Around SBN: Odds On Peyton Manning's Next Home Includes Three Teams

LT signed a 2 year deal with the Jets after they had released Thomas Jones. A headscratcher, in my opinion, since Jones clearly has gas left in the tank, while Tomlinson has been gassed for a couple seasons. What does this mean? I think the Jets just downgraded. They lose a locker room leader who would do anything for the team in Jones and pick up player who would rather stand on the sidelines and make comments after his team loses.

Seems like a perfect fit!

I don't get it...

Maybe you cut Kevin Jones to get younger in position. Fine. But then you don’t hire some other old guy to replace him, who’s arguably got less tread on the tyres and is coming off a far less impressive season than your incumbent. If anything, I could understand keeping Jones and adding LT – that’d be a great three headed monster/ built-in redundancy thing. But cutting Jones for LT? Meh.

In their defense...

…I was under the impression that they did want to sign Jones again, just to a lower contract.

Scratch that, that doesn’t defend them at all. That’s a really stupid decision.

Keeping up with the Joneses is hard when there's so many of them...

Thomas Jones, not the other one. Oops.

I don't know what's worse...

…being cut after your best season EVER, like Thomas Jones, or just being stuck in Detroit, like Kevin Jones.

Thomas Jones has had that happen TWICE to him, really

His movement out of Chicago was baffling, especially since he was so obviously the locker-room favourite that Brian Urlacher went out of his way to get Thomas Jones back on top of the depth-chart by injuring the usurper, Cedric Benson. You know a guy is loved by his team when the team’s starting middle linebacker deliberately injures the team’s first-round pick to give the incumbent guy his job back…

Oh, and Kevin Jones was a Bear. Now he's a free agent.

Joined the Bears in 2008, but was injured in 2009, recently released after the Bears signed Chester Taylor.

Both Kevin Jones and Thomas Jones were Bears at one point (hence a little confusion for a second in brain-addled mode). Add in Julius Jones… Ugh.

Now I got just one more reason to dislike LT.

Then again, he’ll give me more reasons to hate him through the season.

The 2010 New York Mets: Maybe it's the Phillies' turn to have 95% of its roster on the DL

The 2009 New England Patriots: At least we got our division title back

The 2009-10 New Jersey Devils: Allergic to second periods

I didn't think it was smart either

but you guys probably don’t mind it

le sigh

Not at all!

One injury to Shonne Greene and you have no offense. One injury to your left side of the O-Line (LT/LG/C) and you have no offense. I’m happy about that.

It’s your defense that I’m worried about…

And psychologically...

If he couldn’t take the pressure of the media scrutiny in San Diego, how long can he last in NY?

when did the pressure get to him in San Diego?

He was always pouting and playing the "me first" game.

The SD media didn’t really seem to care, but you can bet the NY media will eat him alive for antics like that.

Do YOU think this is a good fit, or are you just being contrarian?

by nbradley07 on Mar 15, 2010 12:06 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't think he's trying to start anything...

…he’s probably just looking for concrete examples.

I seriously never heard anything like that before

I am not being contrarian, yeah he mouthed off everry now and then but i dont remember any whining.

Playoffs.

All those pouting non-appearances where he picked up an un-explainable injury and sat after the first quarter.

They actually get worse in two positions this way

Thomas Jones is a better starting RB right now than Shonn Green, and Green is a better third down back than LT, so they’re worse at both first and second string.

Really, the only way this makes any sense if is they wanted Green to get first stringer carries this year. And even then it’s still not a good move — they could do better than LT.
