According to a report from Football Scoop, the New England Patriots have hired former NFL quarterback Chris Simms, son of legendary Giants quarterback Phil Simms, to their team coaching staff. It is unclear as to what role Simms will serve in with the Patriots.
This move comes as a bit of a surprise, taking that Simms never played for the Patriots and generally wasn't highly successful in the NFL. If I'm gonna guess, he's been hired on as a video coordinator, or something like that.
After be selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the third round of the 2004 NFL Draft out of the University of Tennessee, Simms' career never really took off. Simms spent three years with the Bucs, before joining the Tennessee Titans in 2008. Simms last played in the NFL in 2009 with the Denver Broncos. Simms totaled 3,117 passing yards in his three year career and had a single playoff appearance in his career.
