Rob Gronkowski Returns to Practice with "Limited" Participation

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has taken the field for the first time since the AFC Championship. The Patriots' most recent practice participation report lists the All-Pro tight end as a "limited" participant.

While reports have been circulating for the past week and a half that Gronkowski will indeed play in Super Bowl XLVI, this is the first tangible evidence that Gronkowski's condition is indeed improving. All indications are that Gronkowski will take the field for Super Bowl XLVI. While we can still sit back and debate his effectiveness, debating whether or not he actually plays, at this point, seems pointless.

The rest of the Patriots participation report remained constant, with no other players missing practice. Dane Fletcher, Pat Chung, Kyle Love, Logan Mankins, Brandon Spikes, Wes Welker were part of a group of ten players listed as "limited" in practice. Deion Branch, Dan Connolly, Matt Light, Matt Slater, and James Ihedigbo were all listed as having fully participated in practice despite illness or injury.

Hmm

I heard that he was expected to prac, but didn’t. So he really did?

That’s a great sign. : )

Go Pats. Celtics. Red Sox. Bruins.
Brady. Pierce. Thomas. How you doing?

he "did a few things"

according to Belichick. That answer your question? Haha. Fitzy just refers to Gronk’s ankle as the Gronkle.

Keep the faith!

Awesome

I didn’t expect him to be out there until Friday, but tomorrow is really the test. If he responds well, and doesn’t feel too sore or hurt to continue a bit tomorrow, then we are looking pretty good.

THE TRUTH:

This morning, Gronk woke up, told his ankle to sort itself the f**k out. Or else.
Ankle healed itself.

Seems almost everyone interviewed on the NFL channel is picking the NYG although Patriots are oddly 3 point favorites in Las Vegas.

I’m expecting Gronk to be limited. Not going to be concerned about his ankle anymore. Patriots will have to try to win game without him receiving. Anything Gronk does will be a bonus. NYG are going to target him to get him out of the game.

How well the Patriots 5 OL players defends against the Giants front four and how well Patriots minimize the long yardage on the passes are the key factors. Patriots need to make solid tackles. Maybe Ridley plays and can burn the NYG’s.

Some more facts:
We are going to run on them. 4 yards and a cloud of dust. Keep rushing after 20 consecutive run plays, JPP.
We are going to have some insane Belichick-meets-Lebeau zone-blitz-man-water-dog defence out there. Something BB has been SAVING UP

I’d try to get the run game going also. That would neutralize the pass rush some.

Giants OL isn’t exactly stellar so Patriots better get some push on that line.

by prioris on Feb 2, 2012 10:44 PM EST up reply actions

I’d actually overplay the run. I think we can move their line, and move it good. Make them go heavy.

4 yards and a cloud of pulverized rubber.

Just doesn’t have the same ring to it.

OUTLOOK

This is a strange game to pick. The math clearly favors the Patriots. Our various “pick this game” methods generally look at things longer-term, using weighted DVOA, and the Patriots come out significantly better than the Giants if you look at any period longer than just the last five weeks. That’s why, for example, the Patriots are favored in the playoff odds report. Las Vegas bookmakers, likely using methods similar to ours, installed the Patriots as three-point favorites. It’s moved to -2.5 at some sports books, but no further. And yet, the Giants are ridiculously overconfident, the majority of the betting public (around 65 percent) has put money on the Giants, and nearly every prognosticator out there is picking the Giants to win this game.

It’s a close call, but I’m afraid I lean that way as well.

looks pretty hopeless for the patriots

Adding to my point below

In ‘07 Vegas took about 93 million in bets for the Super Bowl. They only had to pay out around 2.5million. They know what’s up.

Im not saying I'm better connected than football outsiders,but...

Vegas doesn’t lose money. They don’t lay cupcake lines without an angle either. I’ve seen as high as 75% of the public is in on the Giants. Point is, Vegas is right more often than not and they’re set to take a bath if the Pats lose. The pros are liking the Pats. That’s where my money will be.

Hopeless?

Football outsiders say it’s a close call and make the Giants a slight favorite and you think it’s hopeless? You are kidding right?

With the whole Gronkle story,

the punditrty picking the Giants,
Brady’s bad performance against the Ravens in the AFCCG,
the week 9 meetup vs.the Giants,
and the OTHER Manning story,
I wonder if the Giants are not focused enough heading into the Super Bowl. They’re talking a lot and sound way too confident.

It is what it is
