JAT #33- Kevin Faulk- "I'm a free agent," but I'm a Patriot for life"

Wow.. now I really hate Vancouver
That bite was clear as day AND the guy kept swinging through the ref. The Bruins player stopped, the Canuck kept going and going and going and then bit him.. and then kept going. How do you not even get 1 game for that? A 2 minute powerplay is all they’re going to get for that? Ugh.. I don’t watch hockey much but this isn’t a good reunion.

Doubtful
Given that ruling, I’d assume it would be Chara getting suspended for some crap. He’s already been hit in the face with sticks twice, tackled for no reason (literally just standing around) during fights TWICE, and crosschecked a few times (that weren’t called) but I’m sure he’ll do something to get the refs to give a suspension. Like flip off the green men or something.
If knowledge is power and power corrupts...
I think the green men were banned for a couple of games for 69ing on the penalty box.

You can find more Gronks than you can find WR type TE like Herno.
Non Sibi Sed Patriae ;I bleed Scarlet and Grey...A Buckeye for Life.
In Bill We Trust.
Really?
I can only think of a few all-round TEs.
Gronk, Jason Witten.
Gonzalez and Crumpler were all-round TEs, but are ageing and less important in the passing game. Antonio Gates is more of a receiver than true all-rounder, but he’s impossible to take off the field, so deserves consideration anyway. But even Gates is starting to pick up injuries like an elder statesman.
Tony Moeaki and Brandon Pettigrew are gifted, and might improve their blocking enough to be promoted to this tier.
Also, Jermichael Finley and Anthony Fasano might each enter those ranks with a second good season each – at the moment, they might be one-season-wonders.
As for Hernandez-type WR/TE hybrids, there are a lot.
Dallas Clark, Chris Cooley, Ben Watson (at least in Cleveland), Kellen Winslow (when he’s not falling off bikes), Marques Colston (who was a TE/WR his rook season), Brandon Marshall (as a big WR), Vernon Davis, Marcedes Lewis, Dustin Keller, Zach Miller, Jason Tamme, Kevin Boss, Brent Celek, Jermaine Gresham, Owen Daniels. Not truly gifted blockers, but definitely big, athletic WR/TE types who pose that matchup issue Hernandez does. Too big for CBs, too fast for LBs, too strong for Safeties.

I'd wait a couple years to pass judgment on Gronk.
This was his first season. He performed very well, BUT, to draw a possibly flawed parallel, so did Randy Moss in his first season in NE.
If Gronkowski can maintain this sort of production (50-60 receptions, 500-700 receiving yards, and 3-8 receiving TDs), I would be ecstatic.

The difference though...
is that Moss was at the tailend of his best days, even in 2007….his mental capacity allowed him to be one with his physical capacity, and I think that was what allowed him to blow everybody away that year. Fast forward 3 years later, and he winds up with 9 catches in 4 games.
Gronk, OTOH, has his entire career ahead of him….and he tied a record for TD receptions for a rookie TE…so I believe his best days are still ahead.
"All truths are easy to understand once discovered; the point is to discover them." - Galileo
I hope the best is yet to come.
I can think of a lot of rookie receivers who exploded on the scene their first season and were never seen again…

Gronk's a great blocker, though
Even if he fades as a receiver – and he might – he’s still going to be a starting-quality TE just through his blocking. Blocking is hard to lose.

Finley hasn't even had a season.
He’s all potential at this stage. He could be a Gates, but let him actually produce (and stay on the field) before I call him a good player. Fasano is… Fasano. Average.
And Gronk for sure. Blocks like a tackle, and catches like a WR.

