This isn't a game thread.....just a thread for us youngsters who are addicted to the internet and this wonderful site. Rec this post so it stays up in the most recd fanpost section...then un rec it when I or CS makes another thread.
This is a guide for newcomers to use on certain Pats Pulpit slang, or lingo that we use here. This is an attempt for those who are joining our community (and for everyone) to understand some of the things that we say. I will be constantly updating and adding to this as we continue our journey as the Number 1 Patriots site in the interwebz.

Suggs did not receive a penalty for his smack to the head of Bengals receiver Jerome Simpson in Baltimore’s 13-7 win Sunday, although the league undoubtedly will take a look at the play. According to Suggs, the reason for his hit was because of what Simpson said about the Patriots quarterback.
“He came saying Tom Brady was his favorite quarterback,” Suggs said with a laugh. “So, it was instantly beef. It was rap beef, though, it wasn’t street beef.”
Wonder what Carson Palmer thinks about that.

this
but he was poking fun at Sugg’s serious dislike (obsession?) of Tom Brady and it paid off. Well, actually it SHOULD cost Suggs money
Suggs is like the woman in a Mills and Boon novel.
He possesses a strong dislike of Brady. Everything Brady does, Suggs finds utterly repulsive. in about 6 months though, Suggs will realise that he truly loves Brady.

A challenge from StampedeBlue
This is a team that, by my count:
#1 Lost its starting RB for almost half of the season and was once down to a rotation of the third-string RB and a fourth-string emergency signing for stretches.
#2 Lost both its WR3 and WR4 for the season.
#3 Lost its starting, Pro Bowl TE for the season.
#4 Has been forced to play an injured LT all season long.
#5 Lost its best run-stuffing DT for a quarter of the season.
#6 Lost its defensive captain for a quarter of the season.
#7 Lost its playmaking weakside LB for effectively three-quarters of the season, and may not get him back.
#8 Lost its best cornerback for the year, and likely lost his counterpart as well.
#9 Lost a starting safety, that safety’s backup and that safety’s backup for the season.
#10 Lost its kick returner for the year.
#11 And finally, lost a rookie third-round pick before training camp even started.
How many teams survive that? Really?

exhaust their horses?
you mean like Antoine Bethea running out of gas 12 yards shy of the end zone last week?
Keep the faith!
1 – Maroney gone, Taylor mostly gone, Faulk gone. Fourth-string RB and fifth-string emergency in Benny and Woodhead. Check.
2 – Lost #1 WR in Randy and #3 or #4 target (albeit not WR) in Faulk.
3 – No, but lost its #1 LG in Mankins for 8 weeks, #1 RG in Neal for the next 8+ weeks, and #2 RT/LT and #1a LG in Kaczur.
4 – Been forced to play Dan Connolly in 5 positions – LG, RG, FB, TE and KR (hah!).
5 – Ty Warren, IR.
6 – Ty Warren, Leigh Bodden, Brandon McGowan on IR. Bonus points for Brandon Meriweather on bench for 1/4 of season for being an idiot.
7 – Brandon Spikes for 1/4 of season; Jarrad Page as S/LB hybrid for half of season.
8 – Most experienced CB, Leigh Bodden, IR. Second-most experienced CB, Jonathan Wilhite, IR. Bonus points to Butler being on bench for half of season for playing like an idiot.
9 – Brandon McGowan, IR. Jarrad Page, 8+ games out. Brett Lockett, IR. Josh Barrett, IR.
10 – No, but they lost their Kicker for the year.
11 – Taylor Price was having a redshirt season because was held out of minicamp because of league rules, only now caught up to usual rookie standards.

