Patriots Sign Rob Gronkowski
According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com, the Patriots have agreed to terms with the 42nd pick in the second round, Rob Gronkowski.
Gronkowski is expected to compete with veteran tight end Alge Crumpler and rookie Aaron Hernandez for playing time as well as a starting job. At 6'6" 265 pounds, Gronkowski is a balanced tight end who can make an impact as both a pass catcher and a blocker. While he was widely considered a first round talent, he slipped to the second round after a back injury caused him to miss his junior season at Arizona.
With Gronkowski in the fold, there are now only two unsigned rookies, linebacker Brandon Spikes and cornerback Devin McCourty. Spikes is expected to sign sometime today.
Update: The deal is for four years and a total of $4.44 million for Gronkowski. Each year will carry minimum base salaries, with the majority of the last two years fully guaranteed. The deal also includes a $1.76 million signing bonus. Full contract details are on ProFootballTalk.com.

Good news
Now we just need O’Brien to bother incorporating the TEs into the offense and for Mankins to change from his diaper into pads and that side of the ball is all set.
Yup exactly, offense should be set this season
As long as Mankins comes back, because I honestly can’t trust Light/Neal/Kazcur to stay healthy for the entire season.

Agreed.
I trust Connolly stepping in in Neal’s place, but we don’t have a real stable tackle.

Which is exactly why we need Kazcur at tackle, not guard

The fact that Vollmer's a swing tackle...
…helps immensely. Because if either Vollmer or Light goes down, we’ll still have an adequate line as Kaczur can step in.

Didn't Vollmer AND Light both go down in the same game last year?
I think we need to expect that both Light and Kaczur will likely as not spent part of the year hurt.
Gronkowski's deal is 4 years, $4.44M from PFT.
With an $830K bonus if he plays enough. I think he’s expected to have a big impact!
it that a lot of money or little money or in the midde for that pick?

The PATS need Mankins
to sign. His experience and pure skill level is irreplaceable this season.
I want to see double TE’s a lot, and more runs with Maroney as the feature back. If he has success, that’d be a huge boost to the offense. That said, just trying and sticking with it will force the defense to respect the run. Gaining that respect, alone, would be a huge boost to the offense. They MUST run. They MUST pass to the TE’s on short routes. Mankins is a big part of this equation. The TE’s are all signed. Awesome start!
Mankins is a Pro Bowl LG.
His absence will definitely be felt. I suspect that play calling will be altered if he is absent this season. Obviously, we’ll never know either way as fans, but a Pro Bowl selection is quite meaningful, and Kazur or Connelly are not is equal. It’s a definite drop off. And, it potentially creates a domino effect should someone get injured.
Without Mankins, you already have sub #1 starting. With an additional injury, you have sub #1 and sub #2 starting. I bet Brady would have some thoughts on the matter not that he’d ever share them.
Light = LT
Mankins = LG
Kopen = C
Neal = RG
Vollmer = RT
Kazur #1 sub
Connelly #2 sub