I rate Fasano
Doesn’t help his receiving stats that he’s on the ‘Phins, but he’s a good blocker. He’d be a better receiver playing for someone else, and he’s a better blocker than (say) Keller, Watson, Hernandez, Clark, Tamme or Winslow. If he could receiver 75% of those guys, but still be a great on-the-line blocker, he’s an all-round TE.

perhaps.
I can’t think of any team that doesn’t have at least an okay TE starting, so I’d put Fasano in with the majority of starting NFL TEs.

we were ranking them (kind of).
And since TE is now a receiving position, probably more than a blocking position now, receiving skills are important. Yes, he can block well, but I’d still have to lump him in with the average NFL TEs.

quote is from an ex coach that was fired in 2003 by Tress
which is odd…since he is extremely loyal to his players (unfortunately) and coaches. All the allegations are from drug dealers, drug users and ex players that have grudges ie Ray Small and Rob Rose -two mega 5 star recruit busts. But Tress did say a white lie and it spiraled out of control. He brought it on himself. When the idiot QB came to osu in 2008, he had two sets of rules..one for the rest of the players and one for TP. That is evident when he benched a 6th yr senior QB (a QB that took OSU to the title game) over some gazelle arm punting egotistical schmuck.

Leigh was injured in TC
came back in the 3rd or 4th preseason game and got injured, then IR. Week 1 and 2 starting CB’s were McC and Butler, with Wilhite in the slot. Butler got benched in the 3rd game and beyond, and it was Kyle A and McC as the 1 and 2 CB’s w. Chung (ughh) and Wilhite sharing 3rd cb duties. Then Wilhite got IR’d and it was McC, Kyle A and Chung/Bulter as the 3rd CB. As in the playoffs. Though in the playoffs, Butler was the 3rd CB.

all i know is at all the 2010 season games are all mp4 format. Now windows movie maker recognizes some of it…some of it…it doesn’t. So I used format factory to convert it from mp4 to avi and then use the avi videos.
I have no idea why when i added all the gronk videos together that avi and the mp4 format (that movies maker recognizes) didn’t work together….
So all I did was take the org movie maker files, delete all but 1 games (did it 16 times) and then joined them in the format factory program to my 18 min Gronk Video…took me 8 hrs (but I was studying in between)

Batman: The Killing Joke (Ledger’s inspiration for the Joker)
John Constantine
Swamp Thing
Those are some of the more known ones but his writing is stellar. Easily one of the top 3 writers in the industry if not THE top writer (him, Neil Gaiman, and Frank Miller). His stuff in Superman and Green Lantern was epic.
On the flip side, he’s an “interesting person” being that he’s an anarchist, ceremonial magician, hates ducks and follows a Roman god that even he AND the Romans who made the deity acknowledges as false. Yeah.. he’s interesting.

Who’s to say that he won’t maintain his relevance, especially with his ambitions.
Heck, Kanye even just released a collab with Jay-Z, the supposed rapper with “staying power…” he’s getting endorsed by the very people who think that he can continue to further his legacy. Not to mention his production skills, which give him an even longer shelf-life in the industry.

What?
I don’t pay much attention to that culture, but I haven’t heard his name since the Taylor Swift thing and even then I didn’t care. Other than that, the last thing I heard was that collab with Daft Punk. Personally, I don’t care if he’s still around or not.. he’s a two face faker with a crappy attitude who can’t sing outside of a studio. If any one of those things weren’t true, I could probably forgive him a little bit or even if he came out and said he was. But no, he keeps pushing.
If knowledge is power and power corrupts...
if you don't pay attention to "that culture," then you're a poor judge of it.

you're attacking "that culture" which you have admitted is something you do not pay much attention to, but having lived in memphis somehow gives you the authority to make judgments about it?

Then let's flip it, what do you know about luau and Hawaiian culture?
If knowledge is power and power corrupts...
This doesn't even make sense.
First of all, hip hop culture is not localized to Memphis. And I am honestly afraid of what I think you might be implying here.
Second, I know some things about Hawaiian culture having grown up here, but I would NEVER proclaim myself an authority on such matters.

