According to Tony Pauline, the Patriots have tried out former basketball player Les Brown. Brown is projected to be a potential tight end in the mold of the New Orleans Saints' Jimmy Graham.
Unfortunately, Googling Les Brown brings up pages about a motivational speaker, so I had to dig deep to find information about Mr. Brown. While Jimmy Graham peaked averaging 6.0 points/game at Miami, Brown topped out at 2.4 points/game for the Frontier Conference's Westminster College. Needless to say, Graham was a better basketball player than Brown.
Westminster's roster page has Brown standing at 6-5, but he worked out at BYU's Pro Day and measured 6-4, 238 lbs. He also ran a 4.44 40 yard dash, had a 39 inch vertical jump, and a 10-3 broad jump. He also "did not struggle catching the ball." That would have put him on par as one of the top three most athletic tight ends in the 2011 draft and the most athletic in this 2012 draft.
Brown has an outside shot for even basic consideration, but could possibly warrant a practice squad position as the Patriots look for depth in case of an Aaron Hernandez injury.
