Madden 2011 Ratings Released

Some news for this weekend. Team ratings, as well as some drafted players' ratings, have been released. Not much more substance, beyond discussion:

NFL Ratings here

Notably:

#1 New Orleans Saints - 92

#2 Indianapolis Colts - 91

#3 Baltimore Ravens - 90

#4 New York Jets - 89

#8 New England Patriots - 86

#16 Miami Dolphins - 79

#31 Buffalo Bills - 67

The Patriots dropped 2 points from last season, most likely due to not having a player emerge at the RDE position Richard Seymour left vacant. Also, I'm assuming Randy Moss dropped in points. In addition, I believe that our lack of a strong OLB opposite of Tully Banta-Cain hurts the team rating.

Individual Draftees after the jump!

Star-divide

Here's a .pdf file containing the first 5 rounds of draftees:

#27 CB Devin McCourty: 74

Compared with:

#7 CB Joe Haden: 79

#20 CB Kareem Jackson: 70

#29 CB Kyle Wilson: 76

#42 TE Rob Gronkowski: 77

Compared with:

#21 TE Jermaine Gresham: 78

#53 OLB Jermaine Cunningham: 53

Compared with:

#43 OLB Sergio Kindle: 78

#52 OLB Jason Worilds: 63

#54 DE Carlos Dunlap: 74

#62 ILB Brandon Spikes: 72

Compared with:

#8 ILB Rolando McClain: 79

#55 ILB Sean Lee: 69

#90 WR Taylor Price: 55

Compared with:

#77 WR Damian Williams: 74

#78 WR Brandon LaFell: 71

#87 WR Eric Decker: 66

So what does this mean? Nothing at all. Just something fun to look at, discuss and share our outrage at how Devin McCourty wasn't rated higher than Kyle Wilson.

It's funny, because his stats from college are pretty much the same as Carlos Dunlap

And they played the bookends on the same defence. Dunlap’s more physically imposing, but then arguably Cunningham’s the more impressive athlete because he racked up the same statistics with less size/weight/strength.

Wow...

Cunningham and Price just get no love.

At the very least,

They gave Price 95 speed…something to work with haha. Maybe they will have high potential.

I looked over the actual breakdown

And Price’s only ‘fault’ is the old lack-of-Madden-awareness. His physicals are NFL-worthy, and it’s probably a reflection of his college not running a Pro-style scheme. He’s a smart guy, though, so he ought to be able to pick things up.

Wow

I feel like the Jets don’t deserve to be this high. I understand they had a good year, but really they’re are not even that good. This is the problem with Madden, they base most of their ratings on how far the team got in the playoffs, not the actual skill, it would be like basing all of your draft picks in College Basketball off how they do in the tournament…wait a minute.

They also...

…factored in players like Santonio Holmes, LaDainian Tomlinson, Antonio Cromartie, etc. They don’t factor in real world suspensions to the team total, which is why their score is bumped up. I also assume that, as you said, the Jets’ playoff run drastically bumped up Mark Sanchez’s score.

Can't factor in locker-room personality explosions, either...

Jared Allen was rated in the 60s in that game too IIRC

Take it with a grain of salt.

Maddon: "This is your fucking fault!"
Joe West: "My fault?"
Maddon: "Your fucking fault!"

They left Jared Allen and Wes Welker out of Madden '05 entirely...