You could have said
- Are playing a failed long snapper and a UFL guy at OLB and DE respectively. ( Nink and Moore) :P
One time
Just one f*cking time, I want someone on the Colts to thrown Manning under the bus for choking in the playoffs. Not their OL, not everyone on their IR…just Manning. Potential downside- coming of the apocalypse.
Deep in enemy territory
Polian won't do it: Manning would walk.
Irsay won’t do it. he doesn’t even know what sport is played by the team he owns.
Caldwell won’t do it: he only has a job because of Manning.
His O-line sort of did after SB XLIV, but they were only defending themselves. He needs to be thrown under first thing in the press conference.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/551485-laurence-maroney-time-running-out-on-his-career
Head coach Bill Belichick tried to reach him. During the 2009 season, Belichick reviewed film with Maroney and broke down Laurence’s performance every week. Belichick used quick hooks during games when Maroney made mistakes, whether it was losing yards on a carry or fumbling the ball, which Laurence did four times that season.
The extra attention did nothing to change Maroney’s habits or work ethic. In a radio interview before the 2010 season, RB Fred Taylor struggled to compliment Maroney during a word association segment:
“Laurence…um…good kid…um…he’s becoming more of a hard worker because he’s seeing what it takes. Misunderstood somewhat. But he has a good group of guys around him that’s gonna grab him and make sure he’s on the right track.” – 9/3/10 to WEEI
Maroney never got on board. While BenJarvus Green-Ellis followed Kevin Faulk around, asking questions as if on a game show, Maroney did his own thing, so sure he had all the right answers. Laurence only did what he was asked, not what was required. Without the Patriot Way work ethic, Belichick tired of trying to guide a stubborn mule and shipped Maroney and a 2011 sixth round pick to Denver for a 2011 fourth round pick..

Taylor hoped for the best for Maroney:
“That light switch, you have to turn it on and start getting the picture and grasping that concept, and that’s what we’ve been trying to instill in him. Hopefully, that switch comes on, and he won’t need anybody to push him that extra step. He can do it when the doors are closed and nobody’s watching. That’s what it takes to be special in this league.” – 9/17/10 to WEEI

suggestion for the content of this post
the nicknames are helpful, but as someone who is somewhat new to the site — can someone explain what the deal is with the Colts blog? I’ve seen people talk about exiles and such, but really don’t have any context.
Very simply
A whole lot of Colts fans were banned from their blog by the head writer at Stampede Blue (aka NK for North Korea) for disagreeing with him, and it got too personal for his liking. Now “the exiles” as they are referred to, keep open threads going at the Texans’ site, Battle Red Blog.

If you look long run, Luck might have screwed us out of Heyward
Heyward is rising, and could easily become a top half prospect. Without Luck, whoever Carolina picks will affect some other teams. say they take AJ green. Now Cleveland doesn’t think that a WR is a bigger value than a guy who can play 4-3/3-4 (Fairley we’ll say) and then the run starts early. In conclusion, Luck cost himself up to 60 million dollars and we might not get Heyward.

That isn't a guarantee, if there is a lockout next year and none of the draftees gets signed until the new cba is agreed to you have no idea what is going to happen.
Instead of taking a potential huge contract/ sitting on his ass for a year. He decided to take the sure thing; finish his education and get another year of football under his belt. Its probably not the most popular decision but arguably the safer one.
He can declare for the draft AND continue to get his education – he just couldn’t play for Stanford.

because now the Panthers
will try to propose to Roger Goodell that the trade that took away their second round pick should be returned to them. Without it their fan-base will crumble, team die off, and the Patriots will be held responsible. Goodel will punish our Patriots by making them trade Tom Brady, Vince Wilfork, and Devin McCourty to the Bills and every 1st round pick of the Pats for eternity will be given to the worst team in the league every year that isn’t the Patriots.
Goodell, being the dictator that he is, believes he has this power

Oh.. and here’s an interesting thing Obrien, you and I both criticize Ohio St. constantly and that has little to no relation to the Patriots. Even less so than Andrew Luck. yeah I understand where they are coming from for this and I see the disclaimers but this doesn't tell the whole story
It doesn’t take into account costly interceptions or fumbles the QB had, teams with overpowering run based offenses and of course dink and dunk offenses versus quick strike big play offenses.
there is actually another post
about the dink and dunk versus big strike QBs. Fun reading. Go to 18to88.com and look a few posts down, it has a link to it. Pretty awesome analysis if not completely full proof.
"Power does not corrupt men; fools, however, if they get into a position of power, corrupt power."
- George Bernard Shaw
Were I to guess...
That “what is it with NE QBs?” doesn’t take into account that a lot of the time they were, well, playing in NE. They might be a ‘below average QB’ on paper when they’re playing in an awful late January snowstorm, but they’re superhuman by any other account.
Judging it by yard per attempt is naturally going to skew it back towards the guys who play in pass-friendly environments (like, say, Domes) – Warner, Manning, Brees. I’m not taking away from those QBs – they were good enough to win homefield advantage, and it was well-deserved – but it just happens that those home-field advantages also suited racking up QB stats.
In contrast, Brady (and Brees) toiled away to get home-field advantage in awful passing situations, which meant other teams self-destructed against their D and Brady had to be at 100% to get so-so performances (at least, judged by YPA). That’s precisely why the NE QBs have so many wins beside what looks like sub-par performances.