Who said I was saying "i'm an authority"?
I was posting opinion and what I knew. And you are right, hip hop culture is not localized to Memphis, it has it’s roots in lots of places. I’m not arguing anyone’s credentials here. You called me a bad judge of it. I mention I lived in the city and it was a daily thing. Did I care for it? Not especially. Could I have dodged it? Nope. Might I have preferences toward more local artists (like 8Ball and 666 Mafia), definitely. None of this changes the facts about Kanye.
That said, I’m judging ONLY Kanye and pointing at the reality of the situation he is in. I’m not speaking on the industry as a whole. I’ve also noticed you attacked me instead of defending Kanye. So how about you get back to talking about Kanye and a little less in the personal realm. Deal?
If knowledge is power and power corrupts...
Fine, ignore the word authority, but I wouldn't even DARE to make judgments about something that I do "not pay attention to."
That alone invalidates any argument you may try to make.
And as for taking things into the personal realm, I’m not the one who tried to bring up ask where you’ve lived and where you’ve been – that was ALL you.
Deal?

Yet still, nothing about Kanye...
AGAIN, i’m not making judgements about the culture. I’m making judgements about Kanye. It’s pretty easy to do. Most people have some kind of opinion on him. You jumped all over one statement to discredit ME for some odd reason like you’re some kinda authority on ME. You know less about me than you know about Kanye yet for some reason it’s easier to attack me than Kanye.
As for the rest of it, whatever. It’s discredited because you can’t seem to let go of me as a topic. That’s ok though, whatever helps you feel like you’ve “won” at the end of the day.
If knowledge is power and power corrupts...
Fine.
For someone who seems so outraged by me attacking the context of your arguments, you seem quite focused on Kanye’s persona yourself. After all, you stated that “he’s a jerk, that’s first and foremost.” I gather you also take issue with his auto-tuning.
First of all, a person can be an asshole and a genius at the same time. People may not like some of the things he says, but that doesn’t take away from his lyricism. The WORDS are the thing, and putting him in the same category as Lil Wayne and 50 Cent because of auto-tune is absurd.
Finally, calling Kanye a “flavor of the month” given the longevity of his career not only as a performer but as a well respected producer is misguided at best.

Oh well, the whole dating/relationship thing is just not easy to navigate… I had s/o tell me that my problem was that b/c I am independent, self sufficient and don’t really cry, it’s hard for a man to feel needed and men need to feel like the woman needs them. Huh?

They call Champ Bailey (who was revealed this week to be number 48) and they asked who is
a cornerback who he likes a lot. He answers “Devin McCourty.” The 2010 draft class is looking like it is gonna be one of the better classes in BB draft history, if not the best.
RIP Seve
it sure has the potential to be the best
but, that has a lot to do with how incredibly deep that class was as well. one of the many reasons I think Belichick traded for the future again this year was because this class was very weak
know that luck favors the prepared. - SMP
I think BB will always trade into the future...
…In a deep draft he can trade down, get future picks, and still get awesome players, like Devin McCourty, Gronk, Herndo, Jermaine Cunningham, and Brandon Spikes all in the same draft.
In a weak draft he can trade into the future and avoid wasting too many picks on weak talent.
Therefore I feel the strength of the draft has little if anything to do with whether or not BB will trade into the future.

PFF "surrendering pressure"
no QB does as good a job at not letting pressure get to him, with only 0.88% of Colts pass plays resulting in pressure because Manning held onto the ball for too long
Esayed then goes on to say that only Carson Palmer bettered that number. So which one is it?
NE was 17th in pressures allowed, with pressure on 37% of passing snaps. Our O-line ranked 19th, and the Colts 18th, in pressures allowed per cumulative linemen pass protection snaps. So muchnfor us having an elite line, and the Colts relying solely on Manning’s arm. First? Not surprisingly, the NYJ. Shows how dangerous they’d be if they had a semi-competent QB (if they’d drafted Freeman in 09).

