Patriots Shopping List?
John P. Lopez gives his shopping listfor all the AFC teams. Here's what he says for the Patriots.
Money is no object: With Randy Moss gone and Deion Branch aging, the Pats must put Braylon Edwards and more likely Sidney Rice on their priority call list. Edwards' baggage won't bother the Pats and Rice is young and explosive.
Smart shopper: Tampa Bay's Barrett Ruud is the prototype Patriots linebacker target. He's coming off a bad season, but extremely talented, still young and a sure tackler that could be reborn in the Pats' system.
Wide receiver and linebacker don't seem to be the biggest needs for the Pats, but you never know.

Not for nothing
but i would be furious if edwards signed with the pats i cant stand him and have no desire to root for him. as for ruud i like him as a player but i dont know if we need him. if he wants to sign a team friendly deal sure but no big bucks on him middle linebacker is not a huge need for the pats.
I would do back flips for Rice
but my first pick is Ray Edwards. Yeah yeah, he has no experience in a 3-4, i dont really care. on 3rd down, I want him rushing the quarterback and picking up 10 sacks a season cuz wilfork, brace, and warren all take on double teams and leave edwards unblocked… ….Yes Please

I like Ray Edwards, and I think he’ll fit the 3-4 at RE. I would like to get some OL though. and maybe a FB and OLB.
I’ll take 11 players with heart on the field over 11 guys with just talent. Talent is fleeting, it goes away over time. Heart is what drives you to be better. To push yourself beyond what you think your capabilities are. To show us that when you strive, all things are possible.- SMP
Really?
Dude’s smaller than Jermaine Cunningham. No way he can play line in the 3-4. He’d play the DeMarcus Ware role of just rushing the passer, which he could do really well at. However, I think his versatility is in question which limits his value with the Patriots.

edwards is 268, and cunningham is 260.
edwards is 6-5, and cunningham is 6-3.
Also, he is a strong DE. 30 bench reps in college, and he is likely stronger. I think he has the size, strength, speed(20 yard dash is 2.8. to compare, jared allen has a 2.74 20 yard dash. he is also stronger than allen, who only had 13 bench reps in college) to play 3-4 RE.

cunningham has bench reps of 15 to compare. So Ray is no where near Cunninham when it comes to strength.
and i believe cunningham has a 2.71 20 yarder. which is only a 10th of a second in front of Ray.

You said as a 3-4 DE, though
That’s 300lb territory. Did you mean 3-4 OLB?

you have a point that his weight not being 300 would not be 3-4 End worthy...
so maybe he would be better off at the OLB position. But hey, if we can have Kyle Arrington play DE well, im sure we can fit him in. ;)

Arrington was playing 4-3 DE in subpackages.
Edwards would not only fit as a DE in our subpackages, he’d probably be excellent there.
In the base 3-4 though, OLB.

Bahahahahahahah
Lopez is an idiot. An ILB?
More likely signings (names are too hard, they’d involve some Inception style mind heist on the trained subconscious of BB) would be a couple of middle of the road semi-veteran OLBs who’ve never posted huge numbers, and… that’s about it. Maybe they look at a Stallworth or Ochocinco a few weeks into camp, if things don’t seem to be working out, but they’re not bringing in Sidney Rice. And probably not anyone looking to get their career contract (goodbye Ray Edwards).
As for Braylon “Slosh” Edwards… I’d put the odds (and desire) for BB to be making that move at the same level as Mangini returning to Defensive Coordinator.

If I were to go after an injury-prone LB, I'd probably want Kiwanuka
He’s played both 4-3 DE and 4-3 OLB, so he’s got the coverage and pass-rushing and edge-setting down.

Agreed.
Kiwanuka would be a nice fit here, if he could stay healthy.