I think it has more to do with better coaching than conditions
I think coaching makes up the difference in outliers more so than domes and such.
Y/A is used because it has the best association with winning and quarterbacks. The better Y/A a QB has the better he and his team usually perform.
Alas I didn’t post those to make a statement more just to say hey this is cool and I’d figure you guys would appreciate how interesting it is.
"Power does not corrupt men; fools, however, if they get into a position of power, corrupt power."

these stats are excuses, not explanations
I love stats but grow tired of all the metrics made by the apologists for specific players. Do these people realize that there is no perfect explanation for sports? Sports are played because the outcome isn’t already decided. In the link it says " winning-quality games" which is an apologists galore. In the Patriots loss to the Giants, both quarterback sucked until the end. Both stepped up, but one stepped up more (plus the Tyree catch) Trying to say one played better doesn’t change the end result. In the end, the final score of the games is more important than the fact that Peyton Manning went through more than Tom Brady.
I don't think there is anything apologists about any of these statistics
they’re just numbers. It says that per average numbers some teams over perform and some under perform. These numbers have nothing to do with Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady. Its just sheer, this is how it is. There isn’t an argument in the article that you can say is making an excuse for anyone. Did you even read it?

Disagree entirely. ESB lacks quality because it’s not epic.
The best movies were ANH – best and simplest storyline, truly “mythical” – and ROTJ because of the epic nature of the film.
Movie critics don’t understand art. They’d sit there complaining that old Norse sagas were repetitive.

Is there a Rooney rule in place or something?
The 3rd one (ROTS) isn’t bad either. Some parts are pure unadulterated crap, but once they get away from the feelings/politics side of the story it becomes exactly what a Star Wars movie should be. Now all I have to do is wait for Family Guy to do them.

I know the Failure picture that we dust off.
And I agree they used Moxie too much. My issue with that game was not taking the FG, and getting away from the first half play calling.
It took me a long time to forgive Scott Tolzien for throwing pick sixes in Ohio Stadium.
I can’t forgive Matt McGloin. He shows no capacity to learn from his mistakes; he was definitely the flavor of the moment and not the QB of the future.

Not happening.
Paterno rejected Bolden’s transfer, which was a poorly-planned move that should have been killed, and Bolden will stay at Penn State.
McGloin is NOT a longterm solution. He was far more like Todd Boeckman at his worst than a good QB.

Paul Jones is the future there
and some of the grumblings were that Bolden realized it.
As far as the transfers go, nothing will happen until after spring practice it seems. Bolden will stay until the end of the spring.

Pat McAfee -Colts punter-"@StampedeBlue I hope your website gets exposed for a complete joke. There’s no reason for you to do that, and its completely ridiculous."

That's a loaded question.
Gameday – McGloin
Pure Talent – Bolden
I qualify this by saying Bolden is a true freshman, and really looked like one. He forced way too many throws and couldn’t read a blitz to save his life. He took way too many sacks, etc.
McGloin’s stats while they look craptastic with the pick sixes, did a much better job of running the offense, avoiding the rush, etc. Did he make some poor decisions, yes. Does he lock on his WR early, god yes. He got everyone motivated to play, Bolden didn’t.
All of this leads me to Paul Jones. He was red shirted to focus on his grades. Sto-Rox the high school he came from is known to have some crap academics, so instead of throwing him to the fire Joe gave his a season off. From Joe’s mouth and a web video interview from Busch Gardens with PJ, it seems he is ready. He’s got the leadership, the big arm, etc.
McLovin?

its the SEC
They led the conferences w. players waived. Each team has only 25 scholarships to offer every year. Yet teams in the SeC leads the nations w. players that are waived from the scholarships because they bring in over 25 players every year. LSU and Ole Miss leads w. the list. So they tend to cut players that don’t make their “cuts” routinely.

