06, the Board of Trustees was seriously considering not renewing the football team’s charter. I think Randolph may have single-handedly kept the sport of football alive at HC for another quarter-century.
Not too shabby, for a 1-AA kid.
Justin Jarvis is awesome.
He reminds me of Troy Brown’s style at WR.
when is umass proday....hope they scout that vlad kid
we need a big nasty RT…unlike kaz
