Belichick-Era Patriots Top 10 Successes #5
Name: Dan Koppen
College: Boston College
Drafted: 5th Round, 164th Overall, 2003
Position: Center
Years with Team: 8
Where is he now? New England Patriots Starting Center
Comments: It isn't too hard to see why Dan Koppen is listed as one of the best draft successes of the Bill Belichick era. As a fifth round pick, Koppen was never seen as a top-flight prospect. Undersized, not athletic. Still, he was technically sound, played hard and had all of the intangibles. Nevertheless, he came in and was a starter by week two of his rookie season. He never relinquished that spot, and has missed only one regular season game since 2005. Talk about consistency. He's won two Super Bowls with the team and has one Pro Bowl under his belt, although he remains an underrated commodity. In fact, the Patriots, due to Koppen's consistency, haven't had to worry about the center position in nearly a decade. Koppen is 31 now, and some people have concerns about his ability to hold up against big nose tackles in the AFC East, but there's no way you can argue against Koppen as one of the biggest draft steals and successes of the Bill Belichick era.

Question
Given the poor showings by the offensive-line in the past 3 playoff games I am left wondering just who is responsible for all that pressure?
I know at times it seems to come from the interior line, so Koppen is certainly a part of it, but also it seems that a lot of the pressure comes from the left-side, I guess the real question is whether it’s Mankins of Light, or both who are responsible.
I know Light has played well recently and Mankins obviously brings an edge in the running game, I’m wondering if he’s as dominant in Pass Pro, or is the issue more of Light getting beat?
Anyone have any thoughts?
well
Nick Kazcur needs to be replace. Did that this year. Struggled against everyone.
Dan Koppen struggles against NT and bigger 1 tech DT.
Matt Light struggles against really fast OLB/DE
Logan Mankins struggles against really quick hybrid DE/DT
Stephen Neal ..same as Logan but worse.
Non Sibi Sed Patriae ;I bleed Scarlet and Grey...A Buckeye for Life.
Cameron Heyward- Future 3-4 RDE for the New England Patriots.
The talent on the OL has diminished significantly
so I credit the generally solid performance of the OL in the regular season to Scar (the OL coach), with the playoff failings coming as a result of a tattered, worn-down and less talented group going up against elite fronts.
