People say we're the worst D in the NFL. People also say we're not in the same class as the Packers, Saints, etc, and this is why.
In 2007 we would have gone out in "middle finger mode," showing the world they were wrong and that we weren't going to take our foot off the Colts throat no matter how bad they were or how high the score was. At the end of the day the score would have been something like 52-7, or, perhaps, 45-3. Instead what do we have?
90 yards in 1 minute to the worst offense in the NFL, and get outscored in the 4th quarter 21-0 by a winless team. No matter how the rest of the game went, that was a disgrace.
Even last year, I remember Wilfork, Branch etc talking about how they wanted to have a complete, 60-minute performance by all sides of the ball. What happened to this attitude?
"Content" is an awful word. It means that you accept what you are, and reject the concept that you can do better. Being "content" is a sign that you lack ambition, lack desire, and lack heart. Really, it could be seen as a lack of love for the game.
Resting your starters means your content with the #1 seed.
Going for 16-0 is a sign of true love for the game, as well as a great big "f*** you" of those who say you can't. I was always proud that my team was the one who choose 16-0.
So there. Those are my thoughts, which I usually only post after a loss. Don't read too much into this as I am happy for the win and don't want to seem like a spoiled, whiny idiot, but I would have enjoyed that game so much more if we hadn't given up. I just hope we can move forward and realize what an awful mistake we made and see to it that it doesn't happen again.
All we have to do is remove any prevent, whether it be offense or defense, from the playbook, which shouldn't be too hard. At least we're not the Redskins.
