Patriots vs. Buccaneers: Reserve Struggle, But Pats Finish with 31-14 Win
Note: This is the official Pats Pulpit game thread
31 FINAL 14
New England Patriots at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
NFL Preseason Week 2
Bucs Coverage: Bucsnation.com
Notes from the fourth quarter of the Patriots vs. Buccaneers preseason game:
- The Bucs started their next drive by converting a third and one, but on first down of the next series, Tracy White got in a nice hit on Josh Johnson with a sack finished off by recent pickup Niko Koutouvides. Nonetheless, Josh Johnson helped continue the Bucs drive with a few nice throws and nice runs. The touchdown drive was capped with a two yard Allen Bradford run to cut the Patriots lead to 31-14.
- Stevan Ridley kept running strong on the next Patriots game. Ridley carried the ball four times for 36 yards. Unfortunately, Ryan Mallett continued his struggles with a pair of incompletions, and the Patriots drive stalled yet again.
- On the punt, Danny Woodhead, in coverage attempting to make the tackle, was blindsided by a Bucs' defender. The hit was clearly cheap - helmet-to-helmet. Woodhead needed assistance to get off the field. The Patriots defense did step up and force a 3-and-out following the Woodhead injury.
- The Patriots reserves failed to move the ball on offense, with the next drive resulting in another three and out. The Bucs took back over on offense and began to drive down the field led by Rudy Carpenter. Carpenter took off for a nice run and delivered a deep pass down the right sideline to Maurice Price for 34 yards (Butler in coverage). Eventually, the drive stalled and the Patriots took back over to take the final kneel downs and secure the 31-14 victory.

My issue is with fans of other fan bases down on that team for nothing. I honestly don't see why. Their coach isn't
Rex Ryan. There players aren’t a-holes like Cro and the bunch, so whats with the hatred towards them? So VY said something crazy, so what?

I agree with you actually.
And the quote was taken way out of context.

It was not a shot on the Eagles. It was a shot on the media.
This was the title of the AP article on nfl.com last week after the first preseason game:
‘Dream Team’ open with win
But teach me a lesson please…

It's a media staple. One of them HAS to be the dream team
In 2007, it was all about perfection. The Patriots didn’t refer to their run as a quest for perfection – the media did. And everyone started calling the players, coaches and organization arrogant because of it.
Keep the faith!
Exactly my point. Now FFTM is upset over nuthin.

What you did not understand, I did not mock the Eagles
I mocked the media. But no problem, kiddo.

I still want to see a healthy defense. I liked Gerrard Warren in the middle. I thought he played well.
So at the moment, u'll say Warren over Brace and Deaderick? What of Darryl Richard? 2 sacks last week.
I certainly would. Though i wanna see what Brace has to offer for once.

I'm not sure he did. If he did, he was a blocker only for sure.

Mallett was okay. He is still a rookie. And that showed today. His decision making on some plays were good. Others not so good. I also thought that you can see the fall off at receiver after Branch, Welker, and Chad. I’m not sold that Chad is a great fit for the Patriot offense yet.
Hopefully he and Dowling would play some time before the pre season is out. If not, they both may see IR.

How effective will he be after no pre-season and hardly any training programs? Arrington will still have that #3 CB
title on lock for quite possibly the rest of the year unfortunately.

I’m liking the potential of the secondary. Darius Butler played better today. Who is going to be the slot man is the key.
I think Bodden has been playing the slot mostly.

I think you have to view this preseason as the secondary getting in shape. better that they work out their problems when it doesn’t count.
arrington got some negatives from people but you have to take last year as his base and not worry that he will be worse. the only one who can get worse could be mccourty since he had such a great year before.
the only one who would be real interesting in preseason is Dowling if he played
here are my thoughts on today's game:
http://www.patspulpit.com/2011/8/18/2371743/jacksaxe-thoughts-against-the-bucs-preseason-game
I’ll take 11 players with heart on the field over 11 guys with just talent. Talent is fleeting, it goes away over time. Heart is what drives you to be better. To push yourself beyond what you think your capabilities are. To show us that when you strive, all things are possible.- SMP
