According to latest ESPN reports, Peyton is most definitely headed to Denver. This sets up a late-season SNF showdown between Peyton and Tom for one more year (and maybe more)
Thoughts on the Move: I think it's not Peyton's best shot. The Broncos were an 8-8 team with a lot of issues. The question is: Are they benefits of Tebow's late-game comebacks? Or would they have won more with Peyton at the helm. My personal view is that Peyton turns the team into the division king and a playoff contender. But a Super Bowl? No way.
There are large question marks on the D - key contributors have left, Champ Bailey and Dawkins are both very old, Goodman and a few others are below average, and the front seven is still developing. Brady tore up the defense, breaking all sorts of records. There is no evidence Denver is going to be much better than last year.
The offense lacks depth: There isn't a star TE on the roster, the O-Line is patchwork and not very strong (especially on the blind side), and the WR depth is not very good. D.T., Decker, and who? Royal is gone. Most of the WR FAs are gone so it's up to the Broncos to draft wisely.
Thoughts on Tebow: To me, this was a smart move for the Broncos, but an awful move considering Tebow. Tebow isn't just a quarterback, he's the guy who single-handedly brought the Broncos from 1-4 to the divisional round of the playoffs. I don't care what people say - the guy took a team which was discussing which pick to get in the draft to how they could get to the SB. People BELIEVED in Tebow. I'm going to ignore his cultural appeal for now.
Now, he's been shivved by Elway and Fox for a 35 year old QB with a fused neck who has missed one entire season of football. Tebow is very humble and would probably accept the backup role, but this creates too much tension. I expect Peyton to have requested they trade Tebow as a condition.
John Clayton has reported that the Patriots have already held talks with the Broncos about getting Tebow. McDaniels is the O Coordinator. So guys, what position could Tebow play. How would the Patriots use him? I'm not very keen on him backing up Brady. Maybe as a goal-line weapon?
UPDATE: Schefter reports that 4 teams are currently interested: the Green Bay Packers, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Miami Dolphins, and the New York Jets(?). No Patriots. Hopefully, that'll put the rumors to rest. (OR NOT).
