Ravens to use Pats blueprint against them.

If the Ravens decide to come out and just knock the snot out of our WRs and TEs on every catch - like Pats did to the Rams in that Super Bowl, that could spell trouble. I can see Bmore sitting in a zone in target practice mode. Don't know if we've played a more physical team this year. Ocho may have to give us something in the vertical game. Remaining teams left have no problem dishing out punishment. Thoughts?

Don't think it would matter.

Welker takes hits all day from LBs and doesn’t care. What HAS worked against him is knocking him off his route which throws off Tommy’s timing.

Do you really think hits bother Gronk? Please.

Herndo might be skiddish before the catch, but he’s fearless after it. Also, he’s not a receiver when running out of the backfield.

That leaves Branch, Edelman, Ocho, Underwood, and Slater. Hitting them MAY throw them off, but they are also 4th or better options. Do they have enough people to COVER them let alone HIT them.

People may look at the Pats as a finesse team, but they are more than willing to play smash mouth football if that’s the way the game goes.

The more you know, the more you know that you don't know.
Some people can learn from the mistakes of others, while some people need to pee on the electric fence themselves.
Belichick is looking for a new name for his boat: VI Rings sounds pretty good.

Great points

You are right – Gronk is a beast! And the only BIG hitters for the Ravens are Sugar Ray and I guess Suggs. Thanks for your thoughts on this

I know the Broncos aren't a good example,

but their defenders didn’t want any more of Gronkowski. The Redskins’ defense was tired of him too. I’m guessing the Patriots will be well-prepared that that’s the tactic the Ravens might use on them.

Keep the faith!

Not to mention they all don't always start out on the line of scrimmage.

And trips bunch formations can be tough to deal with…

I’ll take 11 players with heart on the field over 11 guys with just talent. Talent is fleeting, it goes away over time. Heart is what drives you to be better. To push yourself beyond what you think your capabilities are. To show us that when you strive, all things are possible.- SMP

Ocho is not going to give us anything in the vertical game

or any other aspect of the game for that matter. Maybe he will be able to contribute more next year after a full offseason with Brady, but I’m not getting my hopes up, and there is definitely no more hope left for him to contribute this year.

We only need 1 catch from him.

Maybe one gigantic, historic catch.

The point with any attempt to do a specific "thing" against Belichick

is that he makes an adjustment that uses your tactic against you. If a defense makes any type of “commitment” against the Patriots offense they adjust and punish the D. The reason they can do this is Brady and his ability to run the O. If you try and do “something” with an NFL defense you thus, “give something up.” We are lucky we have a HOF QB who knows how to take what the D is giving.

Ravens do not have a strong enough offense to respond to the Patriots offense. IMO

did u say sitting back in a zone?

that would be a welcome site…brady craps all over zone defenses. I have a feeling that its to the point, that there is nothing this man hasnt seen before. What the jets did to him last year was kinda a new wrinkle and look he hadnt seen before, but it was also poor execution. the reason the jets were able to throw something new at him was because they were only about 8 weeks into this new offensive system(post moss era) of theirs. however people have been trying different things against this offense all year, n by week nine it just seemed brady had an answer for all of it. plus we have an extra brain in mcdaniels back there so i think the adjustments will come quickly and ferociously. last year it was just bad timing, where defenses had enough tape to come up with a good game plan on our offense yet we didnt have enough time to see the different things theydve come up with. but this year, well just feels like the timing is just right.

This.

Brady tears apart zone. Have to physical in man coverage.

by Richard Hill on Jan 16, 2012 11:23 PM EST up reply actions

That's what worries me

If not a zone where they wait to tee off on us, then a tight man- to- man a la the Jets last year in the playoffs against us.

They don’t nearly have the same cover guys/secondary the Jets do. They don’t have anyone who can lock down Welker one on one.

Webb's no slouch

He’s not Revis, but he’s up there. I anticipate him being assigned to Welker most of the day.

true indeed

to go along with that, it didn’t look like the Ravens had much of a pass rush against the Texans.

Being physical has worked at times against Welker

But I’m really not too sure how well it would work against the TEs. If you’re bodying him, Gronk can just box you out to give TB a target. Hernandez is strong enough and fast enough that I could see him having a quick physical exchange before breaking free and leaving the defender in the dust. As for Welker, he needs to work hard to get free from a strong jam at the line, but if you’re doing it on a regular basis they’ve shown in a couple games this year that they’re not afraid to let him just sprint down the field and catch it deep down the seam now and then.

Trying to throw off Brady’s timing by getting physical with receivers is definitely one part of the equation when it comes to stopping the Pats offense. But if you do it all the time, I can’t help but think you’ll eventually get burned.

see, thats the thing

the whole physicality element that the Ravens bring. Gives me flashbacks of what the Jets did to us last year — suffocating man to man D.

by 4admen on Jan 17, 2012 11:25 AM EST up reply actions

So, it comes down to execution

Pats receivers will have to find a way to get open

Keep the faith!

we'll see if they use

the 3 receiver bunch, jets couldn’t man up to that
