OTA - Off-Topic Activities #16: Where Peyton is our favorite Manning

Welcome one and all to the OTA - Off-Topic Activities or Open To Anything or Oughtta Talk Alot or Open Thread All!. The best place to not discuss football at Pats Pulpit.

This is a thread for anyone who would like to enjoy some pleasant conversation that may or may not be football related. This is a place where some of us can get to know each other a little bit better, and on a slightly different level than other places on the site. A thread that may contain at times humorous dialogue, quotes, pictures, or anything else that might entertain. Remember to have a good time! But also please remember to keep it somewhat clean. We'd prefer innuendo over gory details.

Rules

All the rules are based on this: Have fun, but don't keep other people from having fun.

a) Don't troll each other, or attack other members. You learned this in kindergarten.

b) If a picture is NSFW (Not Safe For Work), do not post it as a picture. Instead post it as a link.

c) Be kind to newbies, and help them fit in. Remember to share your crayons.

d) If someone asks you nicely to steer clear of a topic, find something else to talk about.

e) Any and all other SBN and PatsPulpit rules apply. In other words, this ain't Vegas.

Rec this thread, so it stays atop the most rec'd fanposts. Unrec it when another thread is made.

Star-divide

Below is a guide to certain slang, lingo, nicknames, or any kind of term that we use here at the Pulpit.

Format: Term – Definition/ Explanation [Creator of term/First to use]

Citgo – a place where irrelevant people especially in sports will be/ are working.
examples:
What is HC Mangini/a doing now?-Working @ the citgo

DDR- Moniker for Lawrence Maroney which describes his tendency to "dance" at the line of scrimmage, in comparison to the style in which players dance of the arcade game "Dance Dance Revolution" (AtomicDawg)
Fredo/Mangina - Nicknames for ex-Pats assistant coach Eric Mangini (creator/first to use term unknown)
Toy Story/Woody/Buzz – Nicknames for RB Danny Woodhead (Richard Hill)
The Executioner- Nickname for Devin McCourty (Comedic.Sans)
Steal This Thread/Jack A Thread – (SlotMachinePlayer/NinjaZX6R) A predecessor of this thread.

Da Gronk - Dan Gronkowski
Herndo/A-Hern/H-Bomb – Nicknames for TE Aaron Hernandez
Law Firm/Benny– Nickname for RB BenJarvis Green-Ellis; derived for the many combined names he has, which is similar to any law firm made up of 3 or more people
Seabass – Nickname for RT Sebastian Vollmer
Space Emperor of Space – Nickname for P Zoltan Mesko
Smurfs — Nickname for the Patriots’ collection of undersized position players (primarily Branch, Woodhead, and Welker, but may also include Faulk and Edelman) -Created by Comedic Sans

BoB / BooB-Bill O' Brien - Pats offensive Coordinator- Bob; When He is on fire; BooB when He is just sucks.

4s

It started out having a hard time finding and canceling out the un-reads, but then it got to the point where it would not even load the unreads.

I watch more baseball than football...

Although that may have to do with the sheer amount of it on TV (and the fact that all 162 Phillies games are televised here). I have come to love baseball as much if not more than I love football. (It helps that there is not a ton of overlap between the two seasons, so I can follow both pretty easily.

I don't like him, and I don't care about the improvement in his skills.

To me, a QB who throws it up, closing his eyes, and waits for his receivers to save him, should not be considered as elite.

There’s nothing I like more than seeing his jersey full of dirt, and him staring at his receivers, like “I can’t believe you didn’t make a play on that ball. I mean, you could have extended your arms for five more yards, and pull this in, right?”

I don’t hate anybody in the NFL, but Eli is damn close to that.

Louis CK on boredom being the hardest part of raising kids:
There are 50 books about Clifford the Big Red Dog. 50 Books. There are 7 books about Narnia. That cover the birth and death of a nation, mice with swords and a lion who’s a god. They did it in 7 books. 50 books about Clifford the Big Red Dog, and they all tell the exact same story, “Look how big this dog is!” That’s it, that’s it. “Here’s how big he was at the firehouse!” “Here’s how big he was at Thanksgiving!” Who gives a shit! You just drew him that big! -LouisCK

There are other fouls/penalties

Such as hooking, interference, tripping, holding, slashing, spearing, boarding, cross checking and roughing.

Most of these will get you 2 minutes in the box. Severe ones get you at least 5 mins, some can be 10+ and in some extreme cases you can have multiple penalties added together, but that is very rare.

And unfortunately that’s all that matters.

With “if” and “but”, you could put Paris in a bottle, according to the French saying.

If Gronk was healthy. If Brady wasn’t called for intentional grounding in the end zone. If Brady didn’t throw the deep pass. If the D wasn’t called for 12 men on the field, negating a turnover. If the G-men had a few less lucky bounces…

You’re right, the Giants aren’t that good. But they were better. Sigh.

It’s ok, though. Brady will be pissed and unleash the Gronk onto the NFL next year. I feel sorry for our future opponents.

Assorted thoughts

You can’t copy the Giants recipe for success, because they DON’T HAVE ONE. Their defense is based around a pass rush, but the pass rush was there in the SB, so clearly that doesn’t matter. They have a decent QB, but theres at least 3-4 better QBs in the game right now.

If anything, its their receivers. I like Welker and all, but last year didn’t he lead the league in drops? That seems to have been what made the difference – Welker couldn’t catch a slightly hard pass, Manningham caught a really hard pass.

Now with THAT said, there are better receivers out there. There is nothing the Giants do special, nothing they’re best in the league at. Perhaps more then anything they’re lucky Gronk wasn’t 100%.

And Gronk and Light, stop partying. You’re great and all, but if you can go party and act like nothing happened after that you’re not emotionally invested enough in the game.

And

this might be a little late, but Gisele is 100% right. The reason coaches, players etc can’t swear, throw snow at, or act aggressively toward fans is because we fans pay them millions of dollars to play a game. Gisele, on the other hand, is not getting payed at all, and has no contract/connection with the NFL. Shes no different then you or I – and when a Giant fan flames me, I’m sure gunna flame back.
