New England's star tight end will give it a shot in practice this week in preparations for the 49ers.

The New England Patriots and their fans got some good news on Wednesday, with word coming out that tight end Rob Gronkowski is going to make an effort to practice this week, according to Shalise Manza Young.

Gronkowski has been out since Nov. 19 when he broke his forearm against the Indianapolis Colts late in the fourth quarter. Gronkowski injured the arm while trying to help block for an extra point attempt.

It's unknown whether there is any possibility Gronkowski could actually play on Sunday night against the San Francisco 49ers. Considering the severity of the injury, it would seem unlikely the hulking youngster would be able to play so soon.

Aaron Hernandez has been doing a very nice job replacing Gronkowski as the first tight end option in his absence. In fact, Hernandez just recorded his first multi-touchdown game since his rookie year on Monday night against theHouston Texans.

This stoy originally appeared at SB Nation.
