Like many of you, watching the Pats lose once again to the Giants in the Superbowl basically ripped my heart out. Watching what may have been Brady's best shot for that fourth ring slip out of welkers hands killed me. It took me weeks before i could even begin to think about football again, but alas, im a true diehard, and am back to looking at profootballtalk every five minutes.
When it comes to why we lost that game, i can't help but think of how unfortunate it was the Gronk sprained his ankle, i mean really, what are the chances! However, i do believe that all that talk of not being able to stretch the field vertically actually has some merit. We need a legit WR, who is fast, tall, and athletic. Someone to keep safeties honest. The Giants secondary was medicore at best, and yet twice, we were unable to score more than twenty on them. Mostly because of a defense that the NFL has come to realize can actually stop the PATS with a twin tight end formation. Mainly, stacking the box with a saftey, Playing more Dime package, overloading the passing lanes, and creating pressure with 4-5 D-linemen. Now i realize that only a handful of teams can actually accomplish this with the D-Lines, but it is those teams who are beating us. Yes defense is a weakness, and for whatever reason the Hoodie refuses to sign a vetern safety every season since Rodney left. But we need just one piece on Offense to make us virtually unstoppable, a dynamic, fast, and tall WR to stretch the field. We have but 2-3 yrs left of a window to finally put to rest the demons which we will all live with if Belicheck and Brady cannot close out their careers with one more title. WIth the talent on this team already, i just hope that Kraft, Belicheck realize this opportunity and go get what we need to put us over the top. Whether that be Lloyd, Wayne, Wallace, Jackson, Bowe, etc. Drafting a WR will not accomplish what we need within a 2-3 yr window. We need to make a splash now, we have cap room, we have the pieces, lets make it happen.
