Every year, someone surprises us. I'll include 7th rounders for the hell of it - last year there was Brandon Deaderick, Kyle Love, Dane Fletcher and Sergio Brown who roared out of nowhere onto the roster, and by the end of the season it was fair to say all four had potential. The Patriots, with really nothing else on the agenda right now, are guaranteed to be scouting undrafted free agents for diamonds in the rough. Luckily for them, there's still plenty of talent out there.
QB - We really don't need one, but there's Scott Tolzien (Wisconsin) and Pat Devlin (Delaware).
RB - I can't see another one sticking but it's worth looking at a few. Graig Cooper (Miami) has a ton of talent but slipped because of injuries, Noel Devine (West Virginia) has awesome upside, Derrick Locke (Kentucky) is actually a very good player, not sure why he wasn't taken and I also like Vai Taua (Nevada).
WR - A lot of talent here if we are looking for a big guy to take a chance on. We all liked Armon Binns (Cincinnati) and Terrence Toliver (LSU), Dane Sanzenbacher (Ohio State) is technically very sound but doesn't really fit a need, and Keith Smith was a monster at Purdue before knee injuries.
TE - Can't see another one here.
OL - Still a lot on the board, especially inside. Zane Taylor (Utah) wasn't picked, he could actually be a good player at center and the Patriots have worked him out at Pro Day. Kristopher O'Dowd (USC) and Stephen Schilling (Michigan) are both solid productive players who are worth a camp invite. There are also bigger names, like Carl Johnson (Florida), Jarriel King (South Carolina) and Zachary Hurd (Connecticut) on the board as well. Even workout warrior Ryan Bartholomew (who isn't very technically sound) could be a center project with his measureables and Scar.
DL - Unfortunately, not much here. We worked out Corbin Bryant (Northwestern), but I'm not a fan of his. Maybe Adrian Taylor (Oklahoma), but I think anyone here would be a Belichick surprise.
OLB - Ugo Chinasa (Oklahoma State) is the first guy to come to mind, along with Pierre Allen (Nebraska) and Kentrell Lockett). Actually, they're the only ones to come to mind. I wouldn't be surprised to see Chinasa in camp, but obviously we had Carter rated higher.
CB - We don't really need help here, I would be pretty surprised if someone made the cut. Only names to jump out at me is Mario Butler (Georgia Tech) and Niles Brinkley (Wisconsin).
S - Actually, a lot of talent. Duenta Williams (UNC) is still there - he's a player. We all like Joe Lefeged from Rutgers as well. There could be an absolute steal or two in the secondary.
My dream UDFA pickups are Derrick Locke, Armon Binns/Terrence Toliver, Zane Taylor, Stephen Schilling, Ugo Chinasa, Duenta Williams and Joe Lefeged - how about yours?