sorry for the length, but found this hilarious
Dude….
What is the purpose of this site if all you are going to do is pander to people who already agree with you anyway, and merely insult people who don’t agree with you? And why do you even post this if your only looking for zombie head bobbers to agree with you, and your not interested in supporting your beliefs with anything tangible?
So You’ve finally come up with one reasonably concrete fact to support one of your arguements. Bravo! Matt Light and Joe Andruzzi (for all those years) at the same positions weren’t exactly slouches, and I’m surpised they haven’t been selected to pro bowls (and you should be too). Glenn and Saturday do have a lot of help from Manning’s unparalleled play action fakes and quick decision making that make them look very good. Although I’m sure you’ll ignore that fact as well.
Your entire entire argument is predicated on Manning having a better offensive supporting cast. That argument has so many whole in it that it that it is basically transparent. For example:
So Brady’s stats would be just as good as Manning’s if he had as good of a supporting cast? Have you heard of a guy named Drew Brees? In 2006 He led the league in passing yards with almost a 1000 more yards than Brady. And he had more touchdowns, less ints, and a higher QB rating. He turned a rookie 7th round draft pick into a 1000 yard receiver, and made other relative unkowns contribute. Horn was hurt the whole year and didn’t have an impact. There is Bush, but he still threw for more yards than Brady even if you subtract Bush’s 700 yards receiving. He also had a horrible defense and did all this in his first year in a system. So why hasn’t Brady even come close to this type of production?
And again, you’re totally down playing the defenses role in his success. He’s a few other guys you may have heard of: Trent Dilfer, Brad Johsnon, Ben Rothlesberger, Jeff Hostettler. All these guys won super bowl rings with great defenses and no better offensive supporting casts then Brady. All these guys were merely servicable QBs. Of course you say “they haven’t won 3”. Once again, I think Brady is great, just not better than Manning. The point I’m trying to make is defense is more important than the offensive cast, and history has proven it time and time again.
Who is the only QB to win a Super Bowl in the last 20 years with a defense that wasn’t ranked in the top 10 (in scoring)? That’s right….Manning. Not only were they not in the top 10 (they were 23rd), they were epically bad at stopping the run. No other QB has even gotten a defense ranked last in rush defense into the playoffs much less put rings on their fingers. Even though it’s a tired saying “Defense wins championships”. It’s battle tested. And it’s a saying often used by guys who have first hand knowledge and much more experience on the subject than you or I. Yet you choose to completely ignore this notion. And it was Manning who proved to be the only QB up to the task. Not Brady, Montana, Marino, or Aikman. Manning!
Now that Manning has a ring, you have absolutely nothing tangible to argue that Brady is any better. That is why you result to insults rather than addressing the actual content of those contesting your wildly unsupported claims. Do your best to refute these facts. Actually don’t bother, you can’t.
And one last thing before I never visit this pathetic site ever again. Unless Brady doesn’t throws 50 TD passes next year with his new offensive cast, I don’t want to hear another peep out of patriot nation on the subject ever again.

personally?
All 5 come in to camp, and all 5 stay on the roster. Unless someone gets injured.
25 guys on Offense
3 QBs – Brady, Hoyer, Mallett
5 RBs
5 WRs – Welker, Branch, Price, Edelman, Tate
4 TEs – Gronk, Hernandez, Crumpler, Smith
8 OL – Vollmer, Solder, Mankins (new deal by week 1), Connolly, Koppen, Ojinnaka/LeVoir, Wendell, Ohrnberger (Cannon to IR)

25. About usual.
7 DL – Wilfork, Warren, Wright, Brace, Pryor, Love, Deaderick/Weston/Stroud
10 LB – Mayo, Spikes, Fletcher, Guyton, Moore, Cunningham, Ninkovich, Banta-Cain, Carter, White
8 DB – McCourty, Bodden, Dowling, Butler, Arrington, Sanders, Chung, Page
The LB numbers may be thinned.

And hopefully Arrington, because he’s far more talented. If he can put it together, he should be a very good nickel guy.

I thought Butler really stepped up covering the slot those last couple games.
Besides he is a little more physical than our other corners, so I think he still has a place on the team.
More physical than McCourty?

