Patriots Sign Two 7th Round Rookies
Today, the Patriots announced the signing of two more rookies, seventh round picks Kade Weston and Zac Robinson:
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots announced today the signing of seventh-round draft choices DL Kade Weston and QB Zac Robinson. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed. Weston and Robinson are the seventh and eighth members of New England's 12 2010 draft choices to sign with the team.
Weston, a defensive lineman from Georgia, was selected by the Patriots in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft with the 248th selection overall.
Robinson, a quarterback from Oklahoma State, was selected by the Patriots in the seventh-round of the 2010 NFL Draft with the 250th selection overall.
Weston, at 6'5" 315 lbs, is a candidate to compete for a roster spot along the defensive line. A big body, Weston can play defensive end or nose tackle in the Patriots 3-4. He is also a likely practice squad candidate.
Robinson was a star at OSU, and has the chance to make the roster spot as a backup quarterback. Robinson, who played out of the spread system at OSU, is also a top practice squad candidate, should he not secure a roster spot.
The signings bring the Patriots up to eight total rookies signed, with just four remaining. Left to be signed are second rounders Rob Gronkowski, Brandon Spikes, and Jermaine Cunningham, as well as first round pick Devin McCourty. The Patriots have been in discussions with McCourty and his agent, and are optimistic to have a deal done when training camp starts next week.

i dont expect these two picks to be on the 53 man roster
Non Sibi Sed Patriae.
I love my ZX-6r Kawasaki.
I bleed Scarlet and Grey...A Buckeye for Life
Neither do I, although they'll have a shot
But I do think both of them will land on the practice squad.
I’d say Weston is competing with Deaderick and Richard for that last spot on the roster, if the Patriots hold one open for a young defensive lineman.

Agree on the DL thoughts
Also I guess if they play well enough they could take the spot of a Damoine Lewis and save the team some $$.
Veteran presence
would be my preference with G. Warren and D. Lewis both playing a significant role this season. The PATS need a stronger inside rush to lessen the burden of the OLB’s. I think Lewis can fill this need. Hopefully, Deaderick and Weston are the future. I’d hate to lose either of them off the pactice squad. Teams grab every coach BB grooms, and they likewise strip his practice squad of new draft picks.
Is there some type of compensation for stripping another team’s practice squad?
If not, there should be.
In my opinion, it penalizes teams like the PATS who attempt to identify prospects that they want to develop [worthy projects]. Instead of being rewarded for their research and scouting efforts, they lose these projects to some low life GM who steals them away. I think a compensatory draft pick should be forfeited for each practice squad player taken by another team.
In the end, I’d keep Deaderick and any other guy that Saban recommends.
If the season expands to 18 games
Maybe they will incorporate some way so that teams can protect its practice squadders.

If the season expands, the players will strike unless there is a MAJOR shift in the CBA
Also – currently there is no penalty for taking cut players who would be assigned to the PC.
That’s one reason why it may make more sense to cut a Damione Lewis then a Weston or similar prospect.
A guy like Lewis would not be incredibly attractive to other teams since he hasn’t worked out with them and would come at $$$. Pats could keep him at the top of a list of names to call during the season as injuries mount.
Or as I believe our Comedic Sans suggested earlier this off season – a guy like Weston could get injured toward the end of training camp and but put on IR for the year….and that would be a shame.
Horrible, just horrible...
Stubbing your toe that badly… tragic.
Token southern hemisphere guy - 14,688km from Foxboro. That's 9128 miles, for you heathens.
