Patriots Sign 2nd Round Pick Brandon Spikes
Brandon Spikes and the Patriots came to an agreement on a 4-year deal late on Monday for a max value of just over $3.2 million with a $960,000 signing bonus.
This leaves first round draft pick Devin McCourty as the only remaining unsigned pick for the Pats.
More on Spikes after the jump...
Spike joins Jerod Mayo, Gary Guyton and Tyrone McKenzie on the inside linebacker depth chart. Spikes has nearly twenty pounds on the others and should provide a solid run down presence immediately. And if you watch the video below you'll see he could also bring a Ray Lewis-like leadership presence as well...

It's funny...
Just watched Americas Game 2000 Ravens and there were a lot of pregame speeches by Ray in it. It was striking to me how much Spikes sounds like him, and how into it he gets. Not saying he will be as good as Ray Lewis. But I can’t see Jerod Mayo giving a speech like this (no offense to him, just not his thang), and a vocal leader is something that seems like it was sorely missed on that side of the ball without 54, 37, 50, even 93.

I can't believe they didn't have the Knowshon Moreno tackle in that compilation
If you don’t know the one I’m talking about you can view it here:

2nd play of the game after Knowshon ran all over us the year before, and believe me it set the tone for that 49-10 whooping!
Can’t wait to see him in a Pats uniform!!!

Wow!
Thanks for linking that. Is it just me or did Spikes know instantly where Knowshon was going?

Not sure how he did it
but it was one of my favorite plays from that season. Needless to say I was ecstatic when the Pats picked him up.
By the way, how is this deal a max value? I’m not familiar with the current draft signing process, is there a max deal based on where you were drafted? I thought the current problem was that there is no rookie pay scale…

I assumed
it meant thats the maximum the deal could be worth with the signing bonus and incentives and whatnot.
