Who Will Make Plays For the Defense?

The defense is a unit that plays together. And we know about our players as fans. But what  we don't know is who will be the man who steps up when it counts. But in my mind that is where we are with our team. Who will do the killing? Because talented teams have at least 3 play makers on their defenses. Great teams have more. I'm bringing this up because for New England to take the next step, someone must act when the time comes. I want to see who take it personally and does something about it. Who wants it. And I'm sure you guys and gals do too. More after the jump.

When we last left the Patriots, they walked off their own field losers. They lost to a better team that day. And all everyone could talk about was what happened? Quite frankly, I was hurt. But I saw a game in which let me know who the Super Bowl Champions would be. Once Green Bay destroyed the Giants in Green Bay, there was little doubt for me, that the Packers would bring back the Lombardi. So I was only so mad. But I WAS still mad. And I hope that the Patriots are still mad. Still upset. Still stewing that a golden opportunity slipped away. And to this day, I still feel as though the Patriots should have been playing on Super Sunday.

I must use the Champion Packers as a barometer. You can name Tramon Williams, A.J. Hawk, and even Clay Mathews  as the main play makers for the Packer defense. But you would have missed their most important player. Charles Woodson. No Packer is more important and receives less attention than he does. Matthews gets a lot of glory because he gets sacks. But Woodson makes just as many, if not more timely plays than Clay does.

Who does this for the Patriot defense? Jerod Mayo lead the league in tackles last season. But he had few forced turnovers. Brandon Spikes has potential. But every time he takes a step forward, he takes one backwards and sideways as well.Devin McCourty has play making ability. Eric Moore does too. But who will make consistent plays for the defense is my question. And realistically I have few answers.

So what do you guys think? Who do you think will have a season to remember for the our young defense?
