As much as I would love it, I have no illusions of a week 13 repeat. I see no way Rex Ryan allows his team to beat twice in the same fashion. I posted this same Q on GGN as well, curious to see what everyone thinks Rex will do to stop the Pats.
To me, it's coming after Brady and making sure the spread formation can not execute as designed. The Pats spread did present difficulty for the Jets last time and I believe this is where Rex wants to make sure they improve first. Earlier this week I postulated that the 3TE, 2RB set could throw a wrench into the defensive game plan because it's an entirely new look for Rex to combat and he likely wouldn't have focused on a more physical based attacked. But enough about the Pats offense, a few concerns and thoughts on the Jets D after Da Jump skippity Jump
To me blitzing Brady, like any QB, is the best way to get him off his game and really impact the offense negatively, as we learned in ’07.
I heard one comment earlier this week here in NY talk radio regarding sending corner blitzes. Caller suggested sending Revis in to get him more involved, but I actually think Cromartie could be an issue for the Pats if he started coming in.
He’s fast, big & has long arms so he can get around the edge (I can get around Matt Light these days it seems) and could also react to the hot passes to his side. Also since his size vs. the Pats receivers is really a disadvantage in coverage, the Jets aren’t losing too much but could be really pressing Brady into mistakes. Seems like a low risk, high return type potential.
Especially off a spread formation where the nickel back can slide over to the outside receiver and the LBS or DE’s drop back into coverage taking away the underneath routes. Cromartie is fast enough to cut down Brady’s reads and I don’t really know how physically he would rush but Woody and Benny could have issues picking him up.
So this is my concern going into Sunday, How are the Jets going to come after pressure and what can the Pats do to pick it up or execute in the face of it?
Jets were able to take away the underneath routes in week 2, did they change their D in week 13, or did the Pats just change their O enough to expose the Jets weaknesses?
