Quick stupid thought

So, I keep hearing that we need a DE, but I know we should get back Ty Warren, Mike Wright and Ron Brace. After that I hear we need an OLB. I'm not worried about this because I think Cunningham will progrees, and we have Banta-Cain. Then I hear we need offensive line help. This I agree with, since we could potentially lose Neal, Light, and Mankins this year. And that's the part of our team that seems to fall apart in the playoffs. But I think this is not my point, and I think that we can pick up Line help in addition to what I'm about to propose. My concern is explosive players that would have helped us defend the so called "cloud defense" that the Jets played against us in the playoffs this year. To that issue I propose the following...I keep hearing that Larry Fitzgerald is being shopped in Arizona. Why would we not try to throw a first at him? Maybe even a first and a fourth? Please comment.

OK first of all

Banta-Cain sux. So we need the replacement there. At DE we have depth but no real talent across from Warren, so need help there. O-line needs help for depth and interior talent. WE want to trade for fitzy, but don’t know what the price is. i’d pay a first but nothing more, simply because we have depth at WR, fitz would be luxury. If we had Fitz though, it is like a randy Moss willing to run crossing routes. 2007 O here we come with BJGE replacing DDR.

I would rather have 3 Super Bowls in my career, passing records, a hot wife, 500 million dollars and get to play football every day then be a 300lb man with foot fetish videos. Apparently, most Jets fans would disagree.

Just imagine what 2007 would have been like with a run game?

Gives you something to do when the Giants are all about pass rush in the Super Bowl.

I can only hope

that IF we get Fitz somehow, that we dont revert to a pass pass pass run pass pass pass type offense. :(

I’ll take 11 players with heart on the field over 11 guys with just talent. Talent is fleeting, it goes away over time. Heart is what drives you to be better. To push yourself beyond what you think your capabilities are. To show us that when you strive, all things are possible.- SMP

Thank you, thank you, thank you

More Run, Less Pass.

Fitz is great, absolutely but lets please go OL, DL and RB, not necessarily in that order.

My feeling is we need to be able to do both - at will.

Sure lean on the pass against teams that are porous in the secondary, but stout against the run.

Lean on the run against teams with tissue paper front 7, but a secondary full of ball hawks.

Eventually, though, you HAVE to be able to run and pass.
3rd and 21 when you’re behind 7 points late in the fourth isn’t a run play. You have to be able to make a pass play.
4th and 2 at the goal when you’re behind 7 points late in the fourth shouldn’t be a pass play. You should be able to pound that one in.

There are times and places for both. There are situations that cater to heavy doses of either. No matter the situation, we have to be able to do what we want – not just what we can.

no way

you can never have too many linebackers and defense linemen, I think we all know that after this year. Protect Brady first then worry about the defense.

I doubt Larry Fitzgerald is being actively shopped...

because he says he wants to stay, and he has a non-trade clause in his contract with the Cardinals.

Basically, they’re not allowed to trade him without his consent, and he says he wants to stay. So it doesn’t seem likely to me – more likely they’d trade for a QB to go with him.

They have talent on that Cardinals team. Just not at QB.

Maybe they go after Kevin Kolb. Or draft a QB. I don’t think they’ll just give up on a 27 year old stud WR.

They had some good players...

they just preferred to let them walk when they wanted the money to reflect their ability. Kyle Vanden Bosch, Adrian Wilson, Anquan Boldin, Larry Fitzgerald, Karlos Dansby, Darnell Dockett, Steve Breaston, Calvin Pace, Antrelle Rolle, Domonique Rodgers-Cromartie…

Who of those guys left as soon as they hit free agency? Vanden Bosch, Boldin, Dansby, Dockett, Pace, Rolle…

makes sense they have the bird logo/name

fly away birdie is what they seem to say to their FA’s.

He's also not the player that Fitz is.

I’d take Ocho this season for a 4th. Fitz could demand 2 1sts, but he won’t leave Az.

Fitz will go for a single first round pick.

