An NFL source has confirmed to CSNNE.com’s Tom E. Curran that the Patriots and franchised defensive lineman Vince Wilfork have reached an agreement on a long term deal.
ESPNBoston’s Mike Reiss was first to report that the deal is worth $40 million over five years, and includes an $18M signing bonus and $25M in guaranteed money.
The franchise tag will be removed immediately.
More to come shortly.

I don't think they can (although the rules on tags change for the uncapped year)
And I’m not sure you’d really want to tag Mankins, even if you could. At the moment, Mankins is probably a happy camper – other teams can offer him big money, and the Pats would get due compensation if he jumps ship. In other words, that’s pretty much what would happen if he was on the Non-exclusive tag. And if he was on the Exclusive tag, then he wouldn’t be allowed to negotiate his place, which might annoy him.
His current tender means he’s unlikely to jump ship, and if he does, the Pats are arguably in a better position – they can snag Iupati with the first, and they’d get a third rounder to do something else with.
Token southern hemisphere guy - 14,688km from Foxboro. That's 9128 miles, for you heathens.