oh and CS
he looks exactly like a Pats OLB just needs to gain some strength. He is 6’3 with long arms, I saw him drop into coverage, played well against the run (the announcers pointed out they almost never ran at him, and when they did, he blew it up) and was getting a successful pass rush from the outside and stunted inside a couple times. No character issues, is an award winning LB. Him and Cunningham could be very good together. His only problem is his size, but if he will always win the matchup against a TE, and is faster than any OLB that I know, so he beats tackles off the edge or spins inwards. He’s like a 3-4 version of Freeney. As long as he bulks, he would be a great addition.
Unfortunately, most want Carimi, Watt, Heyward and Miler, and we will only have the chance to draft one.

This is his "7 one-and-dones in his postseason career" face
In order for him to match Tom Brady’s CURRENT postseason wins (14) and Super Bowls (3) he needs to make the playoffs 2 times and win 2 Super Bowls. If he goes 3-0 and 3-0, he will be 15-10 with Super Bowls. If Brady wins this upcoming weekend, he will be 15-4 with 3 Super Bowls lol. Got a lot of catching up to do Mr. Manning hahaha

Sounds like sour grapes
especially from Ladainian “the Pats are classless” Tomlinson. Shutting them up (again) will make this season so much sweeter. Beat the Jets. Beat the Ravens (revenge for last year), and then win the Super Bowl over the Falcons in a blowout that (kind of) makes up for the dud in 2007. Would be the perfect end to a season of exceptional play and the return of the Patriots Way
So yeah just played Madden (the ultimate predictor)

This is interesting
Steve Burton was interviewing Kevin Faulk about the Patriots season and asked his thoughts about Randy Moss. Faulk burst into tears and almost couldn’t continue the interview. He said he and most of the rest of the team were close with Randy. He also said he could see Moss back with the Patriots next year. But most interesting of all was that he said he believes Moss can still play at an elite level — he was adamant about that.

It's sad that there aren't that many WWII Vets left in the US anymore :(
Movies and TV shows can’t really convey what they went through and I fear this current generation (18 and under) don’t really comprehend what was sacrificed for them and what all those words tossed around by political figures and media pundits really means. We cheapen words such as nazi and communist every day. I’m sure this has been said for about 50 years though… and it’d be nice if the older generations (baby boomers) could give a little more respect, in general, to the people serving now and the emotional damage that the current generation is sustaining at their hands because of war, mass media and one of the worst recessions in 80 years. To sum up, with a phrase from my generation, generational enmity and ignorance sucks. :P
Is anyone else
Very Very interested in that fairly kid from auburn? I dont know anything about him other than he is an absolute monster, and i think would look quite nice on the right side of the pats d-line…

Since this is JAT
I’d like to hope that the flooding in Australia subsides and that somebody steps up to get people the hell out of the way! I’m tired of seeing reports about towns being swept away and masses of people dying. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been affected by my share of disasters, I understand nature can be a real bitch sometimes. But I feel that there should be some damn system in place to make people completely aware of what the hell is going on. It bothers me even more since it appears this has happened before and the only thing that appears to have changed is that a major city got a dam. It’s not right.. it’s just not right. That said, I’m hopeful that they find the missing in Toowoomba and that someone will step up and do something. I know there are those that just refuse to move (i’m looking at you Chernobyl residents who went BACK) or that are too ignorant to understand the gravity of the situation (I’m looking at you Mayor of New Orleans, National Guard director and many Katrina victims who didn’t get the hell out with a 4 day warning), but something should be done. It’s not like Australia is a third world country (like Pakistan or Haiti).
Oh.. and I’m issuing a quick kudo point to the general framework of stupid US charities for not setting up a fund or something for this. Don’t get me wrong, I’m cool with charities (most of them.. united way, red cross, you can burn) but the US has a myriad of problems it needs to get in check before it starts handing out cash in the billions to random countries every 2 months. There’s 10% unemployment, we’re stuck in two wars that have dragged on longer than M.A.S.H. did, the national debt is ridiculous, New Orleans is still pretty rough, and there’s towns on the Mexican border in the throes of a gang war that apparently no one gives a damn about except the 3000 or so people killed the past few years there. And let’s face it, we all know what happens if that charity starts up. The country gets sent canned food, toys and money by the bucket for 2 months and then.. once every QVC or Pat Robertson watching loser thinks their conscience is filled up for the year… everything dries up just like nothing ever happened. It’s stupid.

