Remaining Free Agent DE/DTs
From Walterfootball.com
Aubrayo Franklin, NT, 49ers. Age: 31.

Aubrayo Franklin is coming off great back-to-back years - but he's never played this well when not in a contract season. As I wrote last year, caveat emptor.
Cullen Jenkins, DE/DT, Packers. Age: 30.

Cullen Jenkins dominates the line of scrimmage when he's on the field. Unfortunately, Jenkins is often injured; he has missed 17 games in the past three years.
Mike Patterson, DT, Eagles. Age: 28.

Mike Patterson doesn't provide much of a pass rush, but he's an excellent run defender. He's a 4-3 player only. There's some dispute about whether Patterson is a free agent or not. A Washington Post salary cap expert believes Patterson will become a free agent if no CBA is met by March 4.
Pat Williams, NT, Vikings. Age: 38.

A two-down run-stuffer, Pat Williams still got it done this season despite playing at 38 years old. He'll try to help a contender
Justin Bannan, DE/DT, Broncos. Age: 32.

Justin Bannan had a solid year for the Broncos, which makes you wonder why they released him. Bannan can play in both the 4-3 and 3-4.
These are the guys Im interested in. As for OLB, there are mostly 4-3 guys. If we are going for 4-3, I would be interested with Manny Lawson.
IF we are moving to a 4-3, Kirk Morrison would be good OLB. decent vs. the pass, but good against the run. Will talk about more players later, as I have to leave now. lol

Kirk Morrison is a MLB
We’re stacked at that position
he is more fit at 4-3 OLB
us raider fans know this. lol
I’ll take 11 players with heart on the field over 11 guys with just talent. Talent is fleeting, it goes away over time. Heart is what drives you to be better. To push yourself beyond what you think your capabilities are. To show us that when you strive, all things are possible.- SMP
Since I don't think we'll shift our base defense around.

Mayo's played the Sam, Mike and Will spots in college before, so he could be used anywhere.
Guyton would fit in a Will role.
Spikes has played the Sam and Mike I believe.
The more you know, the more you know that you don't know.

I'd go with Spikes at Mike.
His lack of speed isn’t as big a deal there dice we don’t run a T-2 and he doesn’t have to cover he seam.
Put Guyton at Sam over a TE, and leave Mayo on Spikes’ right at Will, with the green dot. He can call the plays, and I trust Spikes’ judgement/instincts to make adjustments from the middle.

I said up top though, that IF we move to 4-3. lol

also who else do we have at ILB other than spikes and mayo?
Kirk would be good replacing Mayo to get him rest, or replacing spikes.

Fletcher and Guyton.
Fletcher was apparently getting some reps on the outside, so maybe he’s out. Guyton is a sub for Spikes on 3rd down.
I’m not taking Mayo off the field unless early 2000s Ray Lewis is subbing for him. Or perhaps Patrick Willis.

Probably.
But I don’t think we’re looking at bringing in 4-3 OLBs or 3-4 ILBs.

Where's Chad Greenway?
Is he still on the market? and why since we were gift wrapped Haynesworth and Chad johnson was a given since last year(also somewhat gift wrapped), and with Philly tagging Roger’s-Cromarti, Nnamdi Asiago for their backfield still having Asante Samuals as well ind you. Cullen jenkin’s is now a Philly Eagle as well! Can we just shellsome doe out for the best OLB available on a two or three year deal and not only get the job done, but clear some needed roster spot’s as well…?
greenway is franchised by the vikes. dont know if hes signed.

I'll have a shot at answering, the questions aren't clear.
Chad Greenway was given the Vikes’ franchise tag, and he’s an ILB. Not sure we need another, regardless of a potential shift towards a 4-3.
Yes, Philly now have 3 cornerbacks. That’s an upgrade on the one they had last year. They’ll try and ship Samuel, I guess, but he’s not coming back here.
The best OLB available is Tamba Hali. While he would certainly be a capable player, he’s far too expensive to obtain (he’s tagged, and would need a big contract to come here). There are good options out there, at a cheaper price. Matt Roth played under Crennel and Mangini in Cleveland, Manny Lawson played DE and OLB in the 49ers’ “hybrid” D.
