This team lacks the heart. The defense is just awful, the secondary in particular. I mean I'd rather take the 2010 defense over this one. At least we had decent safety play, and one guy that could cover. Seattle's passing offense is one of the weakest in the NFL's and they just lit us up. No one made plays when it mattered. Arrington, Dennard, Dowling, Moore, Wilson, Chung, McCourty this is what makes up a bad secondary. All youth, inexperience, and a mix of unfulfilled potential and plain old lack of talent. Everyone got beat when they were targeted if the throw was even somewhat accurate. Dennard, Arirngton, McCourty, Moore, Wilson none of them held up in the end.
And this great offense, with this great running game and these unstoppable TEs was held to 6 pts in a half of football after scoring 17 in the first. And couldn't even get a first down in it's last two drives. It boggles my mind how some fans still prefer this offense over 07 which could actually close out games and come from behind. This is all you need to know when you compare this team (which is currently .500 heading into week 7) to the 07 team. When we played the #1 defense in 07 (which also had an offense that was 9th in scoring) we blew them out 34 to 13. When we played the #1 defense this year (which also had an offense that was 28th in scoring) we lost 24 to 23. The offense scored 11 less pts and the defense allowed 11 more on a significantly weaker team. Russell FREAKIN WILSON.
Could we have won this game yes, did we outplay the Seahawks? Certainly not, the defense got abused through the air, the offense got shut down in the second half, Brady had two ints, but probably should of had 4 or 5. We got outplayed. We had a great amount of breaks in this game. Dropped picks, great protection from a fierce rush, lame duck throws by Wilson, fumbles and we still lost. This is the 2nd time in a row we lost to a good team on the road, gave up a two score lead, and the offense failed to score more than a FG in the 4th quarter. The 2nd time in facing what 3 good teams? We all most collapsed vs Denver, but thankfully the Broncos, specifically Willis McGahee gave us the game. That just aint going to cut it. I can't see this team winning a SB, I just can't. It's reminiscent of the 09 team how we can't close out games either with offense or defense. It's one thing if we lost this game b/c of dumb mistakes like fumbles, drops or Seattle wasn't a good team and we just overlooked them, but we just got flat out beat. I can't say that if we played this team again we wouldn't lose.
This saddest thing about this lose is, it's essentially the same script we have always seen after all our defensive players left after 07. You get a good defense and a QB that can make some throws down the stretch you will outplay the patriots most of the time. This is looking like a 12-4 team 11-5 at worst, but I do not see it beating the teams it has to to win a championship.
