Draft Wishlist
With the draft upcoming I'd like to here everyone's wishlist for the First 4 picks. Try to keep it realistic, players can definitely fall much later than they are projected as we've seen in the past but dont overdo it. Also no trades.
Here's my dream draft, won't go down like this because I can almost guarantee we go Pass rusher with the 1st pick (probably a good idea). Also this is assuming Spiller doesn't fall to 22 (dont know how his stock dropped so much). I'm also going to note that I think we wait to address the OLine till next year's 1st round and pick up an F.A. for this year.
1st Rd:
pick 22
Golden Tate WR (ND) I can almost guarantee this pick won't be made if he is available as I'm sure we're looking at an Outside Pass Rusher. He'd be a great compliment to the Moss-Welker combination and the kid has intangibles. In the right system he could shine.
2nd Rd:
pick 42
Jahvid Best RB (Cal) This would be a steal if he were to fall this low, dont see it happening but this fills a big hole and I flat out like the kid. If he falls this low how do we pass him up.
pick 48
Jermaine Gresham TE (OKLA) Big question marks here but top 10 in terms of potential. Mock drafts have him falling this low, I dont see it happening and I dont see us making 3 consecutive offensive picks. But BB tends to take the best available player.
pick 54
Eric Norwood OLB (SC) Smart, fast and versatile. We'd have to go Pass rusher with this last pick.

i like golden tate. im not a jhavid best fan personally i think there are better late round options with less risk in terms of injury at rb position. i think a pass rusher will be taken with the first 2nd round pick. golden tate is used on the first round pick. and as for a TE idk how gresham physically is holding up after those injuries.
Hmm...
…I don’t think Gresham will drop that far. In fact, out of those picks, I’d say only Norwood would be a good choice.
Tate is a great player who played in a Patriots style offense, but, as you state, we have such other pressing needs that it wouldn’t make sense to take him. There are players in the 2nd round with as much potential, but a little less accolades, such as Damian Williams or Arrelious Benn that could be looked at late in the 2nd. I’d say that we utilize our 1st round pick on a trench player- OT or DE. Charles Brown or Jared Odrick.
Jahvid Best is more of a scat back like Darren Sproles, but I don’t see Best holding up as an every down back. He’d be, at best in my opinion, a change of pace back. I don’t see us upgrading our RB Committee through the draft this year. I wouldn’t be surprised if we took Best, but I don’t see us doing that. I’d expect us to try and grab an OLB/DE here, like Hughes or Rickey Sapp.
As I said, Gresham probably will be off the board much earlier on (as potentially the 1st round), I’d say we use this pick on an offensive weapon. If you want to grab an offensive weapon, I say that this is the pick to do it- Gronkowski (another TE) with almost the same measurables may be available here, or you can go WR or, if you really want, RB.
WIth the 4th pick, I love Norwood. Yes, even if we grab an OLB/DE with the first pick of the round. The strength of the 3-4 defense comes with D-Line strength and LB depth. We have NO LB depth anymore. Grabbing Norwood gives us more depth and should bring some bite back to our LB core.
This
There’s no way Gresham drops to 48. I doubt he’ll even be around at 42. I sure hope we don’t take him at 22 — we’d be better off taking Gronkowski or Hernandez (just as good, possibly better in our offense) with one of the second rounders, or trading one of the second rounders to Chicago for Olson — but that’s probably the only place where we could get him.
And there’s no way the Pats take a receiver at 22. We have too many bigger needs that need help immediately to draft a receiver who probably won’t really help us too much in his first year — which is true of any rookie receiver — anyway.
We have two glaring gaps on the roster — pass rush and tight end. So of the four picks we have in the first two rounds, we can be certain at least one will be used on an OLB and at least one will be used on a TE. DE is also a strong possibility, particularly if Odrick is available at 22, unless the front office thinks Brace or Pryor can step up and be effective as a full-time starter this year. CB is also a possibility, given that Wheatley and Wilhite have games when they couldn’t cover stationary objects let alone NFL wide receivers. And I’d love to see them use a second rounder on a running back, but wouldn’t be surprised if they just let Maroney and Taylor play out their contracts and address that need next year.
I doubt we will use are first round pick on an offensive player when you can get a solid WR in round 2. I like the Jahvid best pick in round 2. Adds an explosive playmaker out of the back field. Jerry hughes or sergio kindel would put a big smile on my face
In a perfect world, I have us getting Odrick at 22, Kindle or Hughes with one of the second rounders, and Gronkowski. That would leave us with one more second rounder to use on either a running back, a wideout, a corner, or the best offensive lineman left on the board, preferably a tackle. If we don’t use the fourth pick on a RB, we have the Raiders’ #1 next year — Mark Ingram? — or our own; if we don’t take a WR, we’ll have to see what Tate can do for us this year and reevaluate for next year’s draft; and if we don’t take a tackle, we’ll have to take one next year to replace either Light or Kaczur, whichever doesn’t lose his starting job to Vollmer this year.
I truly think Kindle is our guy and I would be happy with it, I just worry about our WR corps with the Welker injury. Obviously one of the 4 picks will be a TE.
I really think we should wait for OLine till next years first round. But BBs is best at evaluating OLine of all positions. If we get a steal with the 3rd or 4th picks he’ll go that route.
If Spiller is available wouldn’t we be forced to pick him???
WR's usually one of the easier positions to fill via late free agency
There’s going to be 5 or 6 or 7 WRs on any given NFL roster, so there’s always somebody who’s available to trade or about to be cut. Further, there’s always rookie WRs who get taken in the draft, so suddenly one of those 5 or 6 or 7 guys already on the roster is unnecessary, so they get cut after the draft. And when those roster-cuts start happening in the pre-season, it’s quite often WRs who get the pointy end of the axe, because there’s so many of them in the first place. In other words, even if the WR pool of free agency is a little shallow now, it’ll have a flood of players after the draft/training camp/preseason if you need that bit-part, 5th WR guy. And because you’re picking them up cheap, perhaps for a one-year deal, if Welker does come off the PUP-list before week 8 or whatever, you can cut the new guy as easily as you got him.
I’m not sure one of the first 4 picks will be a TE, in all honesty. The TEs I’ve seen projected for the first two rounds are pass-catching-only Jason Witten/Dallas Clark types, which isn’t the direction of TE that Belichick has gone in the past. I’d put my money on a TE in the 4th or 5th instead, in the Garrett Mills mould.

