Look way too far ahead? No way!
Assuming the Pats keep the top-3 together, LB will not be a need. TE will not be a need. QB will not be a need. RB does not look like a need. Assuming Sebastien Vollmer is retained OT won't be a need. If Devin McCourty stays and thrives at FS then S will be not be a need.(even if Chung is allowed to walk) So what are the needs?
CB could be a big time need. Let's say McCourty stays at CB. Behind him we would be relying on retaining Aqib Talib(FA after the year, and he still needs to show us something here) and Alfonzo Dennard(who's trial for assaulting a cop is in February). Does anyone really think Kyle Arrington is going to be retained, or that Sterling Moore is going to come back off the PS and thrive? Dare I ask your thoughts on Ras-ir Dowling? I may be high on Marquice Cole but I got to see more snaps from him. Either way, especially if McCourty goes to FS, CB could be a need. Maybe the Pats go for BPA and work McCourty around that. Either way, as it comes to DB, since the Pats won't pick in the top-20 we can safely assume the Pats will not be in a position to draft DeMarcus Milliner. Have any other CBs stood out to you as a Pats prospect? Who do you like as a FS?
Perhaps the biggest need is going to be WR. Wes Welker's contract situation is one thing. Another is that both he and Brandon Lloyd are getting further and further from 30. Right now, their backups are Julian Edelman(one of my least favorite Pats....) and Deion Branch who's already feeling the effect of age. The Pats need to get more young talent here. It's amazing that they have the #1 Offense when Deion Branch plays as much as he does. Who do you like?
DE/OLB. Is Rob Ninkovich going to continue having the kind of season that could cement he #2 DE/OLB spot to him? What if he doesn't? What if there's an injury at LB and he's got to go back there? Perhaps most important, I still can't tell you who the best 3rd DE/OLB(situational pass-rusher, like Mark Anderson 2011 before Andre Carter went down). Pats need to give Chandler Jones some help. I doubt Cunningham/Scott/Bequette will thrive much in the 2nd half of the season. Who you like?
NT/DT, DT/DE. Vince Wilfork is on the wrong side of 30. Kyle Love is a nice player, but successful DLines have some depth. M. Pryor still hasn't been activated, Ron Brace still isn't learning, and Brandon Deaderick isn't particularly talented. Got any interior-DLine favorites or dark horses?
OC/OG. I was high on Ryan Wendell since seeing flashes of excellence last year, but I got to see if he can make it last. I want to see him do better in pass-protection. Then there's Logan Mankins and his contract. I could see Mankins becoming trade-bait as he hasn't been consistent for awhile now. Donald Thomas doesn't look bad at LG and costs millions less. Then at RG, we're rolling with Dan Connolly who's backed-up by Marcus Cannon who can also swing out to RT. The Pats could use depth in the interior of the OLine. Got any favorites amongst the fat boys?
