Let me start off by saying that maybe people would come to their senses after a day or two, but screw it. I'm making this post now.
Go ahead and vent. Its good for you! But before you do, let me point out the irrationality of our current predicaments.
After the Browns game last year, most of us pegged that game a trap game. So afterwards, we all kind of blew it over, and after the Pitt game last year, we were all restored mentally.
This game we did not peg as a trap game. We were coming off a bye, which we haven't lost a game after the bye week for a long time, going against a team that Brady and Co. usually have great success against. Well we lost... big time.
Morally... it seemed unnatural. The blame can be spread around, but overall it was a big, team loss. Like I said, I am completely fine with venting. Let me do the opposite.
I'm an optimistic type of guy. The Pats sit at 5-2, and is a top 5 team in the AFC. We are so used to being the #1 team, or at the very least the #2 team. But now just a top 5? What the hell! Of course there must be someone we can blame for those two losses right? Its the defense!.. or Offense.. or coaching!!..... wait I'm just naming the 3 important things.... So what, or who, can we blame? I know we would mostly blame the defense. hell I know they are average at best, and some would disagree with me on that. But imo they are doing fine. Last year the defense was getting turnovers, but it seems this year the emphasis was on sacks more than turnovers.
Unfortunately, our defense is not perfect. While our offense is excellent 95% of the time, our defense remains inconsistent. Or I should say consistently average-below average. Our passing defense, while I don't mind that they give up yards, I DO mind that they give up 3rd downs, which we MUST get better on. We seem to get people in 3rd down situations, but they extend the drive more often than not. Its frustrating to watch. But overall I want to say that we have a GREAT team that I'm sure most teams in the NFL would love to be us.
Is the sky really falling? It certainly seems that way. I mean, I know we are 5-2, and we have a great offense, and the defense can be argued about. But most important, we are a top 5 TEAM in the nfl. and it takes TEAMS to win games, and championships. I'm pretty confident in saying we will be in the playoffs, and when the happens the best TEAM will win those game. By this season's end, and we are sitting at 14-2, or 13-3, or even 12-4 at the least, we will be there, and I wouldn't bet our season on today's performance. Overall, I'd say we are in good shape. Get a win next week, and take it one step at a time. Let's hope this goes the way we want it to.