Light and Kaczur being traded.
I was wondering, hoping, dreaming, that with some many teams in the NFL having a porous or depleted o-line that if there was any possibility of trading both Light and Kaczur for draft picks and selecting several linemen in this draft. I want to see 6’9" Veerdor (sp?) on the patriots so badly. I think the Patriots O-line coaching is tremendous and they can transform raw players into elites. Any thoughts?

I dont understand why everyone has given up on Light? I agree with your views on our offensive line development, that being said we draft O-Line really well. Volmer was a steal and to think he hasn’t come close to peaking
I think we stand pat with this Line, (unless you can find a suitor for Kaczur). Then Draft a Tackle first round next year.
Because he's objectively not good
In the 688 snaps he played last year, he gave up two sacks, seven QB hits, and 18 QB pressures, and he committed two penalties. And he wasn’t exactly dominant in run blocking either, not to mention he only played six full games because he can’t stay healthy. Kaczur wasn’t great either, but he played 11 full games and did a better job proportionally keeping pass rushers off Brady.
Both are solid backups at this point, but you can’t have a guy who performs like that at LT on a pass-first team. At least when the RT is mediocre, a righthanded QB like Brady can see the rusher coming.
defense wins championships
i hope they spent 2 or even 3 picks w. the first 4 picks on Defense.

This
I think use one of the second rounders on a TE, and the other three picks on an OLB for sure, and some combination of LB (in or out), DE, and CB.
1st – Graham
2nd(a) – Kyle Wilson
2nd(b) – Kindle
2nd© – Hernandez
This would be the best scenario, imo, that is also plausible. I also like the TCU linebackers who’re projected in the 2nd, and I’m very high on Golden Tate if the FO decides to go in that direction, but would like for them to wait and see if he’s available in the 2nd rather then get him at 22. Odrick would be a great pick too at 22.
mine:
1st: Jared Odrick
2nd: Kyle Wilson
2nd: Hernandez
2nd: Ricky Sapp
