Patriots vs. Ravens: Vollmer, Ochocinco, Ridley Inactive for Pats

The Patriots have announced their inactives for the 2011 AFC Championship against the Baltimore Ravens:
Ryan Mallett, QB
Shane Vereen, RB
Stevan Ridley, RB
Chad Ochocinco, WR
Donald Thomas, OL
Gary Guyton, LB
Thoughts:
- The big surprise here is Stevan Ridley being inactive. He's been active and played in every single game this year. He's had fumbles the past two weeks, and the coaching staff likely wanted to play it safe with BenJarvus Green-Ellis as the team's primary back. Kevin Faulk, who didn't play a snap on offense last week (played on special teams only), will likely see an increase in snaps.
- Chad Ochocinco traveled to Florida over the weekend to attend to family issues, as his father passed away earlier in the week. I'm not sure if he made it back in time, but the decision to keep Ocho inactive likely has to do with the family issues. We wish him the best, and hopefully he will be back for the Super Bowl if the Patriots win this afternoon.
- Sebastian Vollmer has been getting closer to returning to the field, but is once again being held inactive as a game-time decision. Rookie Nate Solder will once again start in his place.
- The rest of the Patriots' inactives were healthy scratches. Gary Guyton has really fallen down the depth chart, and is a healthy scratch for the second straight week.
- Nate Jones (DB) and Ron Brace (DL) were both healthy scratches last week against the Broncos, but will suit up this afternoon against the Ravens. Brace could see significant action at defensive end in the 3-4.

Man i know ridley was fumbling but he gave us more than 2 yards per carry kevin Faulk is all but done

Ask the Houston Texans if they’d like Kevin Faulk catching punts for them.
Because if they did, they’d likely be the ones playing the Patriots today.

How about pass protection for Brady?
He picks up blitzes better than any of the other RB’s on the roster.

Not sure that Nate Jones brings more value than Stevan Ridley
Unless Jones has suddenly passed Moore, Molden, and Edelman on the depth chart
After another fumble I didn't expect them to use him even if he was active
I just assume that since they were going to essentially sit him they figured they had enough RBs with Polite, Faulk, Woody and BJGE. The only thing that would take the ball out of woody or LawFirm’s hands at this point is probably an injury. Fumbles are not ok.
With Ocho out
Edelman would be likely to get more snaps on offense. Cuts down on the amount he can play defense. (Unless you’d like him to go 90 snaps or so.)

Think Underwood gets the snaps.
More of a true outside-the-numbers WR like Ocho/Branch.

I would have loved to see him ou there
but the Ravens are the best in the league at causing fumbles, so maybe that factored into the decision.

Both Vereen and Ridley being out
is huge. That means it’s BJGE/Woodhead/Faulk/Hernandez, and that’s it for rushers.

What are the rules?
The WNBA is all about the game of basketball. No overblown hype, no despicable personalities, no outrageous amounts of money, no mugging halftime analysts, and no poisonous animosities. Just the finesse and effort of basketball. If that isn't interesting to people, then people just aren't interested in basketball.
