For all of the heat that the Patriots took for their defensive performance against the Steelers, the Patriots have come out and put together a really solid defensive first quarter against the Giants, allowing just three first downs and 59 total yards.
Unfortunately, the Patriots haven't exactly capitalized on the offensive side of the ball to this point. The team managed just one first down in its first two drives.
However, through a commitment to the ground and occasionally using the play action, the Patriots ended the first quarter threatening the Giants, with the ball currently on the 29 yard line.
Standouts so far include BenJarvus Green-Ellis for the offense, who has picked up 33 yards on six carries. Defensively, Brandon Spikes is blowing up running plays and had a huge hit on a third down that forced the Giants to punt.