Fitz is like milk, he has a “must sell by” date on him as he is a free agent next year with a “can not franchize” clause in his contract. Shop him now and get something for him or watch him walk away in 12 months for nothing. It’s not likely the Cards are competing for anything in 2011 and fitz ain’t staying around why they search for/develope a quarterback. Fitz says he wants to stay to show everyone in the league what a team guy he is. He has a no trade clause so he doesn’t gt shipped to Carolina, not to stay indefinately in AZ. Fitz want’s to win and will go where he has the best chance to do so.

by SteveSteve on Feb 6, 2011 2:35 AM EST reply actions

He's also got a 'can not trade' clause

And he says he wants to stay. He’d have to waive the ‘no trade’ clause himself, and if he legitimately wants to stay there’s nothing Arizona can do.

They can’t shop him without his permission, and it doesn’t sound like that permission is forthcoming – especially since the Cardinals draft position means they have a fair crack at a decent QB.

Correct me if I am wrong

But the No Trade clause is on a trade by trade basis. If the Cards want to trade him to Carolina, he can say “no way”. But if they want to trade him to Indy and he thinks it would be great to catch for Peyton, he can say ok, waive the clause, trade me to Indy. He doesn’t need to carte blanch waive the clause and see who he ends up with later.

So Fitz is going to say all the right things. Be a company man. He’s smart. He doesn’t need to do anything different because he holds all the cards… no franchise tag, no trade, one year left… but if the right situation opens up… NE, Indy, San Diego, to play with an elite QB… he’ll go. And the Cards will be more than interested in making it happen because unless they hit it dead on this spring with a QB, Fitz is out of there come 2012.

And lets face it, there doesn’t look to be a single QB in the draft that is going to step in and start. Maybe if AZ had a shot a Luck, but these guys are going to take a few years to develope and Fitz wants to win, not be pushing 30 by the time his team has a shot at winning the West again, let alone the whole chebang.

by SteveSteve on Feb 6, 2011 4:29 AM EST reply actions

I'm not sure how it's constructed...

but I know he’s said in public that he wants to stay in Arizona because he’s happy there. Even with a carousel of sub-standard QBs in 2010 he put up 90 receptions, 1,137 yards and 6 TDs, so he’s not doing his free agency value any damage – in fact, he’s probably doing it a lot of good, by putting up elite numbers with non-elite support.

The danger about him wanting to be traded to a good team is that he’d just become a cog in a well-oiled machine – he wouldn’t stand out in his contract year. And then there’s the chemistry issue; he risks going down the Randy Moss path in being a non-performer (Vikings), or an overtalented backup (Tennessee) because he doesn’t immediately click in the new environment.

And lets face it, there doesn’t look to be a single QB in the draft that is going to step in and start.

True. But that’s not how the Cardinals became relevant; instead it was Kurt Warner. Are there vet QBs the Cardinals could make a play for that could potentially help them? Most likely. There are also some backups they could make a play for – if I were the Cards, I might dangle a second-round draft pick at Green Bay to try to get Matt Flynn. Flynn was effective in a team with a questionable run game (fits with the Cards), worked well with good-to-elite WRs (Breaston and Fitz ~ Jennings and Driver).

he's a FA next year anyways

if the cards have crappy QB’s again this year he may choose to go to another team with a QB who can get him the ball

and just in case you’re wondering, he has a clause in his contract that says he cant be franchised

O-line VS D-Line.....

Agreed Cameron O….TBC is a waste, putting money into him….is a waste.
Never liked him much, and he’s also had questionable off the field issues in the past that I’m surprised he was even brought back…..he should have stayed gone IMO.
A playmaking OLB is needed. Also, not having a playmaking DE makes the work on the linbacking core that much harder…….

Too much shifting is and has been going on. Stability at certain positions is crucial. having/filling in is alway’s a good thing, but it need’s to get alot more stable before it will get better.

and R. Hill Mankin’s is worth more to us than Fitz would ever be, never mind adding in #60 in with it.
