The past two decades the Patriots have had the classic stay in the pocket, shuffle their feet to avoid pressure throw it QB, starting with Drew Bledsoe and eventually ending with Tom Brady. With how defenses are structured to pressure the QB and force him to make quick decisions, the landscape of the pure pocket passing QB has been replaced with the elusive, running, and stretch the play out QB. Even though Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are considered 1 and 1A when speaking of elite QB’s, it is the new up and coming QB’s that posses something that they do not have, the ability to make a play with their feet or plain and simple the ability to run. When Tom finally hangs up his cleats, would you rather someone in the mold of an Aaron Rodgers or Big Ben mold or would you rather stay with the classic pure pocket passer that the Patriots have had for years?