Interesting thought..
I took me a good year or more to figure out wtf people meant by “It’s got a qwerty”. The phrase kinda boggled my mind until I realized standard keyboard layout. I hadn’t thought about it for years because my typing skills are pretty solid that it’s just second hand. Either way, I hate that phrase. It’s a keyboard, I don’t care if it’s on your phone or on it’s own. If it’s not, it’s a number pad. :P
I wonder...
“if it’s got a QWERTY”, does it also have a “ASDFGH”? Or a “ZXCVBN”?

A starter in 25 of the last 26 games, the highly-skilled, intelligent and physical student-athlete is poised to lead an O-Line unit that will have two new starters and returnees in new positions. Selected a 2010 first-team preseason All-American by Athlon, Lindy’s, Sporting News and Phil Steele’s College Football Previews, Wisniewski was a 2009 third-team All-America honoree by Collegefootballnews.com…
Owner of a superlative 3.92 grade-point average, the squad’s highest mark, through the spring semester, Wisniewski will have an opportunity in 2010 to become Penn State’s first three-time Academic All-American®.
Heyward and some O-linemen (Right Guards and Centers) being scouted?

And with family in the NFL.
His father was a standout defensive lineman for the Lions, lettering from 1979-81 and serving as a tri-captain in 1981. He was selected by the Baltimore Colts in the second round of the 1982 NFL Draft and played four seasons with Baltimore/Indianapolis. An uncle, Steve Wisniewski, was a two-time first-team All-America guard during his Penn State career (1985-88) and was selected All-Pro eight times in his 13 years with the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders.

wow....idiot fans
Philadelphia sports fans always claim they get a bad rap. Sure, they can be boorish. But so are fans in New York and Boston!
Eagles fans got so upset Sunday about their unfair stereotype that they had to take it out on something, like the car of a Packers fan.
A Wisconsin native that now works in Pennsylvania as a college professor attended the Eagles-Packers game with his father. His Toyota Camry was "stomped on, kicked and beaten." Mirrors were broken, wipers torn out, and dents made on the hood, trunk, and roof.
"When I left Green Bay everyone said to be careful — the Philadelphia fans have a reputation," Peter Coenen (the father) told the Morning Call of Lehigh Valley. "My son had a Green Bay Packers shirt on. As we drove in, they gave us the finger."
Oh, we didn’t realize the guy had a Packers shirt on. Dude was asking for it.

ok....
B to to Bold a certain word in a comment or the entire comment.
example : Brady has not thrown an interception since week 5
" I " icon is to italic a word in a comment or the entire comment
Example : Brady 36 TD 4 INT
the “S” button is to strike a word out in a conversation.
For Example.
I love hate the jets
The quote icon is to quote someone….
example- Most the quote….then select the entire quote and click on the quote button.
If you want to comment on the quote…click enter and type what you want to say.
The Link button (one to the right of the Quote button) is to link an article to the conversation box.
Example- Brady is the most efficient QB in the NFL right now.
(Now you can select the entire comment or a certain word and click on the link icon….a window will show up….you can then insert a website link to it….then click on the little box that says " SUBMIT")
The picture icon is to insert a pick from a website or a URL.
You have to use it in the bigger box…then click on the pic button, select the picture you can to insert from a certain website….click ok…then press the post button

I want it to freaking work for me lol
Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on.
That did't work
Just put a hyphen directly before or after, or use the strikethrough button. The S with the line through it.
I think what you might have done is left the code open
You might not have had the end tags for the strikethrough
I just push the hyphen on both sides
not like this lol
Well it dislikes me

I am using the strike though button
and it is failing me
Look it works for me

I'm not sure if PATs and FGs count for those rankings
I had a feeling it was just coverage and returns – basically anything that can get yards either for or against. I’d have to check.
Most kickers/punters have a fairly similar average, or else they’d be unemployed quickly.

man...i love Crum daddy
There are 2 things that stood out to me in the presser. First, when asked about the development of Rob and Aaron, he says he’s really proud of “His guys”. He takes total ownership of his teaching role on this team and he seems to take it very seriously. Secondly, he was asked about playing for BB and how it’s different from the other places he played. He said he really appreciate the opportunity BB has given him and the professionalism he conducts himself with. He also said that he wished he could have been here earlier in his career.
He could have taken pot-shots at his old team, a-la LaToya (Mr Classy), but instead was his humble self and was just happy to be here and have this chance to win something.