I disagree.
He tackles really well and he bumps WRs a lot. He (McCourty) is better in the boundary than in the slot..which is where Butler is good at.
"All truths are easy to understand once discovered; the point is to discover them." - Galileo
bumps too much.
There’s physical, and there’s PI. Butler needs to do better getting a jam, and less hands-on down field. He’ll struggle with that because he’s smaller than Bodden, McC and Dowling. McCourty can jam, and plays on the hip until the ball gets there. I don’t think he was even flagged for PI last season…
"Perhaps it was the Noid who should have avoided me." Mayor Adam West
by insertscreenname on Jun 7, 2011 11:21 AM EDT up reply actions
This is exactly what I meant.
I by no means meant to say he was better than McCourty, especially covering the sidelines. But I think his “hands on” style of play benefited him in the slot. As physical as he was I don’t recall it resulting in a PI. Sometimes you need a guy like that.
but trying to understand how bad he was
to lose the starting gig after just a couple weeks, doesn’t make me think highly of him anywhere
know that luck favors the prepared. - SMP
I don't think he would have been any worse than Arrington.
That sounds like it must have been a pure, “we’re going to ensure the guy’s tackled after he catches it, and sure up our run D as well” move by BB.

it was just a disappointing year for our secondary
when I look past the excellent play of McCourty. Butler fell out of favor quick. Meriweather made bone-headed mistakes. Chung was just bad in coverage, but that is just physical limitations. Bodden got hurt.
Hopefully Bodden’s return and Dowling being as good as advertised make the Pats secondary one of the best, even with the shoddy pass rush
know that luck favors the prepared. - SMP
Chung was bad in coverage because he's a safety.
Who was the last SS you saw run down the field in sync with a WR? No-one does it, and that’s why teams have nickel backs.
He was playing as a nickel pretty much because there was nobody else to play nickel, until Butler got back on the field late in the season.

I think he is just very good at positioning and recovery. I don’t exactly rewatch or study games but from what I saw Butler just seemed a little more physical.
What I would suggest..
is watch Ninja’s video on the Bengals game with the defense…you will see from the start that McCourty was very physical with 85 and Carson Palmer….I could name many more examples, but this is the most recent one. And, it’s a good plug for Ninja’s videos.

Gerard Warren's out, unless Stroud blows and we need a veteran.
Ty Warren comes back starting, with Vince and Brace? Back-up would be Pryor, Wright, Deaderick/Stroud/G Warren (Weston probably PSs it unless he’s Seymour 2.0), and Love is too good to make it through waivers.
Depends on how versatile they want the D-line to be. Stroud, Pryor and Wright would be useful pass-rushing, Love can spell Vince at NT…

2007 Revis: 82 times thrown at, 33 stops, 17 defeats, 17 PDs, 3 INTs, 7.4 yards per play
2010 McCourty: 70 times thrown at, 33 stops, 16 defeats, 17 PDs, 6 INTs, 7.3 yards per play

This year's Revis
Isn’t the best example, because he was barely thrown at:
2010 Revis: 27 times thrown at, 13 stops, 4 defeats, 10 PDs, 4 INTs, 8.4 yards per play
2008’s will be interesting though.
2008 Revis: 62 times thrown at, 28 stops, 13 defeats, 16 PDs, 5 INTs, 8.2 yards per play
I’ll probably be discussing it more on the radio show with starts in 6 minutes!

OB might have to help me….I have no idea what games he missed in his senior year. The Ridley games I could find are the ones against Texas A&M (128 ish yards) and Bama game (88 yards)
For Veeran, I downloaded the Stanford game, Org game, Temple and another one…let’s hope I can at least get one of them downloaded…it sucks though, cause NFL torrents are more popular than college torrents.

So easy (not the downloading part)
once you are used to it. Takes me at most a hr to two to do a game (ie the Bengals video). Windows movie maker is simple to use. I just wish they had that annotation like youtube does…so it would be easier to identify a player.
I think for the 2011 season, I’ll download all OSU games so I can do a video on Mike Brewster and maybe Nathan Williams. If I was you, once the season starts, download all the games you want…move them to a 1TB external drive and then chop away. I’m sure that’s what Alo does..unless he has a bazillion DVR’s at home.

i have 12 of those 07 games. I got them before that site I used instituted some weird rules about seeding and such after I downloaded all the 2010 games and part of the 2007 season. but just to address that stat
there is the very real possibility that Meriweather took himself out of the play so much that he didn’t even get a chance to have a broken tackle.
We can continue to try and come up with stats, as is our nature, but unless we know every single assignment by very single player on every single play we will never truly know the cause of successful or failed plays.

