Post-Game Thread: Patriots 45 Broncos 10

FOXBORO, MA - JANUARY 14: Tim Tebow #15 of the Denver Broncos is sacked by Gerard Warren #98 and Rob Ninkovich #50 of the New England Patriots in the third quarter during their AFC Divisional Playoff Game at Gillette Stadium on January 14, 2012 in Foxboro, Massachusetts. (Photo by Al Bello/Getty Images)

The Patriots are moving on to the AFC Championship.

This evening against the Denver Broncos, the Patriots had their most dominating performance of the season, putting a full 60 minutes of football together for the first time all season in a dominating 45-10 win. The victory advances the Patriots to the AFC Championship. The Patriots will host the winner of the Houston Texans at Baltimore Ravens game next Sunday.

We'll post a full recap later, but what a dominating performance. The Patriots destroyed the Broncos in all three phases. Tom Brady had the greatest playoff game of his legendary playoff career: throwing for 363 yards and six touchdowns. Rob Gronkowski was on the receiving end of three of those touchdowns, with one apiece going to Deion Branch, Wes Welker, and Aaron Hernandez.

Defensively, the Patriots played in the 3-4 throughout, and shut down Tim Tebow and the Broncos offense completely. It seemed that the Patriots were shutting the Broncos down in the backfield every play. They gang tackled, went for the ball, applied pressure, and covered receivers. What a turnaround for that unit.

Feel free to use this thread to discuss your thoughts on the game!

Winners of a post-season game for the first time in too long.

Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, and oh man that defense!

What a fantastic night!!!

Love it.

The defense was intense and disciplined, and Brady was on target all night. I would watch this game again if I could. It was such a beautiful win.

It seems the defense is coming along. I expect them to play much better next season too.

Having Spikes back is huge.

McCourty looks better, Chung helps, and Moore is surprising. The biggest thing, though, is that the D-Line is dominant. Get Carter back, and it’s even better.

Really, it’s been all uphill since we lost Haynesworth.

I don't want Carter as a DE. Rather have him as an OLB.

He is not a 3-4 End. lol And I want to stick with the 3-4.

Loved the intensity

But it’s so hard to tell what a good performance against the Donks means in the bigger picture. That’s a really horrible offense, after all.

YOu gotta look at the

discipline (in coverage and the #1 rushing team), intensity against a very good OL, their communication, and how active they were all around.

I feel happy for the defense

I pretty much expected Brady to put up some big numbers (though maybe not THAT big), but this was probably the best defensive game of the year. They’ve been showing some signs in the past few weeks, and this week they finally put it all together. Hopefully they can bottle the confidence from this game and have another couple strong performances.

Among the people who watched the first game, there could have been very little doubt.

We knew the Pats could shut down the Broncos offense. I was just surprised at how uneven the scales were in this game, and how much of it had to do with an outstanding defensive effort. Setting like five offensive records at a team or NFL level was just icing.

The pass rush today is what struck me...

I had not seen the Patriots so effortlessly find penetration since 2006. It seemed like the DEs could have pitched a tent in the backfield all night. If the Pats can do the same against Baltimore or Houston’s O-line, that will be good news considering their shaky quarterbacks (admittedly, I think Yates > Flacco at this point although Flacco has a fair bit of experience against Belichick).

He's too much of a beast to be anyone's Robin

One of the only things I liked fro Nantz tonight. He chuckled when Gronk called Hernandez a beast, and said, “He’s not the only one”.

what is wrong with people?

If he passes it’s classless, if we run for a first down it’s classless, if he punts it’s classless. Ridiculous. I guess we should have given the Broncos the ball at the one, that’s the only classy thing to do.

They’re not real football fans. I’m not a huge football history buff, but I think teams used to do it often enough.

It's a smart play.

Pin ’em deep, get some practice on an obscure play you might need, etc.

Kept the injuries to a minimum

With an extra day to rest for next week’s game, they might be as healthy as they’ve been all year next week. Not including IR guys of course.

Underrated story

Solder, Hernandez, Gronkowski, Spikes were stars tonight. McCourty looked good too, and of course, going further back, Mayo is Mayo. Draft picks finally producing for NE again.

Very

Knocked the ball away on that deep pass, jostled another one from the arms of a receiver.

He’s positive, which is huge given how terribly negative all our other second safeties have been

Members from MHR have been classy this week

If you go over there, I ask you to treat their members with the same respect you would treat Patriots fans here at Pats Pulpit. The mods over there are already going to have plenty of trouble on their hands with the Tebow trolls.

So, be respectful when you go there. If you’re not, you’ll be held accountable for your actions at Pats Pulpit at well.