It is a one year contract, right? If so, then he should definitely come back. Sadly this is common
Work at a gas station some time, it happens about once every 2 months.
Dumbest customer I’ve ever had, when I worked at a gas station, was a lady who left her car on, put the pump handle in, locked the little handle down and got back in the car. She got out a few seconds later to see gas pouring all over the ground. She came in, bitched us out for getting gas on her car, so we went out to look. Come to find out the idiot was trying to pump gas into a full tank. It even said so on her damn gauge. She pumped $14 of gas (at the time, about 5 1/2 gallons) on the ground and then had the audacity to demand her $14 back :P

not only can we win, we should beat these clowns. They have Tom Brady and a bunch of high schoolers!! Every time i think about the fact that we lost by 42 to these cocksuckers I just wanna throw up. Beside Brady I can’t think of one player on their team worth mentioning. Who is their running back? Ben Jarvus Green Ellis?? Danny Fuckin Woodhead? Goddamn Wes Welker the scrawny piece of shit that he is is a threat? 45 year old deion branch we cant stop him? A couple of rookie tight ends?? Fernandez or Hernandez or Martiniez or whatever the fuck is name is and Gronkowski? What about their defense?? Goddamn rookies left and right! Honestly the only way the Jets dont win this game is if they played like a bunch of scared pussies like last time, because its all mental. The jets are way more fuckin talented, but they were a bunch vadges in that MNF game from the word goddamn go. Now let’s start believing were better than these dickless chowderheads, and we’ll win the fuckin game!

Brady's response
“I’ve been called worse,” Brady said. "I’m sure there is a long list of people that feel that way.
“But he’s a good player. [Darrelle] Revis is a great player. They have a great secondary. They’re one of the best defenses we’ve faced. We spend a lot of time preparing for them, and what they’re capable of doing over there. To shut down the Colts’ offense like they did is pretty impressive, because we know how good that offense is. We’re going to be ready to play.”

How good is this guy?
Cromartie “insults” him, and Brady responds by praising him.

There is always the possibility that Vick will let the success, and the money, go to his head. On Monday he called himself the “co-MVP” of the NFL, which either shows a troubling disconnect with reality or just how much that award meant to him. Vick lost any shot at the MVP in Week 16 against Minnesota.

She does not represent Alaskans by any means.

If he thinks we’ve crossed the line, by all means, let him point it out. But lurking and then whinging about it afterwards elsewhere… eh. Weak.

Yeah.. you can trace his postings back a long ways and not a damn one has been beneficial, intelligent or with any tact
He’s kinda like that bitter old guy on the corner that turns his light on at halloween just to tell kids he DOESN’T have candy.. just to see the disappointment in their faces.
Though he says he doesn’t read our blog so this should stay safe right? :P
That's a lie then...
because he’s commented on a number of articles on this site during December Jets week…and like you said, none were of any substance.
I don't think so. Homey don't play dat.
yep
No matter how bad your defense is…
It’s still your defense.
by James Calvin on Dec 6, 2010 4:39 PM EST
Would you rather have a young defense that’s last in the AFC….
… and second worst in the NFL, or an experienced defense that’s in the top 3?
Just curious.
by James Calvin on Dec 4, 2010 12:06 PM EST
They weren’t playing a defense coached by a person named Ryan
in the last three games either.
Against the two "Ryan’’ teams they have been outscored 54-28. Very similar defenses too.
I’m just saying you can cherry pick whatever stats make you feel good (like I just did) -that’s fine…. but it doesn’t have any bearing on Monday’s game.
by James Calvin on Dec 4, 2010 9:35 PM EST
Leading the worst defense in the AFC?
Okay.
by James Calvin
I think excuses are for losers.
My favorite one lately is the Jets beat the Pats because the Pats had Randy Moss.
