If you could steal one player from the Jets..
I know, I know. With every ounce of our beings, most of us would agree that we would never want to root for some of the star players of the Jets. Their brash antics are everything that the hoodie does not stand for.
Yet I think it would be a little fun to speculate, if we could steal one player from the Jets, who would it be? You can take this question however you'd like, factoring age into the equation or no. Let's take a look at my top candidates.
- Darrelle Revis, CB - While he may be the source of much frustration, and the Patriots may have a stable of talented CBs already, there is no doubt that Revis is one of the best at his position. I didn't choose him because I don't believe CB is the problem with our defense and Revis alone would not be able to solve things. However, I could understand anyone who wanted to make the case for him
- Santonio Holmes, WR - Holmes has big play ability and always seems to come up in the biggest situations. He may have more swagger than Pats fans would like, but if we can tolerate Ocho on the team with his little production (To be fair, I am a believer in Ocho and think he'll pick it up) then I'm sure we could deal with Holmes, who no doubt would be amazingly productive with TB throwing him the ball and Wes/Gronk/Herndo already occupying the defense.
- Nick Mangold, C - Not the sexy option, but this is where I think I'm leaning. The offense runs through the line, and Mangold is one of the top three, if not the best center in the game. While I love Connelly, Mangold could be a rock at center for us for a while.
- Calvin Pace, ROLB - A playmaker on defense, Pace usually gets 6-8 sacks a year and a handful of forced fumbles. He isn't the tackle machine that Mayo is and I can't honestly say I know how he plays in coverage (he only has 2 career INTs) but I think he'd be a valuable member of our LB core.

How about Sexy Rexy running the Defense as an option?
by Brady's Revenge on Oct 7, 2011 12:51 PM EDT reply actions
Belichick is far better defensively than Rex Ryan in my opinion.
It’s just that the Pats defense, other than a few exceptions, is really lacking talent. The Jets have talent across the board.
It matters not how strait the gate, nor charged with punishments the scroll:
I am the Master of my fate. I am the Captain of my soul.
Uhhhh
Vince Wilfork, Jerod Mayo, Albert Haynesworth, Brandon Spikes, Devin McCourty, Leigh Bodden, Gerard Warren, Shaun Ellis, Rob Ninkovich, Mike Wright and Ras-I Dowling would all beg to differ about the defense “really lacking talent.” They’re only really thin on talent at safety.
I think the defensive coaching staff could use a boost. The talent is there; something is just not clicking.
I said other than a few exceptions.
My exceptions are Wilfork, Mayo, Haynesworth and McCourty. Spikes is good, but isn’t recognized by most teams as someone to keep an eye on, and has only played in 15 games in his career. Bodden used to be quite good, but has been injured this year and hasn’t really produced anything. Gerard Warren is a shell of his former self, and albeit he’s performed fairly well, he is just a rotational player. Ellis hasn’t done much at all this season, and has been abused on some plays by lesser O-linemen. Ninkovich is solid, and has some games where he’s on fire, but he’s not a very good player, at least not yet. Mike Wright can’t seem to stay on the field, so although he’s very good while playing, he misses almost as many games as he plays. And Ras-I has been one of my favorite players since he was very young at Virginia, and I hoped the Pats would draft him, but he has yet to see significant playing time due to injuries. Until he can stay on the field, his talent is doing nothing to help the team. Now, I’m not knocking any of these guys and saying the Pats should get rid of them, but you get my point.
Also, I would include Chung in the talented player on D.

I disagree about Spikes
I think he is recognized by other teams. He’s very physical, and effective against the run.
Keep the faith!
Gotta go Revis
Best in the game at his position, and of the options listed only he and Mangold are really in that conversation. Since our O-line is already very good, and our pass D is struggling, I’m going for the DB.
Deep in enemy territory
Then how do you explain being last in passing yards given up?
I think your secondary could definitely use help.

It doesn't matter how good your DBs are
if the receivers have an hour to get open.

Fair point

We have an anemic pass rush too.
We’re sixth in pass defense don’t think that’s good enough of an argument. Your secondary isn’t very good.
This is pretty much what I was thinking
The pass rush gets close a lot. They haven’t been able to cover anybody.
Deep in enemy territory
As long as they make holding legal for the rest of his career
They made the rule to stop the Patsfrom bumping after 5yds – or should I say Polian did – Revis gets away with it because he’s apparently a “star”.
If the league eventually cracks down on him, unlikely due to the commish’s past affiliation with the jets organization, he’s no longer an “island”. Just another excellent tall fast CB athlete that will make the occasional play.

All that is true
But he’s still better than any DB we have. So, yeah. He’s the one I would steal.
Deep in enemy territory
My pick would be Danny Woodhead.
Oh wait! We already have him.
Then I’d say Revis.

Is that even a question
Revis Island no brainer? If we had Revis we could do exactly what the Jets D does.
Taylor Price will be the starter by the end of the season (Said before Training Camp)
Sanchez no doubt!!
We could use an additional mascot. This one doesn’t require a mask!
In GOD I TRUST>In BB i trust......faith where it belongs!!
Life is about who makes it, not who makes it the fastest! Drive slow homie.
ya ripped off my thunder
I also wanted to say Sanchez. Word is our latrines need a good spit shine.
Seriously; Revis. Why was this question even posed?
Revis and it ain't even close...
Though it’d be nice to get pinata Sanchez too.
Pedey: Dear Playstation, So MLB the Show '09 says I can't hit the high and inside, huh? That's ridiculous, ask Ramon.
Ramon: Yeah, he can hit it. In fact, if I were to die today and went to some weird...(grabs script) some weird limbo afterlife, where I can gaze at one thing for eternity. Dustin's swing, or my daggers? (DAUGHTERS!) daughter's first steps, I would choose that swing.
Lazer Show: I can hit that pitch!

Revis would make me rather excited
Revis and Ngata. Then relax.

Anyone saying someone not called Revis or Mangold is mad.

Mangold is great
But Revis is definitely the #1 talent on the team. No question.

Honestly its close
I literally cant remember Mangold ever messing up. Revis barely screws up to. Both are definitely the best at their position in the league.

Mangold also Identifies the D
He’s the one who identifies the Mike LB 90% of the time and controls the Oline protection. he also helps Sanchez call the plays sometimes
And That Is a JET FIRST DOWN!!!
No This is Patrick...

That doesn't seem to bode well for Sanchez.

True points about Mangold
But I think Mangold is extremely important to the Jets as he helps Sanchez identify defenses which Brady doesn’t need. Revis has the ability to take any team’s best receiver (no matter how good) completely out of the game. That frees up the rest of the secondary and makes them better at covering everyone else.

If I could steal one person from the Jets...
it would probably be Meredith from the flight crew.
