Like their receivers, most USC QB's are overrated due to the exceptional talent surrounding them. When you physical specimens on both sides of the ball, the QB's are allowed a little more room for error. As a result, you have someone like Mark Sanchez being drafted 4th overall. And I can tell you, I'm a USC fan and I NEVER thought Sanchez ready for the NFL. In many ways, I'm happy the Jets drafted him.
But Matt Barkley is different, not because he stayed his senior year. It's because of his attitude which only reinforced in the article.
I've watched USC football every year, since Matt Leinart. I've see Matt Drama - Leinart /Cassel, John David Booty, Mark Sanchez & Matt Barkley. Out of all them, Barkley is the best. Initially, I was against Barkley starting as a true freshman (no redshirt) and I've watched myself become more wrong with every game. I've watched him grow & out-perform Andrew Luck when the Trojans faced Stanford.
I'd put money down that this kid is drafted 1st overall next year.
The Patriots have no shot of drafting him but he's the type of kid that understands the Patriots way. He's a good kid and I wish more players acted like him.
