According to a Christopher Price WEEI report, the New England Patriots have a scheduled private workout with cornerback/safety Cortez Allen of Citadel. The significance of this, of course, is that it's the Patriots first reported private workout of the draft season. We should see more and more of these in coming days and weeks leading up to the draft.
At 6-1,197 lbs, Allen played mostly cornerback with Citadel, but could seemingly make the transition to free safety at the next level. Allen has good speed (4.5) and quick feet. He played mostly man coverage at the Citadel, and will presumably need work to adjust to zone. However, with his combination of size, athleticism and willingness in run support, he certainly has decent potential as both a cornerback or free safety.
Look for Allen to be selected early in day three of the NFL draft.
