Last straw for Meriweather? If so, what next?
According to media and police reports, Brandon Meriweather may be in real trouble. Even if he avoids legal problems, trouble makers don't seem to last long at Gillette Stadium. With that in mind, who (a trade) or what (draft picks) are the Pats going to get for Pro Bowl safety Meriweather should the powers that be decide his time in NE come to a close (and he doesn't spend the next five years in jail)?
Also, who do Pulputeers think the group of Safetys will be comprised of should Meriweather leave town? Chung, Page, Sanders, Brown, and McGowen? Who would stay, who would go, and who might we bring in?
Just something to talk about in these slooow football days.

I agree, but
Meriweather hasn’t been exactly irreplacable on the field and the Pats seem to have a low threshold for players whondon’t keep their noses straight. Even without a conviction or arrest, his decision making and judgement (lack of) may be the proverbial straw that breaks the camels bck.

He hasn't been found guilty of anything
Legally, anyways. He’s definitely got pretty poor judgment on and off the field. He shouldn’t be at a party with a gun, or with people who have guns, period. I don’t care how innocent he is.
As far as a trade, I don’t know how much 2 Pro Bowls will get you. I don’t think teams are going to really view him as elite, so you are looking at a mid to late round draft pick as compensation. This year’s safety class is pretty weak also, with a couple outlets saying that the top rated guy, Rahim Moore, is at best a late 2nd round talent. So, if we get rid of Meriweather, we would probably stay in-house.
Sanders and Chung would probably be the starters, and Page was tendered so he’ll be back, probably as the 3rd safety. Sergio Brown showed so ability last season so he might stick around as a reserve safety. Josh Barrett, who we kinda stole from the Broncos, is supposedly a decent sub option while also being a great special teams player, so he’ll probably stick around.
Brandon McGowan I haven’t heard much about since the preseason when he was hurt, and seeing as he is not under contract for 2011 I’m thinking he might be gone. If they think Brown or Barrett aren’t up to filling the reserve role behind the top 3 they might bring him back for some more veteran depth.
Deep in enemy territory
Dont think he's worth a 2nd rounder?
Especially given the weak safety class tthis year.
With the "issues" surrounding this?
He may have been on the 27th of February, but he’d be a 4th now. If someone wants it, I’d do it.

I think a 3rd.
or a 2nd round for next year.

I’ve read that he broke up a fight. So the real question is did Meriweather take a bad angle to the fight?

I'd say so. He was trying to get to White Castle.

I wonder about that kid Josh Barrett, He is blazing fast. I wonder what he can bring to the table as a Safety for the Pats.
He's also quite big for a S