I know I know.
In fact I totally expected someone to say “Meriweather’s so out of position all the time he can’t even miss a tackle.”
I’m just never gonna avoid an opportunity to poke at Meriweather bashers a little bit.

And 27 TDs?
Assuming Brady breaks 30 (not a stretch to imagine that), that’s a lot of points. 8 running TDs more than last year, when Benny was unstoppable inside the 10…
That’s optimistic. Not saying it couldn’t happen, but I doubt we average almost 35 points a game again.

I know it's optimistic
But to be honest…the offense, on paper, should be better than last year’s rendition. The receivers are improving, we have more back options, and the OL is better.
Of course, it won’t play out like that at all, since games are won on the field…but it’s possible. And I’m an optimist :P.

I can't see Welker not topping 100 catches.
Price should get more catches than Tate too, and may even push Branch for his spot on the field as a “starter”.

Why would Price get more catches than Tate?
I think that Tate is going to break out next year. If he can just polish his game a bit more, he could be a really good WR.
And I don’t know why Welker would get 100 catches, we’re not forcing him the ball anymore. He’s no longer our only option. There’s too much talent for the receptions not to be diffused.

Welker was getting 100+ receptions when we were forcing the ball to Moss all the time as if he was our only option.
Welker is Brady’s safety valve out of the slot. I can easily see him getting 100+ catches.
by UtopianAverage on Jun 9, 2011 11:20 PM EDT up reply actions
I don't think it's as necessary anymore though
Now we have Gronk, Hernandez, Faulk, Woodhead and Vereen…I just don’t see how those receptions could possibly be monopolized. Welker only had 86 catches last season, and I don’t see why they would rise again with all of those young players ostensibly improving and able to do similar things, especially in regards to moving the chains.

That's what I was saying.
Honestly our offense was amazing efficient last year. We pretty much had the fewest offensive posessions and scored a lot of points.
Welker had 86 last year, with more total drives by the Pats as a whole, why can’t his numbers go up as well as the young guys numbers too ?

he had 86, dropped 15ish,

"All truths are easy to understand once discovered; the point is to discover them." - Galileo
If Welker cuts down on his drops
he wouldn’t even need many more opportunities than what he had last year and we weren’t really running the offense through him then either. Not much change in the offense would need to happen for him to top 100 he just needs to be healthier.
plus we'll have 16 games without Randy
instead of just 12

I don't expect Tate to get more than Price
mainly because Brady does not have a very good rapport with Tate
know that luck favors the prepared. - SMP
Just how they'd be used.
Price will get a lot of the move-the-chains, 12 yard comebacks, slants, etc, whereas Tate’s more likely to be used as the deep threat – he needs specific plays downfield to get him the ball.

I really really like Price.
I know it’s a small sample size, but that Miami game man.
He looks big-ish, and he looks fast and strong. At the same time his slants and comebacks look very very crisp and sharp, and he seems to have decent hands.
I don’t know that he’ll usurp Branch or Tate or Welker for touches. I do think he’ll be active for gameday and we’ll see a lot more of him this year than we did last, which isn’t saying all that much as we saw 4 players.

I just don’t see Tate as a legit #1 or #2 option for us. I see him as a good #3. A better, more consistent #3 than he was last year.
by UtopianAverage on Jun 9, 2011 11:57 PM EDT up reply actions
But why?
I mean, he’s 6 foot 1, has speed to burn, is our best vertical threat, basically was a rookie last year and put up pretty decent numbers considering he was thrown into the fire Week 6 without a ton of receiving help.
He’s just so overly maligned. The guy came off of 1.5 years without playing any WR. He improved a ton as the season went on and showed me some great football IQ. I still think that Jimmy Smith is a good comparison for him, and I think he will surprise all of you :)
