PATRIOTS KEEP BODDEN!
"Leigh Bodden has officially agreed to terms with the New England Patriots on a 4 year deal thru the 2013 season."
I think this makes the Patriots the winner of this off-season. Wilfork, Bodden, Mankins (soon), Tully Banta-Cain and Gostkowski (soon). Yeah, that's an All-Star off-season, if I've seen one.
Edit: Bodden's agent has confirmed, but for 4 years instead of 5.
Edit2: Updated with numbers!

What an active day...
…but I have to say that we emerge from this early portion of the off-season as pretty big winners.
It sends a pretty good message to the locker room.
You play well, we’ll pay well.
My life has been a trivial pursuit. Trivia: where three roads meet.
The more you know, the more you know that you don't know.

But what does his agent say?
I won’t believe it until his agent says he signed with a CFL team.
Dunta Robinson signed a 6 year, $57 million contract...
and we get Bodden for a 5 year, $28.5 million contract. Wow. Especially when Bodden was much more successful than Robinson. Bodden’s here for HALF of Robinson’s cost (albeit, it’s a year shorter). Some may argue that Bodden isn’t worth that much. The fact that we managed to grab him for that much, in this time of free agency market (cap-less, with a comparable talent going for so much), is a miracle.
WAHOO!
The 2010 New York Mets: Maybe it's the Phillies' turn to have 95% of its roster on the DL
The 2009 New England Patriots: At least we got our division title back
The 2009-10 New Jersey Devils: Allergic to second periods
Checklist:: Doing Well so far
Done’s in bold
Resign Wilfork
Resign Bodden
Keep RFAs
Resign TBC
Get Rid of Adalius Thomas
Get a legitimate free agent Wide Receiver
Get a Tight End
Draft for pash rushers
And even AT might be at the bottom of that list.
Wide Receivers:
Jason Avant was signed by Philly
The Cardinals aren’t going to let any of their receivers walk because of trading Boldin
Those that have potential:
Lance Moore of the Saints would cost us a 2nd rounder to grab
Domenik Hixon of the Giants would cost us a 2nd rounder as well
Seriously, there are no WRs worth what it would cost us to get them. I wouldn’t give up a 1st rounder for Marshall and long term headaches. Not especially in such a defensively rich draft (and in positions we need heavy upgrades in). Every other noticeable WR would cost us a 1st and 3rd.
Looking at TEs, we’ve been bringing a bunch in. Fells already has a contract set up with us and there are 0 potential other TEs worth looking at. In fact, I expect us to revamp Tight End as a position altogether. Look for a new type of player on our roster- I’ll write an article soon.
We can get moore
but i think we won’t sign any WRs. I like Tate as a #2. From what I’ve seen from him in college highlights and the few of the plays he was involved in, he seems like a great stud.
Amazing - it seems like Bodden actually might have said "what's a couple more million, I want to win"
From what I read Houston was going to be paying at least a similar deal to the pats, which greater tax implications on the dollars.
End of the day though, seems like Bodden might have taken a bit less to be in a solid org with a better chance of winning.
Nothing against Houston, but Kubiak is squarely on the hot seat this year and that franchise is quite a bit less stable then NE
They're meant to 'break out' every year, though
Every year they have a roster move that looks like it ought to make them a playoff team… and every year the wheels fall off the wagon halfway through the season.
Token southern hemisphere guy - 14,688km from Foxboro. That's 9128 miles, for you heathens.
true but they are improving
After being a laughingstock for quite a while, Texas keeps improving. Yes, they thought they had a legit shot at making the playoffs 2 seasons ago and didn’t, and yes, they REALLY thought they had a shot at the playoffs this past season and didn’t. Both were big disappointments to their fans. But the point is, they are improving. After a first 5 years in the league that were nothing to write home about (and often downright embaressing), they were 8-8 in ‘07 (only good for 4th in their division), 8-8 again in ’08 (good for 3rd) and then 9-7 last year (good for 2nd). Heck, in some years 9-7 is a good enough record to get a wild card spot. It just didn’t work out that way last year. And though they haven’t yet gotten over the playoff hump (which I attribute the organization needing to learn how to build a “culture of winning” that teams like the Pats have), the trajectory is in the right direction. They seem to be doing a solid job drafting in recent years (e.g. 2 of the last 4 defensive rookies of the year) and overall running the organization in the “right” way. All they need to do is gain some experience learning what it’s like to win, and they can be a very solid, borderline dangerous, team.
I'm beginning to feel that
our resignings are more important. Because they ARE. Wilfork and Bodden were BIG signs, and if either were gone, I foreseen us having problems. Also Banta Cain is worth mentioning.
