5 for 5 Pre-season Watch: 3. Secondary

Welcome to the 3rd installment in the 5 for 5 series(gotta change the name....) of things to watch this pre-season. As all of you may know, I touched upon questions of the RB situation and FB situation, and WR situations. Today I will talk about our next Pre-Season watch: our secondary.

How will Bodden do? Where will Ras-I play, will he steal the slot spot? Who will be our #1 CB? How much has Chung and Meriweather improved?

How will Bodden do?

Coming off a season ending rotator cuff injury, Bodden aims to bounce back in top form and compete for the starting CB job. Before Bodden's injury, Bodden was tremendous at preventing Yards After Catch, and blanketing receivers getting targeted only 85 times in 09(target percentage of 20.3%) and QBs completed only 44% of their passes (bodden has 56% success percentage). That's what we call efficient.

This pre-season we get to view bodden at the #2 or #1 corner position. How well will he play? He has done very well in camp, but the question will remain until we see him perform this pre-season.

Where will Ras-I play, will he steal the slot spot?

I for one, can't wait to see what Ras-I can do. A big corner with smooth hips, and ball skills. Honestly though, I don't think Ras-I will be awesome yet, but seeing him actually perform is something that I have been waiting for in the former 1st rounder.

Ras will likely be competing for the slot job against Butler, Wilhite, and Arrington while McCourty and Bodden take the #1 and 2 spots. Butler has looked good in camp, but not much was said on arrington and wilhite.

Ras-I held a lot of potential in college, and was considered a top CB prospect until he was plagued with minor injuries. A lot of minor injuries. The pats picked him up with the 33rd pick, instead of getting an OLB that everyone thought they would get (mostly everyone). He is a special prospect, that will be very interesting to watch this pre-season for the battle of the slot position.

Who will be our #1 CB? How much has Chung and Meriweather improved?

I already touched bases on the #1 CB spot. Both McCourty, and Bodden, both are very very good candidates to take the spot. But it's most likely BB will have them rotate depending on who the WR is.

CHung and Meri will be interesting though. Chung came off a slightly above average season, doing pretty much everything right but covering. Meri was sloppy in tackling, and was just good in coverage. So cung needs to improve his coverage abilities and Meri needs to improve his tackling.

Camp wise, Meri is not doing very well, an chung is doing good, but not amazing(just from reports). How they will look in pre-season remains to be seen, but it's something to look out for.
