Mankins for a RB1 please!

Now with the loss of Kevin Faulk I believe the Patriots will find it necessary to address the glowing need at the running back postion.  With the trade deadline coming upon us I believe it is time to dump Mankins now and get the most value you can for him.  We have enough picks as it is for next draft so lets get someone who can help us out now.  There are a lot of teams who have multiple running backs who are better than what we have currently on the roster.

The first team that comes to mind is the Buffalo Bills coincidentally.  Marshawn Lynch has been unhappy there for a while now and might be time for them to cut ties.  God knows their offensive line could use the help as well.  So I think with that trade both teams would be assesing a need and its not like the Bills are a threat  or anything so I wouldn't mind trading with them even though they are in our division.

The second team I would look at would be the Dallas Cowboys.  I would take either Marion Barber or Felix Jones for Mankins.  I know Jerry Jones loves explosive players and I've heard he is in love with Felix so maybe they would part with Barber to sure up that offensive line which has had problems protecting Romo early this year and opening lanes for the speedy Jones.

Third I would take a shot at Brandon Jacobs.  There as been talk of him not being happy with backing up Bradshaw in NY and I think with his combination of size and speed he might be the punisher that this team needs.  We don't need a big play back who can take it to the house on any handoff, what we need is a bruiser who is going to hit the hole and pick up 5-8 yards and wear out opposing defenses.  Our big plays our going to be through the air.

So since it looks like Logan is gone for good anyway, and we have yet to put together a formiddable rushing attack in the first two games, and ow with the loss of Faulk this team needs a workhorse in the backfield.  Use Green Ellis or Taylor as a third down back if you want but get someone who can run it 15-20 times and give you 80-100 yards.  It will take a little pressure of the young defense by controling the clock and keeping them off the field.  It will also help with play action as well, right now teams are not scared of us running the ball so the playfake is not going to be as effective as it could be.  If I'm a defense I am siked when they hand if off and pick up 2 yards,  Better than Randy getting 52 yards and a Touchdown or Welker picking up 8.

Get a reliable running back now before it is to late and we find ourselves watching 4th quarter leads diminish late in the year because we can't run time of the clock and our opposing defenses are fresh as daisies.

barber

well no….@ the u of Minnesota, Barber and Lo-Mo were their 1-2 punch. Barber was the bruiser and Lo-Mo the speedster. In college, i liked Barber more than Lo-Mo.

Main problem with this is that they can't trade Mankins.

He has to be under contract for them to trade him – at the moment, he’s unsigned, but they own the rights to him if he chooses to play. It’s basically a right of first refusal. Since Mankins isn’t planning to sign, they’d have to approach teams to consider a trade, get the other team to say what they’d sign Mankins to, approach Mankins with that offer, get Mankins to sign something with the Pats, trade him, and then let the other team take on the responsibilities of Mankins’ contract, all before the trade deadline.

It’s not such a simple procedure as “hey, want Mankins?”. And it all depends on Mankins wanting to be traded and/or signing a deal, and he’s not exactly a happy camper with the Pats at the moment. He might refuse to sign anything with the Pats out of sheer principle, and if he’s feeling vindictive he might just sit out this year and drop into free agency with the intention of giving the Patriots nothing in return.

Unless that's scrubbed from the new CBA.

If they bump it to 4 or 5 years service (again), then he’s a FA.

How about...

Trading Darius Butler + 2nd round pick for Joseph Addai? Colts don’t seem to be using him much (but Manning would collapse with apoplexy)…

Our 2nd best CB is Darius Butler?

right now

in the 1st slot is
a rookie,
2nd year player suffering from a sophomore slump,
3rd year player who plays like a rookie,
an undrafted FA 2 years ago,
another undrafted FA 1 year ago,
and another 3rd year player who hasn’t seen the field since his rookie year.

yeah…Manning and Rodgers will have a field day w. out CB’s…time to bring in a Vet either Law or Springs

Chris McAlister, Kelly Jennings, Ken Lucas, or Ahmed Plummer come to mind...

Well…they’re vets, but Plummer never caught on with an NFL team after SanFran gave him the boot, Lucas was released by Seattle last year, Jennings is young and could be great alongside McCourty, and McAlister’s getting up there in years but could be a solid CB in a young secondary.

Butler will have to be our Asante(who can tackle as well).

It has been wondered that because they are asking Butler to play more aggressively, is driving him away from that skill set asante had. Not exactly his style.

I wish we had bodden, but if butler should play at a high level, it should be based on what he can do best. I don’t think being very physical at the line is very much a apart of that(maybe a bit).

To be fair...

Marima only brought up Canty to say that he WASN’T Chris Canty yet. I agree. Let’s not vilify Butler based on one bad performance. Especially since he was in position on a lot of those plays and the two PI were sketchy calls.

If he doesn’t improve, there will be problems, but let’s give the guy a shot. Lots of corners come into their own by their third year. Asante Samuel comes to mind.

well... we do need a RB.

Not looking for that MAIN back, but having two HEALTHY backs is not very ideal. especially since one of them is injury prone.
