AFC East Standings: Bills, Pats Tied For First
An updated look at the AFC East standings after four weeks of the 2011 NFL season:
1-T: Buffalo Bills (3-1): The Bills are coming off of a disappointing last second loss to the Bengals, a game in which they held a 17-3 halftime lead. However, the team is still tied with the Patriots for first place and currently hold the edge in head-to-head and divisional record tie-breakers. The Bills will host the Eagles in week five.
1-T: New England Patriots (3-1): After a demoralizing loss to the Bills, a game in which the team held a 21 point first half lead, the Patriots came back with a blowout victory over the Oakland Raiders. The team still has question marks on the defensive side of the ball, and will host the Jets next week in a key early season divisional match-up.
3. New York Jets (2-2): The Jets are now coming off back-to-back losses to the Oakland Raiders and the Baltimore Ravens, respectively. While the Jets defense really responded against the Ravens, their offense was simply terrible. With a difficult game on the road against New England this week, the Jets are in serious danger of dropping below .500.
4. Miami Dolphins (0-4): Another week, another loss for the winless Dolphins. This time, the Dolphins dropped a 26-16 game to the Chargers - a game that saw starting quarterback Chad Henne go down with a shoulder injury. Luckily for the Dolphins, they have a bye week to help themselves recuperate.

The Dolphins look like they have solid chance to win the Luck sweepstakes

My money is still on Indianapolis.
Luck will be a better fit for them, anyway.

Well, Greg does mention that in the Bills' paragraph.
On another note, if the Dolphins do have such a terrible season that they acquire the first overall pick, and with that pick draft Andrew Luck, this division would get much more interesting.
It matters not how strait the gate, nor charged with punishments the scroll:
I am the Master of my fate. I am the Captain of my soul.

Still think Buffalo’s earned top billing, so do it.
I haven’t considered Luck in Miami. That really is worth watching because apparently that team is god-awful.
buffalo has earned top billing ?
after 4 games ??? give me a break he said they had the tie breaker thats enough top billing.
is the season over ?
if the bills go on a 6 game losing streak does that 1-0 in division or 1-0 h2h matter? the bills are in first in early october they have played good so far but it is a little too early to be handing out division titles.
@SSiewar
Maybe they can swing a trade with jets for “Taco-Boy”….I mean Henne isnt there answer nor is there Coach..Miami dug a deep deep hole!!!!!
But come on BIGRUSS..Luck is no C Newton either….I dont see LUCK having much success..if He does have any He needs to play for a TEAm that has ALL aspects covered..OL—Def,,Special teams..and a Coaching STAFF…Maybe Miami can Hire mangini!!!!
Henne's better than Sanchez.

Is it good or bad that the Jets have been spanked twice
before they visit us? Good teams bounce back. We will find out. One thing is for sure, you can run on this Jets team, and I believe we will.
Big story is will Mangold be back? He gives them a lot of stability on the O-line. Also, how big of a loss is Mayo? He’s great, but I can see the other guys stepping up. Spikes had his best game at Oakland, and played with intensity. Guyton held up well too. More opportunities for Fletcher.
I do find it hard to imagine the Jets losing 3 games in a row.
However, I also feel the Patriots are very capable of making it happen.

They may be angry at losing 2 str8 coming in, but i know TFB and co. recall what happened in that playoff game as
well.

From a motivational standpoint I think it helps the Jets
Otherwise, you would have had the motivational edge with wanting revenge for the playoff game. Personally, I think the Jets match up better against the Pats than they did against the Ravens. Clearly, a physical, pass-rushing defense completely threw us off our game. I think we will do much better against the Pats considering your defensive problems. The question will be can we get our offense on track and can we do enough to at least slow down Brady so we have more points on the board at the end of the day..

You guys aren't exactly a great defensive unit either.
I think we will do much better against the Pats considering your defensive problems.

Our run defense has certainly been better
But we’re almost at the top of pass defense which is your bread and butter. I’m not dissing the Pats, I’m just saying I think we match up better against you than we do against a team like the Ravens.

I agree. The Ravens are beastly. I also noticed that the Jets rushing stats are startling:
Defense: 6th in rushing yards allowed at 130.5ypg…………..http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/sortableStatsTeam?div=NFL&sortType=defense&table=overall&stat=overallRushYpg&dir=ascending
Offense: 30th in rushing offense per game at 71ypg…………http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/sortableStatsTeam?div=NFL&sortType=offense&table=rushing&stat=rushYdsGm&dir=descending&seasonState=regular

I know, I know.
The rushing stats on offense and defense are totally uncharacteristic for the Jets after the last two years.

Bizarre isn't the first word that comes to mind.
Most returns for TDs in a game ever. How’s that for a weird record.

Key injuries to watch in the Jets game
DT- Haynesworth
CB- Ras-I Dowling
If Mangold isn’t playing and Haynesworth does- it could be a long day for the interior o-line for the jets. Ras-I Dowling will be on Burress like glue if he can play. Let’s hope that McCourty can shut down a receiver that is actually his size- good to watch if he can.
Arizona Diamondbacks: 94-67 NL West Champs
New England Patriots: 2-1
Bodden too
He has good size and although he has not been superlative this year, i expect him to be a solid contributor going forward.
Just started watching the Raiders game, and I will say this for Mccourty, he husltes, and he tackles well(took down Mcfadden from behind, at the line of scrimmage on one play). That part of his game appears alive and well.
Yeah I would agree with that.
McCourty has not struggled with his run protections. He has been very physical and sure handed at his tackling.
He was just getting beaten off the line.
Looked like he just couldn’t get a hand on the receivers at the snap, and was having to chase down the field. More zone should help that.

Very positive win
Going to Oakland and winning was a tough assignment. The Jets game is really big but the schedule is very favorable in the last 5 weeks. We won without Brady carrying the whole load.
i wish the jets werent coming off 2 losses
but i think the playoff loss stings enough to motivate the pats to victory. they need to start getting some injured players back. bodden dowling and haynesworth on defense and maybe hernadez hopefully.
Blowout?
How could anyone term that game a blowout? Was I the only one heaving a sigh of relief when the game ended?
It was 31-13 with the ball on the 1 and 2 minutes to go.
As long as the Pats didn’t give up a 99 yard play, the game was done. If they did, the Raiders still needed to recover an onside kick and then score again. And then recover an onside kick and score again. The game was over with the Wilfork pick.

I will agree that no lead is safe with this defense
but the Raiders game didn’t worry me overly much as the game wore on. The defense showed signs of being…opportunistic, if not solid. (Definitely not solid).

Blowout is a strong word
but 31-13 late in the 4th is..well a blowout. At least on the scoreboard. The pivotal moment came with the Chung INT. The Raiders could have gone up 17-14, or made it 13-14 with a field goal. Instead pick and field goal, 17-10 Pats. Then second half drive for Td and 24-10. Game was over there, although it didn’t seem like it. Seemed like the Raiders were moving the ball very well and were a threat to get back in the game. The reality is they scored 3 in the second half, other than a meaningless TD with .28 seconds left, and we scored 14 when it counted. The second half was a blowout.
How in the world can you say the Jets offense looked "simply terrible?"
It was actually far worse than that. I would have said disgustingly deplorable or nauseatingly incompetent. Other than that, good write up.

Extremely Big game
With win Tie Breakers: 1-0 vs Jets, 4-1 in AFC, 2-1 in division. 3 away games already done including longest trip and difficult opponent Oakland [possible wild card opponent]. With a win this will be an exceptionally fine start; we are just used to 10-0. Pass rush still the biggest problem, I think.
