WR Underwood Doesn't Want to be a "Distraction," Wishes Patriots "Nothing but the Best"

Yesterday, when news broke that the Patriots had released wide receiver Tiquan Underwood, you couldn't help but feel for the guy. To get cut the night before the biggest game of your life? That's got to be tough. However, Underwood is taking it in stride. This morning, he texted ESPN's Ed Werder, and kept it classy:

"I don't want to be a distraction to the game or the New England Patriots.....i will say this, The New England Patriots are a GREAT Organization. I wish them nothing but the best today. This season has been dedicated to Myra Kraft (MHK) Mr Kraft's wife....w/ that being said i hope they pull out the victory in honor of her & because the coaches & players have worked so hard this season for the opportunity to play in Super Bowl 46. Go Pats!!!! #PatsNation

Multiple media outlets are reporting that Underwood's release had nothing to do with discipline and that the Patriots intend to bring him back to the team next season. Still, you've got to hope that Robert Kraft saves a seat for him in the luxury box.

ESPN's Adam Schefter also reported, via Twitter, that Underwood is eligible for his Super Bowl bonus, and championship ring if the Patriots are to win.

True class act.

Poor guy, he prepared the entire week for this only to be let go the day before. I doubt he would have made a big impact, but you have to feel terrible for the guy.

Definitely...

On a side note, what did you do (other than being a Pats fan) to get banned from Gang Green Nation?

Im a getting so tired of the Pats organization being ridiculed for this move.

Lets get this party started! He is still part of the team just like all the guys on the practice squad.

My thought:

6 targets, 3 receptions, 30 yards.

It’s not like he was really a key player.

Hopefully he’ll be around for the game, though.

to me, this is all about gronk

i think Silvestro takes his spot on special teams. also, he adds some depth on the DL for supposedly a conditioning game. tiquan would have been inactive or maybe played a handful of snaps. good move.

This game...

could come down to one play. There’s no room for sentiment. Tiquan’s a class act, and he gets it.

This boosts Underwood’s reputation as well. Could be worth $$ in his next contract negotiations

I hope we keep him next year.

Pedey: Dear Playstation, So MLB the Show '09 says I can't hit the high and inside, huh? That's ridiculous, ask Ramon.
Ramon: Yeah, he can hit it. In fact, if I were to die today and went to some weird...(grabs script) some weird limbo afterlife, where I can gaze at one thing for eternity. Dustin's swing, or my daggers? (DAUGHTERS!) daughter's first steps, I would choose that swing.
Lazer Show: I can hit that pitch!
